No one had the time to register what happened. Wasting no time. Ethan rushed with the injured Petal in his hands towards the underground hospital. He had papered the room to be ready to receive any emergency case.

The doctors down there were on alert. They moved quickly once they received the injured patient. Trying to save her while Ethan stood there watching with hollow eyes. His white suit shirt was covered with Petal blood, His hands too.

Ethan stood there watching. Only watching. He didn’t speak and didn’t allow anyone to enter. As a doctor. He knew that the injury was critical and she might not come out of it. She might enter a come state which she might never wake up from. Two shots. One in the head. The other was near the heart.

The more he thought about the outcomes. The possibilities and the results. The more he felt a hole of darkness grow in his chest. that only she was able to make it grow smaller. Unbearable tightness as if he was suffocating.

"Petal. Don’t leave me." He whispered to her but no one was able to hear it.

Ethan’s eyes never left her. Watching as the doctors tried to save her. Her beautiful dress was sucked with her blood. She laid limp on the bed. The doctors started to prepare her for emergency surgery. Her heart rate beating was weak. Barely breathing. Barely alive.

Walking towards her. Ethan bent down kissing her forehead and then her lips. "Be strong. For both of us." He whispered in her ear kissing her cheek before he stepped away allowing the doctors to do their work.

Outside the underground hospital.

Jacob sat far away from anyone. Watching as the Willsons family wept and cried over the person that he was supposed to protect. But he failed. He broke the promise that he made to Olivia. Now she was in there. Between life and death.

"Don’t try. Ethan isn’t allowing anyone to enter." Issac said. Stopping Noah.

"Why is he the only one allowed to stay there?" Noah asked through gritted teeth.

"Calm down Noah. First, he’s a doctor. So he has the right more than anyone to be in there. Secondly, He’s her fiance. I hope it’s clear to you know." Isaac replied, trying to keep his voice down and his self-control in check.

Hearing this. Noah’s eyes widened. "Her fiance. But how? She never told me." Noah asked not believing.

"They got engaged in secret. And to answer your question. I think she isn’t obligated to tell you. Now please be quiet or leave." Issac replied before he walked away leaving Noah standing there.

Hours passed and nothing happened. Neither Ethan nor the doctors came out of there. It was past midnight. Everyone was both emotionally and physically exhausted.

After what seemed forever. The doors finally opened and a doctor came out. It was Lana who stood up first followed by Alice and Issac and Jacob.

"Is she alive?" Lana asked in her voice cracked towards the end.

The doctor looked at her with a sad look. "She’s alive. But unfortunately. She entered a coma. We can only wait. There’s nothing that we can do for her now. May God be with you in these tough times." The doctor said, patting Lana’s shoulder before he left.

Jacob’s hands turned into fists. He turned to control his emotions but he couldn’t. Hitting his knuckles against the wall. He cursed under his breath for failing to protect her.

"Oh God, have mercy on us." Lana muttered under her breath knowing what’s coming next. Tears rolled down from her eyes as she entered the room where Petal was.

Petal was put in the ICU. surrendered by the transparent glass to keep the environment around her disinfected. Ethan was standing in front of the glass. Staring at Petal who was laying on the bed. Machines connected to her body. Long tubes were put in her mouth to help her breathe. This could only mean that her body wasn’t working on its own and was supported by the life-supporting machines.

Walking closer to Ethan. Lana reached for his hand that was still covered with Petal blood.

"A bullet entered the skull bone and the brain and came out. The second bullet damaged the left side of the heart. She lost too much blood. A normal person could survive this. But Petal’s body was born weak. Her vital organs are collapsing one after the other. Meaning her survival chance is only five percent. Whoever did this is professional and wanted me to watch her die slowly." Ethan spoke in a cold tone. Void of emotions.

"With the right kind of care. There’s a chance for her to survive. She needs time to heal and you need time to put your cards in order." Lana said as she turned his face to look at her.

For the first time In a long time. She saw Ethan’s eyes full of tears. Pulling him into her arms. She wrapped her arms around him." It’s alright Ethan. You can cry."Lana whispered in his ear as she rubbed his back.

And that’s all that he needed. A gentle voice and a warm embrace burst out the bottled feelings inside him. The quiet room was suddenly filled with the sound of heartbroken men crises, Yes. The emotionless Ethan Wilson was crying. Any man would see the sight of his beloved being shot. Dying in his arms.

It seems that happiness wasn’t something that it’s meant for him in this lifetime. A dark path awaited him now that the light in his life had gone.
