I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 32: I’m Just a Kind-Hearted Person
"Ms. Callahan, let me borrow your brooch for a second." Grace Winslow pointed directly at the brooch on May Callahan’s chest.
Her work badge was pinned to it.
May Callahan was confused, but she unpinned it and handed it to Grace anyway.
Grace squatted in front of Ivy White, raised her hand, and slapped her hard across the face twice.
Ivy’s already pale face immediately flushed red.
"Grace, you..."
"I’m saving her," Grace said without looking up. She grabbed Ivy’s hand and viciously jabbed the sharp point of the brooch into her fingertip.
"AHH—" Ivy shrieked, sitting up from the floor and reaching out to shove Grace away.
Grace grabbed her by the wrist. "See? You’re awake now. That barefoot doctor’s remedy really works."
Ivy was so furious her chest heaved, and her gaze was laced with venom.
Grace looked at her and smiled. "What’s wrong? It seems Comrade White wasn’t so keen on me saving her. Oh, don’t tell me you faked fainting on purpose to try and shirk your responsibility?"
"But what can you do? I’m just such a kind-hearted person. No need to thank me. Just solve the problem like you’re supposed to."
"You can’t run from your responsibilities."
Ivy absolutely loathed Grace.
’This damn woman!’
’If she hadn’t meddled, none of this would have happened!’
’So what if I stole her job?’
’Is it really necessary to be so relentless?’
"But... but it’s not entirely my fault. No one tried to stop me at the time..."
Even now, Ivy was still trying to shirk the blame.
Five thousand yuan. She couldn’t raise that much money even if she sold herself.
When Jason Dunn died, the family received a death benefit of twelve hundred yuan.
As soon as she got the money, she gave half to her own family. Her mother-in-law snatched the rest, leaving her with only two hundred.
Furious that she had taken the money Jason paid for with his life to subsidize her own parents right after his death, her mother-in-law had originally planned to sell her off to someone in the mountains.
But then, she happened to discover she was pregnant.
This absolutely enraged the Dunn family.
Jason Dunn had left for his military unit the day after their wedding. He hadn’t been back in over a year, and the next news they received was of his death in battle.
Under these circumstances, how could Ivy possibly be pregnant?
Anyone who wasn’t a complete idiot could guess where the baby in her belly came from.
The Dunn family was ready to seize Ivy on the spot and drown her in a pig cage.
Sensing trouble, Ivy secretly ran away.
She went to find her lover, but he avoided her like the plague, shoving five yuan at her and telling her to get lost.
She got a letter of introduction to go back to her parents’ home, but when she arrived, her family threw her out, and she lost the letter in the process.
At the end of her rope, she happened to hear that Caleb Forrest had become the deputy director of the textile factory, and she started getting ideas.
Now, she had managed to hook up with Caleb, but there was no way he would cover this five-thousand-yuan debt for her, no matter how much he liked her. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Ivy covered her face and sobbed.
May Callahan couldn’t take it anymore and snapped, "Shut up! Crying, crying, crying, what good is that? It’s so annoying! You either go get the money back, or you cover the loss yourself. Otherwise, we’re reporting this to the police and letting the officers handle it."
May Callahan’s words made Ivy’s sobs catch in her throat.
She looked pleadingly at Caleb Forrest.
Caleb Forrest’s brows were knitted tightly together.
He instinctively looked over at Grace Winslow.
In their past life, Grace had been willing to stand by him through thick and thin, even borrowing two thousand yuan from her family to cover this shortfall for Ivy.
But in this life?
That was just a pipe dream. She would sooner see the two of them drop dead.
