Chapter 88: Chapter 88

"Since I’ve counted 20 including me, each of us will be having a partner. Now, the 10 of us will be grabbing a string while the other 10 will be tying their wrist with the string. If you pull the string and the one you pulled that is tied with the other that will be your partner for today."

I chose to be tied to a string along with Whitney and Angela who’s whispering, "Please let it be him again, please."

She must be talking about Cypher. I ignored her as I try to sleep, I slept very late last night to finish all my assignments. I was dozing off when I felt a soft tug on my wrist.

"Great! Cypher and Remillia, you’ll be partners for today," Zachary happily exclaimed. I opened my eyes and looked at Cypher who was softly smiling at me then I turned to look at Angela, who was now glaring at me.

’Does she consider me as her love rival? Heck, it was just coincidence that Cypher pulled my string.’

"Then the last two couples are Whitney, Magenta and Angela, Edge. By the way, Edge here is our new member of the club. He recently just joined so be nice with him."

’Oh, this is new. As far as I know, Edge didn’t join any club so why now?’ Ahh right, it must be because of the butterfly effect.

I heard Angela bickering to herself, "It’s not fair, I want to be partnered with him."

I was about to switch places with her when Zachary announced, "Now that we’re done choosing partners, you better not switch places with others. What’s the point of playing a mini game if you’re just going to disobey me right?"

Zachary’s cheerful tone masked a subtle but clear warning, making everyone think twice about any plans to swap partners. Remillia noticed Angela’s pouty expression, but there was nothing she could do about it now.

As they approached the academy’s portal, he reminded everyone of the plan. "Alright, everyone! Remember, this is a time to unwind and enjoy yourselves. Let’s make the most of this trip!"

The portal shimmered with a vibrant glow as the students, paired up and eager, stepped through it one by one, not knowing where they would go this time.

"Where do you think we’ll be going next?" I asked Cypher who was sticking close next to me.

"I heard that we’ll be going to a different country this time."

They went to Élirville, Aurélien. The weather here is warm but doesn’t hurt the skin, with gentle mountain breezes and occasional springtime showers.

Before the pairs venture on their own, Zachary informed them that they will be meeting at the same spot before 8. Those who fail to comply will be given a punishment.

Angela, Edge, Whitney and her partner wanted to join Remillia and Cypher to walk on the streets and have fun, but by the time they went looking for them they were already gone.

Angela started to pout again when she thought of the two together alone. Edge noticing her change of mood would constantly try to cheer her up while Whitney could only watch them with a hint of jealousy in her eyes. As much as she wanted to tear Angela’s pouting lips she doesn’t have the nerve to do that, Edge would instantly make her as his enemy even though they’re childhood friends.

In the end, they decided that they would separate ways. As much as Whitney wanted to join Angela and Edge. She knows that she’ll only be cast aside since Edge focus will only be on Angela.

’I just wish Christian was here,’ Whitney immediately erased her thoughts as her heart began to throb. Why would she suddenly think about him? Stop it, I only have eyes on Edge.

Meanwhile, the two who was unaware of what happened, Remillia and Cypher wandered through the picturesque streets of Élirville, she couldn’t help but be captivated by the city’s beauty. The blend of Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo architecture fascinated her, and she often paused to admire the intricate details on the buildings or the elegance of a nearby fountain.

"Isn’t this place amazing?" Remillia remarked, her eyes shining as she took in the surroundings.

Cypher nodded, smiling at her enthusiasm. "It really is. Aurélien has always been known for its architectural wonders, but seeing it in person is something else."

They continued their leisurely stroll, occasionally stopping at a quaint cafe or browsing through a boutique filled with local crafts. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the two of them enjoyed the peacefulness of the day.

At one point, Remillia noticed a charming courtyard tucked away between two buildings. "Let’s check this out," she suggested, pulling Cypher along with her.

The courtyard was a hidden gem, with a small fountain in the center surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. They sat on a stone bench, taking a moment to soak in the tranquility.

"It’s nice to have some time to just relax," Cypher said, leaning back and closing his eyes.

Remillia nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. "Yeah, it is. I’m glad we got paired up today."

Lost in her thoughts, Remillia suddenly realized the time when she glanced at her smartwatch—it was already 12 PM. With a playful tug on Cypher’s arm, she led him toward a nearby restaurant.

"We should grab some lunch. There’s a place I’ve heard about that serves amazing local dishes," Remillia said with a smile, her excitement evident.

Cypher, who’s always smiling, simply nodded, "Lead the way."

The two of them walked together, with Remillia slightly ahead, guiding them through the winding streets. The restaurant they arrived at was a cozy, rustic establishment with a warm atmosphere. The scent of freshly baked bread and aromatic spices filled the air as they entered.

They found a table by the window, where they could enjoy a view of the bustling street outside while savoring their meal. The menu was filled with a variety of traditional dishes from Aurélien, each one more tempting than the last. As they ordered and waited for their food, Remillia and Cypher chatted about everything from their classes to the recent missions they had undertaken.

Remillia was savoring her meal, fully immersed in the flavors, when she coincidentally glanced out the window. Her eyes widened, and she almost spat out her food in shock. Rubbing her eyes to make sure she wasn’t seeing things, she stared intently at the person outside. It really was her—Annabelle. Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve met her... but why is she with that guy? Doesn’t she know who he was?

"Remi?" Cypher’s concerned voice brought her back to reality.

Before she could lose sight of them, Remillia stood up abruptly. "I have to go somewhere, but don’t worry, I’ll be back before you know it. The bill has already been paid."

"W-wait!" Cypher called out, confusion evident in his voice. But before he could stop her, Remillia was already out the door, disappearing into the crowd.

Determined to catch up to Annabelle and the mysterious man, Remillia maneuvered through the bustling streets of Élirville with swift precision. Her mind raced with questions and concern, unsure of what was going on but certain that she needed to find out. As she finally spotted them again, she slowed her pace, trying to stay unnoticed while she observed their interaction.

The man who she is with right now is Thorne Vex. Why do I know him? He has a scar on his right eyebrow and one of his eye color is yellow because of his ability, ’Metamorpha’.

He can change his appearance anytime but I can see his eye color and scar clearly even when he’s in disguise. Not only that, he’s also the right hand man of the leader of Nightjars, Kairos Thane.

When Remillia finally caught up, she called out to Annabelle. "Annabelle!" she exclaimed, hoping to stop them in their tracks.

But to her surprise, Annabelle turned, her expression cool and detached, as if she didn’t recognize Remillia at all. "I’m sorry, do I know you?" Annabelle responded, her tone polite but distant.

’Why is she pretending not to know me?’

Remillia hesitated, taken aback by the response. She glanced at Thorne, who met her gaze with a hint of curiosity before subtly steering Annabelle away from her.

She can’t help but stare at Thorne, who’s currently using the face of Annabelle’s ex right now. ’There’s something going on. Why did Thorne approached Annabelle?’

"I deeply apologize, I must have mistaken you for someone else," Remillia said, giving a small, polite nod before turning her back on Annabelle and Thorne.

As she walked away, she felt the weight of Thorne’s gaze lingering on her, like a shadow she couldn’t shake. She ignored it, her mind swirling with thoughts. ’I can’t keep up with the original story. I guess I need to rely on the system for more information.’
