Chapter 70: Chapter 70

|3rd POV|

Charles looks at his army marching with the siege engine slowly moving behind the army. In the last fight, he put the mage and archer in the front, just behind the foot soldiers, but now they are putting them in the back.

He knows that it makes the vanguard vulnerable to the enemy’s mage attack, but he knows that his siege engine is more important.

Charles looks at the panel in front of him and sees the battlefield. He looks at his right-hand man and says.

"Show me the enemy."

"Yes, my lord."

A second later, the panel shows the view from a few hundred meters above the fortress. He frowns a little when he cannot see the biggest obstacle in his campaign. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Where are you, Gwyndolin?"

He needs to know the location of Gwyndolin so he can kill him. Fighting against someone who keeps getting healed up and has infinite stamina is terrifying. He already saw it in action, and he did not want to see it once again.

He kept searching for a few seconds before his right-hand man pointed something out.

"My lord, there he is."

Charles looks at where his right-hand man points and sees Gwyndolin is busy giving an order to the group of healers. He frowns a little when he sees Gwyn on healing duty.

"It looks like we truly need to go with Plan B, huh?"

He takes a deep breath and says to all his commanders.

"Brian!"

"Yes!"

The [Shield Lord] moves forward and gives a salute to Charles.

"I need you to command the foot soldiers. You will be the one tanking all the arrows and magic as the mage will be busy in the back."

"Yes, my lord! Leave it to me! I shall lead the soldiers to reach the wall!"

"Good. I will leave all the shielders in your command."

Shielders are elite soldiers that Brian trains personally. They are the elite that can take as much damage as possible without going down. They are equipped with the most powerful armor and a magic shield that can create a magical barrier around the shield to protect the soldiers behind them.

They are the ultimate guardian.

"I see. You want us to get serious, my lord?"

"Yes. You know what to do."

"Of course! I will not let you down!"

"You never do."

Brian raises his head higher when he hears Charles praising him. Like all the commanders under Charles’ command, they are loyal to the dead to him. Hearing their Lord Marshall’s praise is the biggest gift in their mind.

"Barlan."

"Yes, my lord!"

A man wearing white armor and having a long lance behind his back walks forward.

"I want you to command your unit to attack the enemy’s left flank. I will give you the signal, and when you do, use your talent to destroy their left flank."

"I see. You want us to attack the Silver Wolf, my lord?"

"Yes. Destroy them and make sure none are alive."

"Of course."

"After you kill them all, attack the foot soldier in the middle. We will create a pincer attack."

"Will the other join me from the right flank?"

"No"

At first, Barlan looks confused, but when he sees Charles smirking, he knows what the plan is.

"I see! It will be done."

"Good. Elizabeth"

The only woman commander walks forward and gives a quick salute.

"My lord!"

"Elizabeth, I need you and your unit to try and get into that wall. Kill Gwyndolin and create chaos within the enemy rank."

"Where should we get in?"

Charles nods and points his finger at the right wall of the fortress.

"There is a hidden trap door around here. Find it and use that emergency escape path to get inside the fortress. You will use that emergency path when the fight starts and start your mission."

"Of course, my lord. I will not disappoint you."

Elizabeth nods, and a second later, her group wearing all-black clothes appears beside her. They are her comrades. They are masters of sabotage and assassination. Charles rarely uses them, but when he encounters a hard battle, he uses them to make the fight easier.

Their presence will reduce the enemy’s morale, and the chaos they create will also break the enemy’s focus and let his army march forward easier.

"Good.

After hearing that, Elizabeth and her group disappear and leave the others behind to complete their mission. They already have their mission, and now it is time to work.

Seeing Elizabeth and her group disappear, Charles looks to the side and says.

"Yorlan."

"Yes, my lord!"

An old man wearing a mage robe walks forward, holding his staff close.

"Unlike before, I want your group to protect our backline. We don’t want another failure by that flying unit."

"Of course, my lord."

"Have you finished with that device you promised?"

"Yes."

He takes out a small gem from his pocket and says.

"This is the flying spell disruptor. This device will cancel any flying spell. That means they cannot fly away once they get into the range of these gems."

Yorlan spent the past two days creating these gems and spreading them among the mages in the army, as only mages can activate the gems.

"Good."

Sadly, what they did not know was that the reason why Jullian and his group could fly was because of an enchantment, not a spell. In this world, there are two kinds of magic. Active magic and idle magic. Active magic is one that moves around, creating an effect that should not exist. Idle magic is magic that already creates an effect but does not move around.

Idle magic is Enchantment and Warding Magic.

Active Magic is the most magic in the world, like Fireball and Flying Magic.

At the moment, Charles and Yorlan do not know about this knowledge, but they will know it soon.

"Place your people in the strategic place to cover all of our bases. Can you spare some of your magicians so they can go to the frontline?"

Yorlan thinks for a few seconds and nods.

"I think I can spare three to five of them."

"Send three, but if you can send five, let five of them to the frontline. They will be under Brian’s command. In case the Battering Ram cannot reach their gate, the magician will do the job and destroy that blasted metal gate."

We did not need to worry about the gate, right, my lord? We have that plan, right?"

"No. We can only trust ourselves to do the job correctly. If they can open the gate, we are good, but if they cannot do that, we have a backup plan. We cannot place all of our eggs in one basket. That is why we are still making the siege engine."

"I see. I’m sorry for questioning you, my lord."

"No. I prefer you guys like this. Ask questions if you do not understand so you can grow."

"Yes!"

Charles nods and looks at the last commander in his army. He is a tall man wearing leather armor and his bow behind him.

"Arthur."

"My lord, what can I do for you?"

"Arthur, I need you and your group to focus on the enemy foot soldiers instead of the one on the wall."

"Are you sure, my lord? Their archers will have a field day if we ignore them."

"I know. However, we did not have the high ground like them. I don’t want your group to get too close to the enemy. Your unit is the one that gets the most damage from them attacking our rear. My personal unit will be on the lookout for their flying unit and make sure not too many mages and archers die before we kill them."

"Of course, my lord."

"I also want you to use your talent."

"Oh? Which person should I kill, my lord?"

Charles points his finger at the tallest tower in the fortress and says.

"Their mages will be in this area, and I want you to kill them. I know your talent has a cooldown, but I want you to try killing as many mages as possible. One of them being dead will be a great boon to us."

"Of course, my lord. What about the new group that comes?"

Arthur points at the group of people wearing magical robes standing around Gwyndolin. Charles thinks for a few seconds and says.

"We don’t know their capabilities. We don’t know if they can block your arrow or not. You should prioritize the one we know. I prefer you have a hundred percent chance of killing their mages than aiming at someone who you have a chance cannot be killed by your arrow."

"I see. Very well. Your order shall be done, my lord."

"Good."

Charles takes a deep breath and gets up from his chair.

"Then let’s win this war and get the glory!"

"YEAH!"

With that, Charles and his commander were ready for war.
