Chapter 314: Chapter 314 The Prince of Shadows and the Gentle Gargoyle

Alina carefully opened his notebook. The handwriting was neat and sharp, yet elegant in its simplicity. She smiled faintly and began to read aloud.

"First question—Describe the sky." She read slowly, her tone filled with interest. "The sky is peaceful when it’s blue, but I like it more when it’s dark. It feels quiet then, like the world is resting. Sometimes I think the stars are little lights watching us to make sure we are safe."

Her smile deepened, her heart softening at the quiet wisdom in his words. Such a gentle thought from someone who often hides behind his calm expression, she thought.

She continued to the next question. "Write five words that start with S."

Her eyes moved across the neat list. "Star, Shadow, Silence, Silver, and Sky."

The words were simple, yet every one of them carried a kind of stillness—a calm beauty that reminded her of Lucien himself. He really lives in his own quiet world, she thought. A world full of stars and soft silences.

Finally, she turned to the third question. "Name five animals you know."

Her voice softened as she read his careful answers. "Wolf, Raven, Cat, Dragon... and Bat."

A faint chuckle escaped her lips. Of course, she thought. "Very fitting choices, Lucien," she said warmly, looking at him with genuine fondness. "I can see you thought about each one."

Lucien’s eyes widened a little at the praise. His usual calm expression broke for just a second, replaced by the tiniest, shy smile. He ducked his head slightly, pretending to adjust his pencil, but Alina caught the way his ears turned a little red.

Boo floated up dramatically. "See! Even teacher likes his dark answers! I told you he’s secretly mysterious!"

Drake crossed his arms. "Hmph, I can write dark answers too!"

"Yours will probably catch fire before you finish," Vlad Jr. muttered from behind his book.

The class burst into laughter, and even Lucien’s lips twitched, the corners lifting in quiet amusement.

Alina laughed softly too, shaking her head. "Alright, alright, that’s enough teasing for today." She reached into the cookie box. "Lucien, three cookies for you—and two snacks of your choice."

Lucien stood up gracefully, his small hand reaching for the cookies before he glanced into the snack bag. After a thoughtful moment, he picked a chocolate bar and a small box of milk.

"Thank you, teacher," he said quietly, his voice gentle and sincere.

Alina smiled warmly as he returned to his seat, the sunlight falling softly over his dark hair. So polite, she thought. So composed... just like a little prince of shadows.

"Drake, only three are left—you, me, and Rock!!" Boo said cheerfully, floating in circles above the desks.

Drake groaned dramatically, slumping forward. "Ughhh... I’m last again! The best snacks will be gone!" His eyes darted toward the half-empty bag, as if he could already see his dreams of sweet treats slipping away.

Alina chuckled softly, shaking her head at his exaggerated sulking. "Patience, young dragon," she said kindly before reaching for the next notebook.

The moment she touched it, she smiled. The cover was simple but endearing... small pebbles and tiny hand-drawn pictures of stones with little smiling faces. There was even a sticker shaped like a mountain in the corner.

So adorable, she thought fondly.

"Rocky," she said gently.

The little gargoyle froze. His big blue eyes went wide, and his hands immediately tightened around his pencil. His stone-textured cheeks flushed faintly pink as he whispered, "Y-Yes, teacher..."

Alina’s smile softened. "Don’t worry, sweetheart. Let’s see what you wrote, hmm?"

She opened the notebook carefully, the pages slightly crinkled, as if he had pressed them too hard while writing. His handwriting was large and a little uneven, but it was neat enough to show how hard he’d tried.

"First question—Describe the sky," she began.

Her tone softened as she read aloud. "The sky is big and high. Sometimes it has clouds like soft rocks. When it rains, I like it because the drops sound like pebbles falling. I want to fly one day and sit on a cloud."

A warm laugh bubbled in her chest. Clouds like soft rocks—how cute. She felt her heart swell with affection.

"That’s so sweet, Rocky," she said warmly. "I love how you compared clouds to rocks. You have a wonderful imagination."

Rocky blushed harder, his little hands fiddling with his eraser. "I... I like rocks, teacher. They don’t move fast, but they stay... safe."

Alina’s chest tightened at the innocence in his words. "That’s very true," she said softly. "Rocks are strong and steady—just like you."

She turned the page and continued. "Five words that start with S." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Her smile grew as she read them. "Stone, Sand, Sky, Shell, Shadow."

"Very good, Rocky," she praised. "All your S words are lovely—and all connected to nature too."

Finally, she read the third question. "Five animals you know."

Her voice was gentle as she went down the list. "Bird, Dog, Cat, Fish, and..." She paused, blinking. "...Snail?"

The class burst into soft laughter, and Rocky immediately turned pinker, shrinking slightly in his chair.

Alina quickly waved her hands. "No, no, it’s a good answer! Snails are living beings too and very patient ones!"

Boo giggled, spinning in the air. "Rocky snail! Rocky snail!"

"Boo," Alina warned lightly, trying to suppress her own smile.

"Sorryyy," Boo sang, though he was clearly enjoying himself.

Alina reached for the cookie box with a bright smile. "Three cookies for our brave little gargoyle!" she announced, and the whole class clapped and cheered as Rocky shyly walked up to the desk.

He hesitated before picking, his little stone-textured fingers brushing over the snacks carefully. After a moment, he chose a small packet of crunchy cookies and a milk box.

"Thank you, teacher..." he murmured, his voice so soft that only she heard.

Alina smiled and ruffled his hair gently. "You did wonderfully today, Rocky. I’m proud of you."

As he returned to his seat, hugging his snacks close, the sunlight glinted off his faintly rosy cheeks, and for a second, Alina could swear the little gargoyle almost sparkled.
