Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Questioned

When the police car arrived at the factory, the troublemakers downstairs were still completely bewildered.

They didn’t understand how such a trivial matter had even gotten the police involved.

The officers themselves were a bit bewildered when they got the call.

When they arrived and saw a crowd of over twenty people gathered there, not working and causing a scene, their expressions immediately hardened.

"Who put you up to causing trouble here? Do you realize you’re breaking the law?" one of the older officers stepped forward and demanded coldly.

None of them had ever been in a situation like this, and they panicked instantly.

One of them pointed at Megan Aldridge and blurted out, "Officer, it wasn’t our idea! It was her! All her! She’s the one who told us Accountant Winslow set up some ’Discipline Committee’ that would get paid by deducting money from our wages. We just got worked up and came to protest to the factory manager."

"It’s working hours right now. Do you have any idea what a loss this is causing the factory? Are you the ringleader?" The older officer, Kevin Aldridge, shot Megan Aldridge a cold glance and questioned her in a harsh tone.

Megan Aldridge’s face went white, and she waved her hands frantically in denial. "No, it wasn’t me! Not me! Officer, I’m innocent! They decided to cause trouble themselves, and they’re the ones who stopped working. I was forced into this!"

"That’s bullshit, Megan Aldridge! Weren’t you the one who kept telling us that Accountant Winslow was fooling around with the men in the workshop? Weren’t you the one who said she created two new positions just to squeeze us out and use our wages to pay them?"

"That’s right, Officer! She instigated the whole thing! We really didn’t mean any harm."

Grace Winslow and the others were on the second floor looking down, watching the dog-eat-dog scene unfold.

When the chaos had reached its peak, Rachel Rhodes suddenly shouted, "Accountant Winslow, please don’t do anything rash! We’ve already investigated everything! It was Megan Aldridge! She wanted to collect a matchmaking fee by setting you up with Pockface from the workshop, but you refused! She flew into a rage from the shame and started spreading these rumors to slander you!"

"The factory won’t let someone like that get away with it! Please, whatever you do, don’t jump!"

Only then did Kevin Aldridge and the others notice the situation on the floor above.

The two officers panicked.

Before Kevin Aldridge could even react, a dark figure shot past them and bolted up the stairs.

Kevin Aldridge froze for a moment, exchanging a glance with the junior officer beside him.

"I think that’s the man from the military," the junior officer whispered.

Kevin Aldridge, getting the picture, detained Megan Aldridge first.

Megan Aldridge wailed hysterically, screaming that she was innocent and had been wronged.

Meanwhile, Grace Winslow was feigning a jump.

She had it all planned out: when she made her fake jump, Rachel Rhodes and Gina Thorne would grab her together and pull her back to safety.

But before Rachel and the others could react, a dark figure rushed up with incredible speed, wrapped an arm around Grace Winslow’s waist, and lifted her straight off the railing.

Grace Winslow: "?"

The moment she was set down, Grace Winslow turned her head and was met with a pair of eyes filled with fury.

Before she could speak, Archer Rhys’s furious voice rang in her ear, "What on earth could be so bad that you have to solve it by hurting yourself?"

"Did you even stop to think about your parents and brothers at home?"

Grace Winslow immediately felt a pang of guilt.

"Um, it’s not what you think, I..."

"Then what is it? Do you realize that even if a jump from here didn’t kill you, you’d end up disabled at the very least? You’re the one who was always telling me to cherish my body, that it’s a gift from our parents that we can’t harm. Is this you practicing what you preach?"

Grace Winslow: "..."

’When did I ever say something like that?’
