Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Court Summons

The next day. π‘“π‘Ÿβ„―π˜¦π“Œπ˜¦π˜£π‘›π‘œπ“‹π‘’π“.𝑐ℴ𝓂

East Emperor Entertainment received a summons from the Capital City court, with Ewan Xyler as the attorney handling the case.

Seeing Ewan Xyler’s name, East Emperor Entertainment’s upper management urgently convened a meeting.

Chairman Yarrow emerged from the conference room with a darkened face, and there was even a faint wound on his forehead, obviously smashed by something heavy.

The sounds of arguments from the conference room were loud enough for everyone on the same floor to hear.

All the employees were trembling with fear, not even daring to raise their heads, terrified of getting caught up in trouble.

After Chairman Yarrow returned to his office, he immediately called Chloe Summers; the anger in his voice was practically burning through the phone.

"Get over to my office. Now."

Chloe was taken aback. "Chairman Yarrow, didn’t you say when we’re at the company I should avoid coming into your office to avoid suspicion?"

Right now, he couldn’t care less about any of that.

Back in the meeting, he was the one who took the lead and insisted on terminating Quiana Sutton’s contract.

Honestly, she was just a small-time celebrity. East Emperor Entertainment wasn’t exactly a nobody in Capital City. Since he pushed to terminate her contract, the other directors just turned a blind eye and went along.

But nobody expected Quiana Sutton would actually convince Ewan Xyler to act as her agent and turn around to sue East Emperor Entertainment.

Everyone knew Ewan Xyler was backed by the Landon Family. A single misstep could mean offending them, and that was something East Emperor absolutely could not afford.

The other directors dumped all the blame onto him. In the first place, he had no personal grudge with that nobody celebrity; if Chloe Summers hadn’t been whispering in his ear, why would he have been so stubborn?

Women always had that sixth sense. Liam Yarrow had never lost his temper with her like this before, so she couldn’t help but wonder: Had their relationship been discovered by his wife?

But she quickly dismissed the idea. If his wife really knew, why would he still tell her to walk right into his office?

In her view, as long as it wasn’t exposed by his wife, everything else was small potatoes. She’d just act cute and coax him, and it’d blow over.

When she entered his office, just as she was about to play coy, he threw the court summons right in her face, snapping with rage:

"Look at what you’ve done."

He’d always been soft on her, put her on a pedestal; this was the first time he’d treated her like this. She felt seriously pissed off but managed not to let it show, bent down and picked up the document.

Realized it was a court summons.

East Emperor Entertainment had gone to war with plenty of other agencies and celebrities over the yearsβ€”so why was he so upset this time?

She asked in confusion, "It’s just a summons. What’s so special about it?"

Chairman Yarrow was nearly driven insane by her.

"Idiot! You think Ewan Xyler is just some random lawyer? Does he take every case he’s handed? The fact that he’s representing Quiana Sutton against East Emperor shows their relationship isn’t ordinary.

More importantly, don’t you know the person backing him is the Landon Family at Universal Corporation? If Quiana wants, tons of entertainment companies would be lining up to sign her."

Hearing this, Chloe Summers felt a jolt in her heart. How could Quiana Sutton have any connection to the Landon Family?

She said uneasily, "If Quiana really was tied to the Landon Family, then why are her resources so mediocre up to now? Maybe it’s just some deal between her and Ewan Xyler?"

Saying this, she was clearly displeased but still had to admit, "I mean, with that face of hers, any man would be bewitched."

Chairman Yarrow calmed down a bit.

True, if Quiana Sutton was actually connected to the Landon Family, why would she sign with East Emperor Entertainment?

Global Entertainment under Universal Corporation would be a much better deal, right?

"You’re right. I was pissed off and not thinking clearly. Maybe the Landons don’t know about this yet."

If the Landons didn’t know, there was still room to maneuver.

Chloe Summers didn’t say anything more. She just stared at the court summons, her eyes downcast, a trace of malice flickering through her gaze.

...

Around eight in the evening.

Quiana Sutton unexpectedly got a call from Oliver Gale, and there was a bit of noise on the other end.

She frowned slightly. "Young Master Windsor, did you need something?"

Oliver Gale sounded half-drunk, his voice floating and shattered in the air: "Hey, kid, we’re having a gathering tonight. Durrell’s smashed. Can you come pick him up?"

She replied flatly, "He has a driver."

"He gave the driver the night off..."

"..."

She rubbed her brow, a bit annoyed. "Where are you guys?"

"Between Clouds and Waters."

Half an hour later, Quiana arrived at the private room Oliver had given, and froze as soon as she opened the door.

Inside, besides Durrell Landon, Oliver Gale, and Julian Haworth, there were several womenβ€”all from Evelyn Windsor’s circle. And if her memory was right, the person kneeling on the floor was East Emperor’s Chairman Yarrow.

According to Grace Sutton, it was Chairman Yarrow who had insisted on terminating Quiana’s contract no matter what.

Her arrival threw everyone in the roomβ€”except Oliver Galeβ€”off guard.

She crossed her arms, lounged against the doorway, wearing a half-smile as she glanced at everyone inside.

"Did I come at a bad time?"

Julian Haworth never liked her anyway. Naturally, he couldn’t resist stirring the pot.

"Of course it’s a bad time. Chairman Yarrow here’s been supplying Durrell with beauties. If you were a few minutes later, you might’ve caught the live show."

As expected, Durrell Landon kicked Julian hard.

"Shut up."

Durrell put about seventy or eighty percent of his strength into that kick, making Julian grimace in pain.

Dude was way too ruthless.

Quiana couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

Moron.

Chairman Yarrow glared at Quiana, if looks could kill, the flames in his eyes would’ve burned her alive.

He’d gone to great trouble to find out Durrell Landon would be at this gathering. Everyone in Capital City knew Young Master Landon was obsessed with Evelyn Windsor, so he’d purposely rounded up that whole circle.

Men only care about money, power, and sex.

Money and powerβ€”Durrell had plenty. The only regret was how Evelyn Windsor had slipped away without a word all those years ago.

He thought bringing her type in would cheer up Durrell, and once Durrell was happy, the issue with Ewan Xyler could be smoothed over. Who’d have thought Quiana would suddenly show up?

Durrell Landon didn’t even glance at Chairman Yarrow kneeling on the floor. His eyes landed on Quiana, who stood not far away, and he spoke with a calmness that couldn’t hide the subtle accusation in his gaze:

"Why’d you come here?"

The reason was, obviously, she’d gotten Oliver Gale’s call.

She really hadn’t expected Oliver’s acting was that good; for a moment she’d actually thought he was drunk.
