Chapter 62: Chapter 62: A Strong Opponent

Adrian Quincy rolled up the clothes and said in a deep voice, "They’re too old. I’ll take them and throw them out for you. Go buy yourself some new clothes tomorrow."

Claire Sinclair: "..."

For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to say it was a shameful waste.

Because the pile of clothes really was a bit old...

Adrian Quincy said nothing more. He turned, left, and thoughtfully closed the door behind him.

Claire Sinclair closed her eyes, an incredible sense of peace washing over her.

「The next morning.」

When Claire Sinclair woke up, she found a black-and-white paneled chiffon dress laid out on her bed. It was a professional style, yet not the least bit frumpy.

’Did Adrian Quincy buy this dress for me?’

Claire Sinclair climbed out of bed, grabbed her phone from the nightstand, and sent him a text: Mr. Quincy, did you buy the dress that was on my bed?

After waiting for nearly five minutes, she received a reply: Yes.

A charming smile graced Claire Sinclair’s lips. ’I never expected him to have such a thoughtful side...’

’I have to do my best in the interview today, no matter what. I can’t let him down.’

Feeling fully energized, Claire Sinclair washed up, changed into her new dress, gathered her interview materials, and headed out with her small bag.

...

The Astoria Daily Press was located near the busiest central plaza in Aethelgard, surrounded by towering skyscrapers. Every building was a landmark in its own right, but the most commanding structure of all was unquestionably Astoria Tower.

Astoria Tower’s design was inspired by a camera and a microphone. The television station on the left was the camera, while the press building on the right was the microphone. The two towers complemented each other, creating a striking feature on the Aethelgard skyline.

Claire Sinclair never would have dreamed she’d be lucky enough to interview at a place like this. Even if she was just going through the motions, it was an experience she could brag about for years.

When Claire Sinclair arrived at the interview area, the waiting room was already filled with other candidates. They were all young women around her age, and all of them were quite attractive.

A few of the women were gathered together, chatting excitedly about something. They glanced over when Claire Sinclair came in, but quickly averted their gaze.

Claire Sinclair had a touch of social anxiety and didn’t dare make too much eye contact, so she sat down alone in a corner.

The women were speaking loudly and quite brazenly.

"That girl who just walked in, coming to an interview at Astoria Daily without any makeup on. Does she think she’s that pretty? Heh heh..."

"If *she’s* considered pretty, then what does that make us?"

"Shh, not so loud! She’ll hear you."

At that, the women snickered.

Just then, another young woman entered. She had wavy, waist-length hair and was wearing light makeup and a little white dress. She had the air of a high-society lady and looked incredibly confident.

The women who had just been chatting away all looked stunned when they saw her.

"I’m not seeing things, am I? That looks like Phoebe Lockwood!"

"Phoebe Lockwood who?"

"Phoebe Lockwood, the campus belle from the University of Aethelgard! Her father’s the governor!"

"You’re kidding! Our competition is fierce!"

"If Phoebe Lockwood is interviewing, we’re definitely going to get cut. They’re only hiring two reporters this time..."

Phoebe Lockwood walked in with an air of utter disdain for everyone else. She took a seat closest to the door, her expression one of extreme arrogance.

Just then, a woman wearing an employee badge appeared at the door. "Looks like everyone’s here. I’ll introduce myself—my name is Holloway. When I call your name, you’ll come with me for your interview. Fiona Carson."

"Th-that’s me! I’m Fiona Carson."

Fiona Carson shot up from her seat, pleasantly surprised, and followed Holloway out.
