In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]-Chapter 204: First Battle For Fate’s Favor (10)
Rise could not help but freeze for a second.
The author killed Kamille? But how and why? He was so momentarily focused on that aspect that he almost forgot to feel angry. As he thought of that, he became calm instead.
It was like a calm before the storm. Rise had too many grievances with that author; he wanted to accumulate them as though doing so would make the explosion later be wider.
"Is he fine now?" Rise asked in a small voice.
Since he calmed down, he finally remembered the other details of what the book had said. Kamille died, but he was also resurrected soon after.
The book did not respond, but its silence was already a confirmation. Rise settled his emotions and let himself ask a few questions.
Who knew when he would return to this space again?
"You said changes occurred? What kind of change?"
This information might help them.
The book appeared generous, willing to answer every question this time.
[Just like what happened with yours. The fate accepted it as a rebirth.]
Rise pondered the answer for a few moments and did not immediately respond.
"Hmmm, is it possible for Kamille to be like me? He’s the male lead, right?"
Being like Rise meant he could stand alongside but also outside the plot at the same time. Strictly speaking, he was an anomaly that the world had tolerated because he managed to bypass some rules.
And with the activation of the bookmark, his anomaly identity had become more formidable. In Kamille’s vision, it should be what they called "Unrecorded," but Rise was not yet aware of that.
However, he was a villain and not the main one. His identity should not be too important in the eyes of the world, but Kamille was entirely different.
[You are right. That should be the case. The moment Kamille died, this reset should be over.]
Like an anchor, since the male lead was not around, the world would have to reset itself to correct that error. Even if the protagonist had yet to appear.
"But, fate recognized his rebirth." Rise sort of understood what the book was implying.
[That is correct. If you’ll ask me for the reason, I’m afraid I won’t be able to answer you. Fate is a mysterious thing; even the author can’t control it.]
Could the author not control it? It seemed to make sense, but somehow it wasn’t. Perhaps it was hard to believe, from the perspective of an insignificant character, that his creator was not omnipotent.
Yet, somehow that was also a good thing. If the author could wield everything at their disposal, then everything they were aiming for was just ridiculous from the start.
"I believe it for now."
Rise was flexible enough to test a few more in the future to be certain. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"So, in this fight... We won fate’s favor."
[You can say that.]
The book somehow agreed.
This also confirms that this fight against the unknown author was not exactly impossible. There was hope, even though it was minuscule. Fate was not on either side; they had to only flip the favor a bit more on their side.
Rise’s eyes glimmered at that thought. And for some reason, the book shone a bit as a response. He did not dwell on that further; Rise felt that it would not be for long, and he would wake up.
So, he asked another question before that.
"Why did the author kill Kamille? Do you know any reason for them to do that?"
Kamille was an important factor in the world. Why would the author kill him? Rise had an assumption, but he wanted to hear it from the book to make sure.
[They wanted to reset the world.]
That was simple. The author wanted to reset and have all the uncertainties return, and so they had to kill Kamille. However, this resulted in another anomaly instead.
Rise could not help but laugh, his laughter echoing throughout the whole dark space. He found it amusing, but of course, this feat could not be replicated easily.
"They must be very frustrated right now."
Of course, how would Rise know? He just had to imagine that to improve his mood. While they won, Rise was injured, and Kamille even died.
Although he resurrected soon after, he still died.
Rise realized a flaw immediately. He had become too complacent, especially after Kamille joined his cause. At least this fight gave him a lesson.
No matter what, he should not underestimate the enemy. Especially if the enemies were obviously sent by the author. That feeling of being controlled—no one could bestow that kind of power but that despicable author.
Rise was deep in his thoughts, and when he looked up, the book was gone, and the dark space had become unstable. He realized that he was about to wake up.
How many days was he unconscious this time? Rise could only hope that Kamille would not blame himself too much for his injury.
His vision began to sway, and drowsiness swept over him. Rise, let this feeling consume him, and he fell into a deep sleep.
Rise woke up after two days.
"Huh?" Rise looked at Kamille, his eyes observing his beloved esper with narrowed eyes.
Kamille was helpless and let Rise scrutinize him. The moment Rise opened his eyes, he was already startled because Kamille’s aura and mana density seemed a bit different.
Rise even had to close his eyes and open them again so as to make sure he was in the real world.
There was not much difference in Kamille’s appearance, though. Although his pupils were crimson, Rise was familiar with them. What surprised him was Kamille’s overall impression.
Rise reached out and pinched Kamille’s cheek with his right hand, and his left held the esper’s hand.
"What happened?" Rise finally inquired. He tilted his head, and it truly clicked for him. "Wait! Noble...?"
Unlike other nobles whose mana was distinguishable at a glance, Rise could only sense Kamille’s mana because he was his guide.
He was sensitive to Kamille’s mana wavelength. Rise quickly noticed the difference and sensed the unique mana of a noble.
Kamille did not respond, but he leaned his head in Rise’s hand and intertwined their fingers. He closed his eyes and sighed.
Rise also momentarily forgot his confusion. His eyes softened and cupped Kamille’s face.
"I’m awake, Kamille."
