Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Having Designs on Grace Winslow

"Starting today, I’m sending you back to the countryside. You will stay there. I’ll hire someone to look after you. I think our second aunt would be a good choice."

Caleb Forrest was expressionless, completely ignoring the look on Cindy Lowell’s face.

Cindy Lowell desperately reached out to grab him, but she missed.

Caleb Forrest was dead set on sending her away.

Grace Winslow didn’t hear about this until three days later.

With Mrs. Sawyer, the neighborhood’s biggest gossip, living next door to Caleb Forrest, basically nothing could be kept secret.

"I heard there’s been a resolution to that incident where Caleb Forrest hit someone. Ivy White chose to forgive him. And since it was basically a domestic dispute, the whole thing was just dropped."

"The factory issued a public reprimand, but there was no real punishment. He’s still the deputy director."

"But, he can kiss any chance of a promotion goodbye."

Grace Winslow had no reaction to this.

Caleb Forrest’s affairs had long since ceased to have anything to do with her.

Her work was going very well these days.

She worked in the office every day and even had time to study.

Grace Winslow was very satisfied with her current situation.

Seeing that Grace Winslow had no reaction, the speaker stole a couple of glances at her, then leaned in closer. "Grace Winslow, you’ve been divorced from Caleb Forrest for over half a month now, right? Have you thought about finding someone new?"

"I happen to know a nice young man. He’s only twenty-seven and has a permanent position at the factory. If you’re interested, I could introduce you two?"

Grace Winslow glanced at her, her smile polite yet distant. "No, thank you. I just got divorced. Now isn’t the right time to be looking for someone."

"What’s not suitable about it? You’re already divorced! The young man doesn’t even mind that you’ve been married before, and he’s still willing to date you. I think you should just hurry up and take the chance! Don’t wait until you’re older, when it won’t be so easy to find someone good. It’ll be his first marriage, you know." The older woman was instantly displeased when she heard Grace’s refusal.

The smile vanished from Grace Winslow’s face. "Ma’am, does your family live by the sea?"

"The sea? What are you talking about?"

"I was just wondering, since you seem to be casting such a wide net. Why are you meddling in my affairs?" Grace’s expression was blank, her tone cold.

The older woman understood at once.

’Grace Winslow was insulting her.’

She was instantly furious.

"What’s with the attitude? At the end of the day, you’re just a woman who was thrown out by her husband. The man I wanted to introduce you to has never even been married or dated anyone! Honestly! If you’re not interested, then fine. Plenty of other women would be."

She walked away, muttering and cursing as she went.

A younger female worker sidled up to her. "Accountant Winslow, you’d better be careful. That’s Auntie Zhao. She has a fiery temper and a vicious tongue. You just made an enemy of her. She’ll definitely start spreading nasty rumors about you around the factory."

"Let’s get back to work," Grace Winslow replied mildly.

Sure enough, by the next day, the factory was buzzing with rumors.

They were all about Grace Winslow: that she was promiscuous, that she was fooling around with various men at the factory.

It got to the point where the wives of several male workers made special trips to warn Grace Winslow.

Grace Winslow wasn’t one to put up with it. She grabbed one of the women and marched her directly to Oscar Osborne’s office.

"Director, I’m here to file a report. Someone in this factory is maliciously spreading rumors, which is creating a disturbance. It’s severely affecting discipline in the workshop, not to mention my personal life. I hope the factory can see that justice is done."

"Furthermore, this woman claims I’m promiscuous and involved with male coworkers. I want her to stand up and explain to my face exactly how I’ve been promiscuous, and which coworkers I’m supposedly involved with."

Oscar Osborne felt a headache coming on as soon as he heard this.

This kind of nonsense happened every day at the factory. If people weren’t gossiping about one person, they were gossiping about another.

But he’d never seen anyone like Grace Winslow, who would escalate the issue to this degree and demand a formal resolution.

He had been about to advise Grace to just let it go, that words couldn’t actually hurt her.

But when he met her gaze, he knew she had absolutely no intention of letting this matter go.
