I Try To Enjoy My Life But This Woman Keep Calling Me Villain-Chapter 71: Assassination Attempt
|3rd POV|
Alexander looks at the enemy that slowly marches to the fortress. He notices the change in the enemy’s strategy. He can see the enemy put their image in the back to protect the entire backline, which worries him.
With the mage in the back, he has a feeling that the enemy will create protection against a flying spell.
However, he knows that his son will create a plan to defeat the enemy in front of them, and he is right. While Alexander commands the people on the wall and behind the wall, Gwyndolin is busy giving his order to his group, two hundred strong.
Gwyndolin looks at Jullian, and his unit consists of seventy soldiers with a great talent in close combat. They are already wearing armor from Gwyn’s guild treasury. They are all mid-tier armor that is used as a burner for an enchantment process.
He also gives them weapons like swords, spears, maces, and war hammers.
"Young master, we are ready for our mission! Give us an order!"
Gwyn nods, looks at them for a few seconds, and says.
"Jullian, take these necklaces and rings."
The necklaces and rings might have different shapes but have one function. They have a [Concealment] spell that hides their presence from the enemy. It was not a high-level spell. However, if used correctly, they are good enough to create chaos within an enemy’s rank.
"It will give you guys a [Concealment] spell. Use them to fly above the sky and sneak on the enemy’s rear."
"Yes, young master!"
Jullian and his unit take the items I give them. He gives a necklace and a ring to each person.
"The necklace is the concealment, and the ring is flying. Some of you already know how to use the flying ring. The necklace has the same way of using them. Jullian, teach the others how to use them. Your team will go when the fight starts."
"Yes, young master!"
Gwyn nods and sees Jullian telling the others how to use the trinkets. While Jullian is talking with his unit, Gwyn looks at Sonia and says.
"Sonia, you will come with me. We will stay on the wall and be the communication master for all of us."
Sonia learns a new spell that lets her send a message to someone’s ears. Gwyndolin has yet to learn it, which is why he asks Sonia to stay next to him.
"Yes, Father!"
"That is not only your job. I also need you to make sure to heal the others and rescue them before they are killed."
"Yes! Leave it to me."
Lastly, Gwyndolin looks at Jonathan and says,
"Jonathan, just like I said before, you will be my eyes in the sky. However, this time I want you to focus on the area around the fortress. Tell me when the traitor takes action."
"Yes, my lord!"
Jonathan nodded seriously as he did not want to disappoint his god. He will give his life if it is to make sure the mission given to him is fulfilled. He wants to prove himself to be useful to Gwyndolin. He did not want to be abandoned once again.
Seeing his serious face, Gwyn smiles and pats Jonathan’s head.
"You don’t need to worry. Just do your best, and you will not disappoint me."
Jonathan looks at Gwyn and nods.
"En! I will!"
"Good."
They snap from their thoughts when they hear the war horn get blown one time, but it is a long one. That means the enemy starts to move, and they need to join the others. When Gwyn and the others get on the wall, they can see a massive number of enemies slowly marching to the fortress.
Alexander starts the battle by ordering the archer to prepare their bow and arrow. Seeing this action, Gwyndolin quickly takes out his staff and points it to the sky.
"[Zodiac: Sagittarius]!"
A symbol of Sagittarius appears in the sky, and all the archers glow brightly.
"Loose!"
The archers widen their eyes when they see their arrows fly at high speed, faster than their usual speed. The arrow was so fast that the enemy’s vanguard did not have time to raise their shield and block the arrow.
After casting that spell, Gwyndolin looks at Sonia and says,
"Sonia, connect me to my father."
She nods and takes a deep breath. A few seconds later, a small magic circle appears in front of Gwyn’s lips. Gwyn nods and says to the magic circle.
"Father. This is me, Gwyn. Order the archer to fire at the enemy and not to the sky. My spell makes their arrows faster. This spell lasts for three minutes."
After he says that, he looks at his father, nods, and orders the archers to fire at the enemy and not at the sky to get more distance. [Zodiac: Sagittarius] did not only enchant the arrow’s speed but also its penetration.
So each time the arrows hit the enemy’s shield, they feel as if a battering ram hits their shields because of the arrows’ speed, and cracks start to appear in the magical shield around their shield because of the penetration boost. The soldiers behind the vanguard start to get nervous because their best defense gets beaten by the enemy’s archer.
Brian, the commander of the vanguard, notices the morale of his men starts to drop. He needs to do something and knows what he needs to do.
"[Wall of the Holy City]!"
After he says that, a massive wall made of golden light appears in front of the entire foot soldiers and blocks the arrows coming his way. The golden walls block all the arrows coming their way, and the morale in the vanguard rises up at the sight of their commander blocking all the lethal arrows.
Brian smirks, but his smirk turns into a frown when he sees after the first volley after he uses his talent, the archers on the wall stop shooting.
Alexander already knows about Brian’s talent, and he acts accordingly. The people who are still shooting are the people from the Lionheart and Tarrow noble families.
When Alexander sees the golden wall start to disappear, he quickly shouts.
"Shoot them down!"
Another volley of arrows flew and hit the enemy. Because of the bombardment, some of the elite vanguards die from the arrows that pierce even their armor. Sadly, the three-minute buff is gone, and Alexander orders the archers to shoot like normal.
While Alexander is busy preparing for close combat, Gwyn is busy taking care of the idiot that stands near him.
"Give me the arrows!"
"What?! How come you already use all your arrows?! You are shooting the golden wall, aren’t you?! How can you disobey the order?!"
"What are you saying?! Because I keep shooting, the wall disappears in less than a minute!"
Many soldiers that worked for Lord Lionheart and Lord Tarrow kept wasting their arrows to the point the soldiers from the Cunningham family did not have enough arrows to shoot. After a few minutes of bickering, Gwyndolin has enough and says in a loud voice.
"Stop this madness! You all! Get away from the wall! You will not join the archers!"
"Who do you think you are?! A mere heir dares to command us?!"
"Yeah! We are the elite soldiers of the Lionheart Viscounty!"
"That’s right! Only Lord Lionheart can order us!"
"Yeah! You have no right!"
Gwyndolin takes a deep breath and holds himself from killing them on the spot. He cannot do that, not in this open field where the others can see him do the deeds. He shakes his head and looks at the people under his command.
"Give them the quiver. Trust me."
The soldiers nod their heads and obey their young master’s orders. After giving the other group all the quivers full of arrows, Gwyn looks at the clown in front of him and says.
"There. Now, you can go to the edge of the wall. Enemies are also coming from that direction. That is all the quiver in this unit. Make sure you did not waste them all."
The leader of the group sneers at him and walks away to the edge of the wall with his men. He released a sigh and looked at forty archers who did not have any more arrows. He did not like taking items from his friend’s personal vault, but this was an emergency situation.
He takes out forty massive quivers filled with arrows. His friend is an archer and one of the best at that. He is a great player that knows how to play safely and when to play dangerously. However, he has one quirky personality. He is a hoarder. He will buy at least a thousand items that he once used (mostly battle-related items like arrows and potions).
He has five thousand low-level arrows in his personal vault.
"Use these arrows and make sure that bastard did not get any of them."
"Yes, young master!"
Gwyn can only shake his head and get back to his commanding position. However, before he can get back, Jullian tackles him.
"Young master, watch out!"
The two of them rolled away. Gwyn wanted to ask what happened but stopped when he saw seven people wearing all-black outfits stabbing their knives on the stone wall. The leader of the group looks at Gwyn and says,
"You should not dodge that attack. Now you will die painfully."
