Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Divorce (2)

"The finance department?" Grace Winslow couldn’t help but frown.

She had fought for that job for a long time. It took two months of hard work before she finally secured it.

If it weren’t for this business with Ivy White, she would have started work this week.

However, in her previous life, when Ivy White arrived, Caleb Forrest had used the excuse that the elders at home needed someone to look after them. He’d also pointed out that Ivy had brought a young child with her and asked Grace to help care for the kid. And so, he gave the job to Ivy White.

She never expected that in this life, Caleb Forrest would still dare to just hand her job over to someone else.

Even if she didn’t care about the job, she wasn’t about to let Ivy White get off scot-free.

"Dad, my brothers, let’s pay a visit to the administration office," Grace Winslow said, her expression cold as she spoke.

"Grace, dear, I believe you. There’s no way you ran off with some shady man. That Caleb Forrest is the one who’s got something going on with that Ivy White, yet he still has the nerve to slander your good name."

"But it’s not enough for just one person to believe you. In this day and age, gossip is a terrifying thing."

"These rumors have spread all over the factory now. And if the workers know, that means their families and friends know too. This is no small thing."

"You have to handle this carefully."

Her next-door neighbor, Mrs. Sawyer, was usually on pretty good terms with Grace Winslow.

She lived right next door to Caleb Forrest’s place, and she heard the shameless racket Caleb and Ivy White made every night, clear as day. Everyone knew what was really going on.

It’s just that with some things, even when people know they’re false, they still love to spread them around, and they make them sound so convincing, too.

She was worried Grace wouldn’t be able to handle the gossip and might do something drastic, so she offered a word of caution.

Grace Winslow thanked her and then led Gregory Winslow and her two brothers to the textile factory’s administration building.

The administration building was a small, two-story structure.

Caleb Forrest’s office was on the second floor, as was the finance department.

She led her family straight up to the second floor.

Caleb Forrest was just coming out of his office. He froze when he saw Grace Winslow, then his face hardened. "You still have the nerve to come back?"

"Why shouldn’t I have the nerve? And you, Caleb Forrest, I hear you and Ivy White have been getting quite cozy lately. Have you forgotten we’re not officially divorced yet?"

"Carrying on like this at the factory... aren’t you afraid someone will report you?"

"If word of this gets to your boss..."

Grace Winslow gave a cold smile, not holding back in the slightest.

"What nonsense are you spouting? There’s nothing going on between Ivy White and me. While you were away, she was the one who came over to help take care of our mom. It’s bad enough that you’re not grateful, but how can you be so malicious as to drag her name through the mud?"

"Don’t you have any idea how vicious rumors like that can be for a woman?"

"How is she supposed to go on with her life?"

Hearing this, Caleb Forrest’s expression darkened. A flicker of guilt crossed his face, and his voice grew shrill.

"I’m not here for you today. Move." Grace Winslow couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath on him.

’She had to get justice for herself regarding the job.’

’That Ivy White never even finished elementary school. Her math skills were abysmal.’

’In her previous life, she’d only been on the job for three days before she caused a huge disaster, making the factory lose a payment of five thousand yuan.’

’To fix it, Caleb Forrest had to beg and borrow from everyone he could, going deep into debt to cover for her.’

’If she wasn’t mistaken, the incident had already happened. The factory just hadn’t found out yet because it wasn’t time to settle the accounts at the end of the month.’

’She absolutely would not hand over the job she had worked so hard to get to Ivy White.’ 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"What are you trying to stir up now? Haven’t you caused enough of a scene? If you want to fight, let’s take it home. Why did you have to bring so many people? Grace, what the hell are you trying to do?" Caleb Forrest glanced around nervously and lowered his voice, but his eyes blazed with anger.

"I was originally here to talk to you about the divorce. But now..."

"...there’s something more important." A smile touched Grace Winslow’s lips. She shoved the blockading Caleb Forrest aside, walked right past him, and headed for the factory director’s office.
