I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 182: The Soul That Followed Her Across Worlds (1)
"He even locked Mr. Fenrir inside a small cage," Roxanna said quietly, her heart feeling heavy. "And whenever Mr. Fenrir refused to follow his orders... Leon wouldn’t give him any food."
To be honest, Roxanna wasn’t even sure whether the Mr. Fenrir in her memories was the same as the Mr. Fenrir in front of her now. But if she only looked at their appearance, they looked exactly the same.
The only difference between them was that the current Mr. Fenrir could transform into the real giant Fenrir.
"No, wait... he didn’t just refuse to feed him," Roxanna murmured. "He also shocked him with an electric rod every hour."
The moment those memories surfaced, Roxanna’s legs suddenly felt weak. She slowly crouched down on the floor, her body trembling. "It was my fault."
She covered her mouth with her hand as tears slipped down her cheeks. She had never realized that her mind had buried such painful memories so deeply.
"Woof! Woof!"
Mr. Fenrir barked and rushed toward her. He nudged her cheek with his snout and gently licked away her tears, as if trying to tell her that she didn’t have to blame herself for what had happened in the past.
Roxanna lifted her head and looked at him with tearful eyes. In a soft voice, she asked, "Are you really the Mr. Fenrir I met in my world?"
"Woof! Woof!"
Mr. Fenrir moved his head up and down in response to her question. When Roxanna saw that, her crying grew even louder, and she couldn’t hold back her sobs anymore.
"I-I’m so sorry," she said between her sobs.
The reason she had forgotten about Mr. Fenrir all this time was because the dog had not stayed in the shelter for very long. If she remembered correctly, he had only been there for about a month.
Leon had tried his best to train Mr. Fenrir into a vicious dog, but the dog’s heart was simply too kind to bite a human, especially someone who had once reached out their hand to feed him.
Unfortunately, Leon was not the type of person who would keep an animal that refused to obey him. So in the end, he gave Mr. Fenrir one last chance to prove whether he deserved to live or not.
And of course, Mr. Fenrir chose to be beaten to death rather than bite her or bark at her like an angry dog.
"Don’t say sorry," Calen suddenly spoke up. He also crouched down in front of her and looked at her with a very gentle gaze. "It was... ’my’ choice."
Roxanna froze when she heard the way Calen stressed those last words. Her eyes moved between Calen and Mr. Fenrir, and at that moment, she finally remembered something important: she was still inside Calen’s unconscious mind and Mr. Fenrir was a part of him.
Did that mean Calen was Mr. Fenrir? The dog who had chosen to die rather than bite her hand?
But... it didn’t make sense. The timeline didn’t make sense.
Calen had been born in the Beast World a long time ago and as far as she knew, he wasn’t a transmigrator like her.
[Time does not move in a straight line, Host.] The system’s voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
[Just like how you entered the body of the evil Roxanna in the primitive era, other people can also be born in this world at different points in time. Some may arrive twenty years earlier than you or even a hundred years earlier.]
Roxanna fell silent for a moment. In the end, the whole thing sounded somewhat reasonable—no, actually, it was still a little strange. How could a dog turn into a human?
[An animal’s soul can be reborn as a human if it gathers enough spiritual energy during its lifetime,] the system explained calmly. [But cases like that are very rare.]
Roxanna frowned slightly as she listened.
[Most animals will simply return to the natural cycle after death. However, some rare ones—especially those with strong emotions, loyalty, or unfinished wishes—can accumulate enough spiritual power to be reborn in a higher form.]
[In Mr. Fenrir’s case, the opportunity became even greater because of the special laws of the Beast World.]
Roxanna swallowed quietly. [So... you’re saying that Calen used to be Mr. Fenrir?]
[Not exactly,] the system replied. [Mr. Fenrir’s soul was reborn in this world and later became Calen. In other words, Calen is the continuation of that soul.]
Roxanna lowered her head slightly as those words slowly sank in. When she lifted her head again to look at Calen, fresh tears were already sliding down her cheeks.
"Did you know about this all along?" she asked softly.
Calen slowly shook his head. "No." After a short pause, he added quietly, "I just... know it because Mr. Fenrir told me about it."
For some reason, Calen’s heart also felt painfully heavy. The feeling was so strong that both he and Roxanna ended up kneeling on the cold floor without realizing it.
At that moment, Roxanna suddenly realized that something in Calen’s words sounded strange.
"What?" she asked, confused. "Mr. Fenrir told you? How?"
As far as she knew, Mr. Fenrir could only bark like a normal dog. So how could the two of them possibly talk to each other?
"Through our minds." Calen tapped his head a few times. "He said that since we share the same soul, we can communicate through our thoughts."
Calen’s voice grew quieter. "But he also said that... he wasn’t a good dog."
He lowered his head so much that Roxanna almost thought he was about to press his face against the floor. "Or maybe... it’s better to say that I’m not a good person."
Roxanna frowned. She gently cupped Calen’s cheeks and lifted his face so he would look at her. "Why do you think that?" she asked softly.
Calen’s brows tightened as his eyes slowly filled with tears. For a long time, he didn’t say anything. He could only stare at Roxanna with a gaze full of guilt.
"I was there when your ex-husband hurt you," Calen finally said, his voice trembling. "But I couldn’t do anything."
His fingers slowly curled into fists. "I failed as a dog, and if I let you stay trapped here forever..." His voice became even softer. "Then wouldn’t that mean I’ve also failed as your husband as well?"
