I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 181: The Friendly Dog (2)
The moment Roxanna followed Calen into the shelter, a sudden flood of memories rushed into her mind.
She clearly remembered how things used to be here.
Back then, she always had to place her fingerprints on the door at the end of the stairs to open it. But now the door was already wide open, so she didn’t need to do that anymore.
"My ex-husband... once cut off my fingers, so I couldn’t use my fingerprints anymore," Roxanna said softly. She looked at the door with heavy eyes. "Then he used my fingers to open the doors and change the locks."
In truth, he didn’t need to cut them off. He could have simply peeled her fingerprints from her skin, but Leon had chosen to chop them off instead.
At that point, Roxanna was certain that her ex-husband hadn’t done it because he needed her fingerprints, but he had done it because he wanted to hurt her.
"You’re safe now," Azul said softly. He tightened his hold on her hands and gently brushed his fingers over each of hers, as if he wanted to comfort the pain she once felt. "No one will ever cut your fingers again."
When they finally entered the underground shelter, the first thing that caught Roxanna’s attention was the pile of dog food sacks in the corner of the room.
They were covered in dust, showing that no one had touched them for a long time. Yet, for some reason, out of all the things in the shelter, Roxanna’s eyes were immediately drawn to them.
It was strange.
Was this world intentionally showing the dog food to her? But why?
Everything else around her seemed a little blurry. Even the paths leading to other parts of the shelter didn’t look clear. In the end, Roxanna slowly walked toward the dog food.
With every step she took, small pieces of memory about the dog began to return to her mind.
"I remember the dog," Roxanna suddenly said as she stopped walking.
Her eyes widened, and she stared ahead without blinking for several seconds.
"It... it wasn’t just a dog," she continued quietly. "It was a guard dog."
She slowly turned her head toward Mr. Fenrir.
"He looked like you..." Roxanna held her breath. The dog in her memory truly looked very similar to Mr. Fenrir, almost as if the image had been hidden deep inside Calen’s unconscious mind. "Even the name... I called him Mr. Fenrir too."
Just a few days before they entered the shelter, Leon had brought a big black dog home. He told Roxanna that he had found it on the street and felt sorry for it, so he decided to bring it home.
At first, Roxanna thought it was strange.
As far as she remembered, her ex-husband didn’t like animals at all. In fact, he had even thrown away her cats before.
And more than that, the "pitiful" dog he brought home didn’t look pitiful at all. Its body was strong and healthy. It didn’t look like a stray dog that had been suffering on the streets.
Even so, Roxanna still decided to let the dog stay in the house. She even gave him the name Mr. Fenrir because he reminded her of a mythical creature she had once seen in a movie.
Despite his large body, sharp fangs, and scary face, Mr. Fenrir was actually a very sweet dog.
He loved lying on the floor and letting Roxanna rub his belly. Whenever she gave him a treat, he would wag his tail happily and lick her hands like an excited puppy.
Since Mr. Fenrir was such a sweet dog, Roxanna decided to bring him into the shelter as well. She had even bought a lot of dog food just two days earlier.
"Mr. Fenrir was such a sweet dog..." Roxanna whispered. She stood frozen in place. Before she realized it, tears were already sliding down her cheeks.
"He was so sweet... and so adorable..." her voice trembled. "But... but Leon..."
Her hands slowly tightened. "He turned Mr. Fenrir into a vicious dog."
Roxanna suddenly began walking toward the dog food in front of her. Her breathing turned uneven the moment she noticed something lying on the floor.
Not far from the sacks of food, there was a shock collar and next to it lay a metal rod that was connected to electricity.
"Leon didn’t bring Mr. Fenrir home because he felt sorry for him..." Roxanna said with difficulty. She swallowed hard, trying to steady her voice. "He brought him because... he wanted to turn Mr. Fenrir into a guard dog, so he could control me."
Roxanna held her head as the memories about the dog kept rushing into her mind. She began walking in circles while mumbling,
"H-He told Mr. Fenrir to bite off my fingers..." her voice shook. "B-But Mr. Fenrir didn’t want to do it..." Tears started to gather in her eyes. "So Leon... shocked him with the collar."
It turned out that the dog Leon brought home was a failed trained dog. He adopted it from a shelter and thought that he might be able to command it to threaten Roxanna later.
But he didn’t realize that the reason Mr. Fenrir failed to become a trained dog was because he was too friendly toward humans.
That was why, every time Leon ordered Mr. Fenrir to hurt Roxanna, the dog always refused. Instead of attacking her, he chose to endure the electric shock.
"M-My ex-husband was a psycho," Roxanna said with a shaky voice. "Even though the dog refused to follow his orders, he still believed he could train the dog better than the professional trainers."
Roxanna finally stopped pacing. Her breathing was still uneven as she slowly lifted her head. Her eyes moved between Mr. Fenrir and Calen, as if she was trying to understand something.
A moment later, her eyes also noticed a smaller dog cage in another corner of the room.
"He even locked Mr. Fenrir inside that small cage," Roxanna said quietly, her heart feeling heavy. "And whenever Mr. Fenrir refused to follow his orders... Leon wouldn’t give him any food."
