Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 669 - A Day in the Life of a Worker Bee (Part 1)
Having my to-do list already made up in my mind, I started with the back mountains which I am most curious about. Sure, the church do not have miners but it doesn’t mean they can’t hire somebody to do it for them in the future.
After exiting the hidden path of the pharmacy hut, instead of going towards the main temple, I went the opposite way to go to the forest at the back mountain areas. There were a few types of trees so most likely there would be some edibles here since the soil on the mountain looked fertile and good for farming. There should be some plants that can be planted here like some leafy greens, root vegetables as well as herbs for cooking or even medicinal ones. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
I continued going up the mountain unhindered when I saw a few cave-like holes from afar. I also saw some fruit bearing trees, edible mushrooms, wild vegetables and herbs. Of course, I foraged all of them while mapping the first mountain. There seems to be three more mountains behind this one where the temple is located.
Since it is still just late in the morning and I have all day to do whatever I wanted, I decided to venture around the other mountains as well, foraging and hunting whatever I can to add to the food reserves of the church. I went inside every cave to check for its safety (if any wild animal is inhabiting it) and if I can find anything valuable inside of them like maybe gems or ores.
I also found a clear spring in one of the caves which seems to be flowing from an underground river. There is also a small waterfall in another one, a few coal and precious stone mines on the last one as well. As for the main mountain, I knly found an area where I can get some stones that I cut to pieces which will be perfect to use as steps for the path towards the foot of the mountain.
I had so much fun hunting, foraging, mapping and mining stuff that before I knew it, it was already in the middle of the afternoon. Well, dang, I missed lunch but at least they saved some food from their end. I wasn’t hungry though since there are a lot of cooked food in my inventory anyways. I was even munching while walking most of the time.
I always felt that I forgot something but since I couldn’t think of it, I just focused on my tasks. After exploring the mountains, I went towards the front of the temple this time via teleportation and started deciding where to put the stone path towards the foot of the mountain. It wasn’t that hard since I can practically see everything even at long distances.
It only took me about 2 -3 hours to lay the stone steps towards the bottom. Most of my time was spent roughing up the stones so they won’t be slippery when it rains, enchanting them with runes and digging out the soil a bit to bury the stones firmly. Laying the stone path itself took only minutes.
Just to be sure that the path is built to last, I used a spell to harden the soild around the stones so it was more like cemented in place than just buried. The runes I places for lumination for the evening and cleanliness to keep wild grass and mud away from them so they stay visible all the time.
For good measure, I used some sturdy type of wood and an equally sturdy type of vine to create a handrail on one side of the path to keep people from falling down especially the children and those that are advanced in age. I placed preservation magic on these so they will never rot or break apart. Lastly, I placed small barrier stones to ensure that anyone using the path won’t suddenly get attacked by wild animals.
I guess it was another overkill on my part. Sorry not sorry.
I finally finished all my tasks a little after four in the afternoon. That is the only time I remembered that I left Clarence sleeping in my room. I also never told anyone where I was going so they might be wondering if I escaped. I wanted to explore more but I did not have a choice but to return back to the temple. It is one teleportation spell away anyways.
When I reappeared right at the front part of the temple, I saw Clarence walking back and forth by the patio right outside the main door. When I started walking, he heard my feet scraping on the gravel covered ground as I walked and he looked at my direction immediately. He practically ran towards me in a hurry that in just a few steps, with him wearing flat home shoes and a robe, he tripped. I used a quick spell to lift him up before he hit the ground.
I continued walking towards the patio with him floating beside me. Once we are on the patio area, I finally placed him back on his feet. He looked like he was about to cry again as he jumped to hug me. Ugh, I never thought of him as this clingy!
I let him cling to me untill he was satisfied then once he let go of me, I started walking towards the door to enter the temple. He grabbed my hand and held it tight as if he was afraid that I will disappear on him again.
I went straight to the commissary area with Clarence in tow and did not stop for anyone. Once I am inside the food storage, I started dumping all the edibles I found from my short trip. Once I am done, I did the same thing back at the pharmacy hut at the back.
Once done with those two errands, I went around to look for the pope and the members of the council to ask for a quick meeting. We went back to the previous hall to have the discussion.
I immediately gave them a copy of the map of the back mountain area together with marked areas of the mines, spring water, waterfalls, caves and even certain areas where herbs are growing abundantly for future foraging teams. I also marked the areas with fruit bearing trees and edible mushrooms too. I made sure to make colored illustrations and specific descriptions for edible ones for good measure.
I also told them about my gift that should be revealing itself once the sun is down. They all looked at me in confusion but I simply smiled mysteriously.
