Chapter 670: Chapter 670 - A Day in the Life of a Worker Bee (Part 2)

After that meeting, I couldn’t even leave one step away from Clarence since he kept on following me around while holding my hand. I went to the kitchen to teach the staff a few recipes using the edibles I bought in since I was very bored.

Right after the cooking lessons, just when I was leaving the kitchen area, I was welcomed by the three people living in the pharmacy hut. They were holding a book each on their hands. They looked like they have been waiting nervously in the dining hall all this time.

When they saw me come out, they totally ignored Clarence and went straight in front of me. They started talking at the same time, asking questions about herbs, alchemy processes and some contents in the book that they wanted to clarify. I lifted my other hand to signify for them to stop talking and follow me.

I walked out of the dining hall and up to my office at the hidden second floor of the temple. I was like a mother duckling with four grown ducklings in tow. I only stopped walking when we were about to enter the office and research laboratory room that was made especially for me.

When I turned around, there are five ducklings- I mean men. I do not know when the ex-blind guy joined the entourage but he sneaked in along the way. He looked at me innocently as if he was meant to be there all along while I looked at him expressionlessly as if I did not care if he was there or not. I do not owe him anything, you know?

I ushered them all inside the office and they all took their own respective seats around a low table in the middle of the room. I sat at the head of the table and asked them to decide amongst themselves as to who is going to ask their questions first.

The decision was made quickly as the two "disciples" gave the chancr to their leader. The leader of the alchemy team named Rafe asked about the books that I placed inside the hut. I told them that they are useful books in making medicine, healing as well as plant identification and the plants’ respective properties. There was also a book on poisons and antidotes because medicine and poison always go hand-in-hand anyways.

The rest of the hour was used to answer the questions of the three, inlcuding apprentices named Jace and Eshmun, which covered different topics. They all took out what seems to be thick notepads and started taking down notes of the things that I was saying like some diligent students. I then told them to read the books and promised them that I will teach them to make some basic healing potions and antidotes when I have the time.

On the other hand, all this while, Clarence was staring at the ex-blind guy apprentice. The ex-blind though was staring at me, disregarding Clarence’s glare. I can literally feel the rising tension in the air through my skin.

I coughed awkwardly and asked the ex-blind guy casually, "What is your name? Do you have any questions for me?"

That’s when I realized that, I ASKED THE WRONG QUESTION and in the wrong setting too. I haven’t taken notice of him at first but it seems like he was still pretending to be blind all this time. As to why, I do not know but I just had to ask my stupid questions and now, he actually said the truth in front of these people.

I could never forget how he smirked and all the innocence on his face disappeared, "My name is Darth. You finally noticed my existence, saintess. As for my question, why did you heal my eyes?"

The question was like a bomb that was dropped in the room. I looked at Darth with an emotionless face. Clarence’s eyes widened then he slowly turned his head to look at me. The discussion between the three alchemists stopped as they repeatedly looked between Darth and me.

The first to recover was Rafe as he asked, "Did you just say your eyes are already healed? I remember you having that as a congenital disease. Your eyes just became worse and worse as you got older no matter how careful you were or whichever medicine you took, right? You finally became totally blind three months ago!"

Jace and Eshmun started nodding their head towards my direction, agreeing to what Rafe just said. I kept my calm and responded, "I do not know what you are talking about. The first time I saw you was inside that pharmacy hut together with these three."

I heard Darth’s mocking laugh as he said, "As a fellow alchemist, you should know that not only our eyes and mind are sharp but our sense of smell too. Though I could not see you at that time, I heard your voice and I remember your unique scent being blown by the air towards me."

Jace and Eshmun hurriedly stood up and they ran out of the door. The only thing I heard as they left was "The elders have to know about this! We will be back real quick!"

Just as they promised, they were back with the council members and the pope in under 5 minutes. My office became so crowded so suddenly that I am starting to feel my head aching.

The group of old men started asking questions all at the same time just like how Rafe, Jace and Eshmun was in the dining hall. Clarence voice boomed as he said, "Speak one at a time! My wife can’t understand anything you are saying! You are noisy like chirping birds!"

I couldn’t help but chuckle and kiss Clarence on the cheek which surprised him. It was funny as he is the only one brave enough to tell a council of elderly men and the pope of his own church to "shut up".

Since everything has already been said and done, I simply thought that I should just get it over with. I looked at the elders and nonchalantly said, "I told you that we needed miracles to get more believers so here is the first one. It has to start from our members first, right? Isn’t it for the best that he can now see?"

Clarence hearing that Darth is really healed looked happy all of a sudden. He exclaimed, "Wife! Do you know that he is the other candidate besides me for being the next pope? Since I am getting married to you and he is now healed up, he can now be the pope. I am giving way willingly!"
