Chapter 77: Chapter 77

"We can’t help but worry two of our friends in there, archmage."

"Even if you go there, are you sure you can be of help?"

They went silent.

"There’s an apex grade monster out there. Let’s say all of you indeed lend out a helping hand but then... are you sure Remillia can focus in attacking while protecting all of you as her friends?"

They can’t find the answer his question. He’s right. Remillia is on a different league than them, they’ll just slow Remillia down if they appear suddenly.

"Then please find and help our friends."

"Please archmage."

Gusion smiled at how persistent they are, "Even if you don’t say that, me, your instructor and some of the mages will be going to find them, since it’s partly my fault as to why they can’t be teleported here immediately." ... and because my teacher will scold me if I don’t help his future apprentice.

"Thank you!"

"Now evacuate this place. We’ll be going now."

"Yes, archmage!"

They felt relieved but why does it seem that the archmage seems to know Remillia?

When Remillia and Ezekiel arrived at the scene, their eyes widened in shock and awe as they beheld the towering, 30-foot-long Subterranea, its violet scales shimmering with arcs of crackling electricity. The colossal serpent undulated with a menacing grace, its glowing yellow eyes fixed intently on two of their group mates who were desperately trying to avoid its lethal attacks.

"I’m out of here!"

Ezekiel can’t help but immediately crushed the ring as Remillia yelled to stop him. However few seconds passed and nothing happened.

"Why didn’t it worked?"

He was sweating as he refused to look at Remillia who he knows for sure wanted to kill him already.

"What was that just now? Hmmm?"

Ezekiel snapped his eyes shut as a whimper escaped his lips. He doesn’t want to die young.

"Ezekiel~ Do you plan on leaving us is that it?"

"W-what are you saying? Of course not! I destroyed it so that I can’t use it later!"

Remillia only sighed and ordered him to move the other two who was stunned in fear. She immediately went to aid Edge who was standing at the forefront, doing his best to keep the monster’s attention.

His movements were quick and calculated, but it was clear he was struggling to keep up with the creature’s relentless assault. The Subterranea lashed out with its electrified tail, sending a shower of sparks into the air as it missed Edge by mere inches.

Subterranea

Difficulty: Apex Grade 2

Form: A colossal, violet-scaled snake that resides deep underground. Measuring over 30 feet in length, its body is covered in iridescent, purple-black scales that shimmer in the faintest light. Its eyes are a piercing, glowing yellow, and its fangs are long and curved, dripping with venom. Subterranea’s underbelly is lighter in color and more flexible, allowing it to burrow swiftly through the earth. Its tail ends in a set of sharp, spade-like scales, used for digging and for combat. Crackling with electrical energy, its scales occasionally discharge arcs of lightning, adding to its already formidable presence.

Killing Method: Subterranea’s ability to burrow and emerge from different locations makes it hard to predict its attacks. It can channel electrical energy through its body, releasing it in a sudden shockwave. This wave of electricity can stun opponents, disrupt electronics, and even cause temporary paralysis. The electric discharge can also ignite flammable materials, turning the environment into a hazard. Its fangs deliver a potent venom that paralyzes its victim almost instantly. This venom also contains neurotoxins that cause intense pain and disorientation, making it impossible for the prey to fight back effectively.

Weak Spot: A small, soft patch of flesh located just below its jaw, where its scales are thinnest and least protective. This area is difficult to reach, as Subterranea constantly keeps it close to the ground or hidden while in combat.

"What took you so long to come here?!"

"You know Ezekiel? He planned on leaving us after seeing this monster."

"Why that p*ssy!"

"Then why didn’t he teleport?"

"Dodge!" I yelled at him as its tail came crushing down towards us.

Bang!

"Be careful of its venom dripping, it can instantly paralyze you."

"Okay!"

"Where was I? Oh, the ring’s not working and when I tried to call Christian again it seemed that communications has been cut off."

"Maybe due to that monster’s electrical attribute."

Soon enough, Ezekiel joined us.

"Great you’re here."

"And here I thought you chickened out of this fight."

"You should be thankful I came back."

Before they fight again, I describe the monster we were fighting and a strategy to at least weaken it.

Remillia, positioning herself to the left of Subterranea, called out to Edge, "Edge! Keep circling to your right! We need to flank it!"

Edge nodded, sweat dripping down his face as he narrowly avoided another strike from the serpent’s spade-like tail. "Easier said than done!" he shouted back, breathless. "This thing’s faster than it looks!"

Ezekiel, meanwhile, had taken up position on the opposite side, trying to draw the monster’s attention with a series of quick jabs from his spear. The weapon sparked as it made contact with Subterranea’s scales, but the serpent barely flinched. "This isn’t working! We need to find a way to hit its weak spot!" Ezekiel yelled, frustration edging his voice.

"I know!" Remillia replied, her eyes never leaving Subterranea as she parried one of its venomous fangs with her arcanum. "The spot under its jaw—it’s our only chance! But we have to get it to lift its head!"

Ezekiel grimaced as he dodged a lunge, the ground cracking beneath him from the force of Subterranea’s strike. "And how exactly do we do that? It’s like it knows we’re trying to get under there!"

Remillia quickly scanned the surroundings, her mind racing. "We need to confuse it—make it think one of us is vulnerable. Ezekiel, distract it with a frontal attack, but don’t get too close! Edge, you and I will strike from the sides when it lunges at him!"

"Great, I’m bait now?" Ezekiel quipped, though his tone was more resigned than annoyed. He knew it was the best plan they had. "Alright, here goes nothing!"

Ezekiel charged forward, thrusting his spear toward Subterranea’s face, forcing it to focus on him. The serpent’s eyes locked onto him, its body coiling as it prepared to strike.

Edge and Remillia moved in unison, closing in from either side. "Now, Edge!" Remillia shouted, and together they leaped, aiming their weapons at the vulnerable spot beneath Subterranea’s jaw.

But the serpent was faster than they anticipated. It snapped its head back at the last second, avoiding their strikes, and retaliated with a shockwave of electricity. The force of the blast sent them stumbling back, their weapons crackling with residual energy.

Bzzzt!

Boom!

"We were too slow!" Remillia hissed, regaining her balance. "We need to time it perfectly!"

"I’m open to suggestions!" Edge shouted, wincing as the static energy buzzed through his veins. "Because that nearly fried me!"

Ezekiel, recovering from his decoy maneuver, gritted his teeth. "We need to push it to the limit—make it use up its energy so it can’t keep up with us!"

Remillia nodded, the gears turning in her mind. "Alright, keep up the pressure, but don’t get too close. We’ll wear it down and then go in for the kill. Ezekiel, keep its attention divided. Edge, stay mobile—don’t let it focus on you!"

As the battle dragged on, exhaustion began to weigh heavily on Remillia, Ezekiel, and Edge. Their movements were slowing, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. Subterranea, though showing signs of wear from the relentless assault, remained a towering threat, its violet scales still crackling with electrical energy. The serpent’s attacks were becoming more aggressive, as if sensing that its opponents were nearing their limits.

Remillia wiped sweat from her brow, her mind racing for a solution. They couldn’t keep this up much longer—if they didn’t end it soon, they’d be the ones lying defeated on the ground. Her eyes flickered to the soft patch under Subterranea’s jaw, the only vulnerable spot they had discovered. They had tried to strike it before, but the serpent was too fast, too cunning.

And then it hit her—a plan that was risky, almost reckless, but it might be their only chance.

"Listen up!" Remillia called out, gathering the last of her energy to make herself heard over the chaotic sounds of the battle. "I’ve got an idea, but it’s going to take everything we’ve got left!"

Ezekiel and Edge turned to her, their eyes filled with a mix of determination and desperation. They didn’t have much fight left in them, but they trusted Remillia’s instincts.

"We need to trick it into thinking we’re out of options," Remillia explained, her voice urgent. "Ezekiel, I need you to get its attention one more time—make it think you’re completely vulnerable. Edge, you’ll be the bait, but only for a moment. When Subterranea lunges, I’ll go for the kill. It’s our last shot."
