Chapter 217: Unprecedented Take Over (2)

The world suddenly turned peaceful, but underlying tension quickly spread. Strangely, the monsters also seemed to notice the oppressive atmosphere as they fell silent.

Everyone noticed that the gates also became stable. It was something that had never happened before. This made the majority uneasy, while some never cared.

Not far from the city, a unique behemoth stopped.

"Look at that. Did you do that, Guild Leader?" Rise stared at the central city, which was very much destroyed. He had only heard of the incident but had yet to witness the aftermath.

Kamille nodded. He stared at the city without a shred of guilt. His impression of what happened was actually not deep. He had only awakened, and most of his attention was on Rise.

If the humans had not stopped him, this tragedy would not have happened.

Rise glanced at him, and seeing Kamille seemed fine, he did not say anything more. He was open to such things, or it was more accurate to say that he was quite used to it.

The number of people that died at his hands was unimaginable. He was humanity’s traitor, after all.

Granted, it was not truly Rise controlling his body while performing such atrocities; he had witnessed it firsthand. Rise’s consciousness was awake most of the time.

He was already numbed to it. Even with the reset, the memories remained.

"They are already there," Rise remarked, changing the subject. "We only have 10 hours before the meeting."

Zarilan was communicating with him through the mirror artifact he gave to every subordinate he had. When it comes to unique treasure hoarding, no one comes close to Rise.

Kamille shifted his gaze from the city to Rise.

Although he was the one executing the crucial piece at the end. Kamille only saw himself as the support; everything was according to Rise’s plan and maybe also whim.

Rise could see through him at a glance. It would be a lie to say that he was not enjoying such attention and support.

"I initially wanted to enter the city now, but I changed my mind." Rise smiled, seeing Kamille’s questioning gaze. "Nothing is interesting there, anyway." Rise shrugged and leaned on Kamille’s shoulder.

He interlocked their fingers, and he hummed, feeling contented.

"Nothing’s more interesting than being with you."

Kamille tightened their interlocked fingers and landed a deep kiss on the crown of Rise’s head.

"Then, we’ll stay here," he whispered.

Kamille knew that Rise noticed it too. Since he awakened his noble traits, his aversion to humans had also intensified. He could barely tolerate it at the Lionheart Clan because Rise was with him.

It was also a small city. However, the central city had millions of people; Kamille had yet to control his instincts, and the tragedy might happen again if someone accidentally displeased him.

Nobles were inherently arrogant and saw themselves as superior beings, a common knowledge of the current world. It was a claim that no one could refute.

This was something he had to stabilize before returning to their world.

"Everyone is set and ready. I don’t need to check it." Rise liked competent individuals, and that was the reason he never cared about loyalty. He only wanted results.

Rise trusted that the subordinates had done well with the tasks he issued. Now, they could only wait for that one opportune moment.

He looked up and met Kamille’s eyes.

"We’re also done with our side."

It took longer than expected, but Kamille had perfectly taken over the gates and important monster dens. They had yet to eliminate the influence of the other world, as that would create a phenomenon, as Kamille said.

They had to wait for every fish to be trapped in the cage first. Rise already knew what he would do to them.

This was a dictatorship; he never needed the opinions of others.

The whole city was asleep, but patrols never stopped. It had even strengthened on usual days. The clans also dispatched their own, which was initially rejected by the central city government, but the clan leaders insisted.

What a joke. This city would be theirs soon enough; why would they compromise?

This made the government wary, but the clan leaders hardly cared. Most preparations were already done.

Rise and Kamille were not sleeping, though. As espers, they could afford to sacrifice some sleep. Rise was a guide and could cleanse his own mana, which somehow also helped with accumulating fatigue.

As for Kamille, he was already a monster when he was only human before. Now that he had awakened as a noble, he could stay awake for even a week and be fine.

"I’ve been meaning to ask." Rise had his eyes closed and spoke.

Kamille hummed in response, also doing the same.

Even Baby was sleeping after its feast.

"You’re a noble. Do you still need me as a guide?"

Rise did not know where that came from. Maybe because he had to rack his brains for something to say. But it was valid. Rise had not guided Kamille at all, and the other had not asked him.

He assumed that Kamileld did not need it anymore, and so he had not asked either. After all, he was not familiar with nobles and assumed they never cared about guides.

It was quite sad, but Rise could only accept it.

"What made you think that?" Kamille quickly turned to Rise, who also opened his eyes and looked back at him. "You’re my guide. That never changes."

Rise tilted his head slightly and pursed his lips.

"How? You’re a noble... Not an esper?"

Actually, he was not sure what he was saying either.

"Whatever. Just explain it to me, Guild Leader."

Why would he need to guess? They still had like five hours before the huge event, so there was plenty of time to talk and clarify some things.

Kamille, who was about to do just that, could not help but be amused. "Alright."

Before he could do so, Rise moved and suddenly sat in Kamille’s lap. Now they were already facing each other, much more closely. This was more comfortable.

Rise smiled and wrapped his arm around Kamille’s neck.

"Now, explain."

Kamille blinked and chuckled; his arms automatically slipped through Rise’s waist.

"Simple. I’m a Noble, but I’m also an Esper."
