I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 189: The Beast Awakening Mark
"Calen!" Roxanna called softly as she held his hands tightly.
Calen’s chest rose and fell rapidly as he struggled to catch his breath. His eyes were still unfocused, as if his mind had not fully returned yet. For a few seconds, he simply stared upward, blinking again and again.
"Roxanna...?" he finally murmured, his voice hoarse.
"Yes, it’s me." Roxanna leaned closer, still holding his hands. "You’re safe now."
Hearing her voice seemed to pull him back to reality. Calen slowly turned his head and looked at her. When his eyes finally focused on her face, something in his expression softened.
"You..." His fingers tightened slightly around her hands. "You’re really here."
"Of course I am." Roxanna smiled gently, though her eyes were still a little red. "Where else would I go?"
For a moment, Calen didn’t say anything. He simply stared at her, as if he was making sure that he had truly returned to the real world.
Then, without warning, he suddenly pulled her closer. Roxanna let out a small surprised sound when Calen wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly against his chest.
"I thought..." Calen’s voice trembled slightly. "I thought I would never be able to hold you in the real world again."
Roxanna didn’t say anything, but she hugged him even tighter and buried her face in Calen’s chest. Everything felt so peaceful until Roxanna suddenly noticed something strange on his chest.
"Calen, what’s this?" Roxanna lifted her head from his chest to look at the thing that had caught her attention. Her fingers ran slowly across his chest.
Right over the center of Calen’s chest was a strange symbol. It looked like a dark silver mark shaped like a wolf’s head, surrounded by curved lines that resembled flames or wind. The mark was faint, but it could still be seen clearly from up close.
Roxanna stared at it in shock. "This... wasn’t here before."
Calen lowered his head to look at it as well. His brows slowly knitted together. "I don’t remember getting something like this."
"Aelin, do you know something about this?" Roxanna quickly turned to look at Aelin.
Aelin still looked pale, either because her heart was still filled with anxiety from earlier or because she was exhausted.
Even so, Aelin stepped closer and studied the symbol carefully. Her eyes widened slightly.
"That mark..." she murmured.
Luan crossed his arms and leaned in. "Don’t tell me that’s some kind of curse."
"No," Aelin said quietly, shaking her head. "It’s not a curse."
Her gaze shifted to Calen. "It’s a beast awakening mark."
"A beast awakening mark?" Roxanna repeated, her voice filled with confusion. Then she remembered Mr. Fenrir’s remark that Calen would become different once he woke up.
"Yes. It seems my guess about him was correct," Aelin said as she looked at Calen. "You carry the bloodline of a mystical beast in your body. Since the mystical beast within you has awakened, you will be able to use its power." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She paused for a moment before adding in a serious tone, "However, it would be better if we keep this a secret from outsiders. A mystical beast’s bloodline is extremely rare."
Just like the reindeer beastkins who were hunted because of their blood, Calen could also become a target. If other tribes discovered the truth, many of them might try to capture him and use him as their strongest weapon.
[I won’t let anyone touch my Calen or make him suffer!] Roxanna vowed silently in her heart. [If someone tries to take him away from me again, I will... I will bite their heads off!]
Calen pressed his lips into a thin line. Even though her thoughts were full of anger, Roxanna still sounded strangely adorable, especially because her fox ears had been twitching slightly the whole time.
Calen lowered his gaze, trying to hide the faint smile forming at the corner of his lips.
Even when she was threatening to bite someone’s head off, Roxanna still sounded more like a small, angry fox than a dangerous beast.
Her ears twitched again, and Calen couldn’t help it. He reached out and gently touched one of them.
Roxanna immediately froze. "H-Hey!" she protested, quickly covering her ears with both hands. Her face turned slightly red. "Don’t touch them!"
"Cough... cough..." Zeir suddenly cleared his throat before the others could also reach out and touch Roxanna’s fox ears.
"I know everyone is tired and hungry after everything we’ve just been through," he said calmly. "So why don’t we eat first? After that, we can talk more about what happened to Calen."
The moment he said that, Roxanna’s stomach growled loudly. Even though she had cooked a lot of food for Aelin earlier, she hadn’t eaten anything yet. On top of that, the constant anxiety she felt inside Calen’s unconscious mind had made her even hungrier.
"I’m sorry..." Roxanna muttered shyly as she held her stomach. Her cheeks slowly turned red.
Azul bent down beside her and gently placed his hand on her belly.
"My baby must be hungry too," he said softly while speaking to the child still growing inside her womb. It was almost a miracle that the baby was still safe, even though Roxanna had faced so many dangers and had even been pierced by a sharp rock back in the Golden Mountain.
At that moment, Aelin—who had been looking paler and paler—suddenly swayed to the side. "I just... need some sleep," she murmured weakly.
Then her body collapsed onto the ground.
"Aelin!" Roxanna rushed toward her. She was about to shake her body, but then realized that Aelin was really just sleeping.
"We can let her rest in the bedroom," Luan said. "I’ll carry her there."
Roxanna suddenly frowned and puffed her cheeks. [Why does he always want to be near Aelin?] she complained in her mind. [He already rode a horse with her the whole way here.]
Luan froze because he didn’t expect her to still have that kind of suspicion even now. He slowly stepped away from Aelin and then said, "Or... Zeir can take her there."
