Chapter 98: Chapter 98

Remillia braced herself as she neared the treetops, adjusting her descent to avoid crashing into a particularly thick patch of foliage. With a final tug on the straps, she managed to glide through a gap in the trees, landing in a relatively clear area. The impact jolted her, but she quickly rolled to absorb the shock and sprang to her feet.

As soon as Remillia touched down, she swiftly detached from her parachute and reached into her backpack and with practiced precision, she retrieved her daggers and placed it on her waist and thigh sheath. She took a moment to assess her surroundings. The forest was thick and humid, with the sounds of distant wildlife echoing through the trees.

One by one, students from different classes fell down near her, there are no signs of her classmates yet so she quickly ran away from them and leaped from tree to tree hoping to see one of her friends while using her skill, ’keen sense’ to see if one of them are near her. Finally I saw Ezekiel fighting another student to prevent his badge from being taken away. I sat down from the branch and cheered for Ezekiel.

"Whooo! Go Ezekiel! Go! Go! Go!"

Ezekiel finally noticed her and shouted, "Aren’t you going to help me?"

I pretended to think for a while, "Only if you’re willing to join my team."

"Am I that crazy to reject your offer?! Of course I’m willing to join you! Now please help me!" Ezekiel shouted while blocking the sword of the Diaspora Class student.

(Quick Reminder: The academy has 5 class of first year students; Agastia, Cosmos, Diaspora, Seofon, and Akasha)

"Okay," I smirked at Ezekiel’s response, finding his desperation amusing. Without wasting another moment, I leaped forward, my daggers gleaming as they caught the light filtering through the trees. With swift and precise movements, I closed the distance between herself, Ezekiel, and his opponent.

The other student, caught off guard by Remillia’s sudden intervention, hesitated for a split second—just enough time for me to make my move. I slashed with one dagger, forcing the student to step back, and then spun to deliver a quick strike with the other dagger, disarming him. The student’s sword clattered to the ground, and before he could react, I knocked him to the ground with a well-placed kick.

Breathing heavily, the student scrambled to his feet preparing to flee but I pointed one of my daggers at his chest, my eyes cold and unwavering. "Leave your badge and go," she commanded.

Reluctantly, the student unpinned his badge and tossed it on the ground before running away from them.

"I’ll take this," I bent down, picked up the badge, and placed it inside my infinite pouch and faced Ezekiel with a smirk. "Welcome to the team," I cheerfully said.

Ezekiel was still panting, "T-thanks. Without you, I must have been the first one to be eliminated."

"Rest up," I replied, already scanning the surroundings for their next move. "We need to find more members and a shelter before it gets dark."

Ezekiel nodded in agreement, wiping sweat from his brow. "Any ideas on who else we should recruit?"

I replied without a second thought, her sharp eyes scanning the dense forest around them, "Of course, my friends and I’m considering in recruiting him, if we combine all of our strengths then we can survive for the whole week."

Ezekiel nodded in agreement, relief evident on his face. "Your friends are definitely top-tier. So, who’s the ’another one’ you’re thinking of?"

Remillia shrugged at his question, "I’m not sure about the other one, let’s see first if he shall accept to be part of my team or not."

Ezekiel nodded thoughtfully, sensing that Remillia was hedging her bets. "Fair enough. If he’s useful, great. If not, we can manage without him."

Remillia smirked slightly. "Exactly. We’ll keep our options open. If he accepts, it could work in our favor. If not, we’ll adapt."

Ezekiel seemed satisfied with the plan. "Alright, let’s find the others and see how this plays out. The clock’s ticking, and we need to be ready for anything."

Remillia nodded, trying to remember the routes she passed by earlier, "First, we head east. There’s a cave near a river not too far from here; let’s see if we can make it as our base We can decide our next moves from there."

Ezekiel tightened his grip on his sword, ready to follow Remillia’s lead. "Lead the way, Remillia."

With a final glance around, Remillia started moving swiftly through the forest, Ezekiel close behind her. As they made their way towards the river, Remillia kept her senses sharp, listening for any signs of other students or lurking monsters. The sun was slowly sinking behind the trees, casting long shadows that stretched across the forest floor. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

As soon as we arrived at their destination, I scouted the whole area first before entering the cave. The space was larger than I had expected, with a high ceiling and enough room for our group to move around comfortably. The food supplies we found were also a welcome surprise, probably because of my luck.

"We lucked out," Ezekiel commented, inspecting the supplies. "This will keep us going for a while."

I nodded, already planning our next steps. "We’ll fortify this place and set up some traps around the entrance. We need to make sure we’re not caught off guard."

Ezekiel agreed, starting to organize the supplies while I continued to explore the cave. I found a narrow passage at the back that led to a small, concealed chamber—perfect for storing our supplies or as a last resort hiding spot.

"This will do nicely," I said to myself, feeling more confident about our chances.

With the last of the supplies safely stashed in the concealed chamber, Remillia and Ezekiel breathed a little easier. The chamber was secure, tucked away in the back of the cave, and would be difficult for anyone else to find without knowing it was there.

"At least we won’t have to worry about our supplies being stolen," Ezekiel said, glancing around the darkening cave. "This place is well-hidden."

I nodded, satisfied with our work. "Exactly. And if anyone tries to enter, we’ll know. The traps should give us a heads-up."

As night fell, the cave became pitch-black, with only the faint light from their small lantern casting flickering shadows on the walls. The sounds of the forest outside were muffled, making the cave feel like a fortress against the dangers lurking in the dark.

"We’ll take turns keeping watch," I suggested. "You should take the first watch, I’ll take the next one later."

Ezekiel shook his head, "You should take the first watch, it’ll be too dark later."

"Don’t worry about me and I’m used to being active especially at night," I was lying of course, she would love to sleep the whole night but it will be the best time later to eliminate other students while they’re asleep.

Ezekiel raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical of her claim but ultimately shrugged in agreement. "If you say so. Just don’t fall asleep on the job later," he teased, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

I just gave him a smile, "I should get some rest," as I turned around and walked to my tent. Once inside my tent, I immediately summoned Macaron.

Remillia sighed, leaning back against the cool fabric of her temporary shelter. The memory of that day flashed through her mind, a mix of frustration and disbelief. The plan had been simple: destroy the Pomellus’ Pendant and prevent its dangerous power from falling into the wrong hands. But fate, it seemed, had other plans.

The day I planned to destroy the pendant, we went outside the academy to destroy it there. As they strolled, Macaron scanned the surroundings for any signs of danger or spies but what caught his eyes seemed to interest him. In his haste to snatch a particularly juicy insect from the air, Macaron’s sharp talons accidentally grasped the Pomellus Pendant, which lay on the ground. It fell down on Remillia’s pocket while she tried to catch Macaron as he was going crazy about an insect.

Long story short, Macaron is now the owner of the pendant.

Remillia reached out and gently patted Macaron, who now sat beside her, his eyes glinting with mischief. "You really caused a lot of trouble, you know that?" she whispered, though her tone held no malice.

<I can’t help it. The bug was so tasty looking.>

I have this urge to smack him again but I stopped myself, "It’s better this way, at least your stats have increased," I sighed. "You’ll have to keep guard later, I’ll be going somewhere else."

Macaron puffed out his chest, his eyes gleaming with determination. <You can count on me. No one’s getting past me!>

She finally closed her eyes, allowing herself to relax. The soft rustling of the tent and the distant sounds of the forest began to lull her into sleep.
