I Awakened An Outer God Class-Chapter 39: University Screening [2]
[Inside the Observation Pod]
As the students silently wrote down their answers, a buzzing sound rang inside the glass pod.
A group of five people sat on the sofas, the pod still holding enough space to move around.
Four luxurious tables lay in front of them, filled with many different delicacies along with a file containing the detailed information of each student.
They were the representatives of the Military College, the Obsidian College, the Lotus Institute and the Aegon Imperial University, along with the mayor of the City of Sparrows.
Sitting in the middle sofa was a lady in her early thirties with long bright crimson hair and eyes.
She had high cheekbones, beautiful lips and tanned skin that she had gotten from grandparents who once lived in Berlin Island.
The woman had her legs on the table while she took a sip of her wine.
Ma’am Liliana pursed her lips. "Why is the wine so low quality."
Mayor Axel let out a nervous chuckle. "...They are the best I could provide."
Liliana didn’t reply. Her gaze remained outside where she could see the students.
Though she didn’t seem to have any interest in most of them, her eyes only flickered between Mikhail and Kevin.
On the sofa beside her, an old man with white hair and a wrinkled face sat quietly.
He was retired general Oswald, a member of the Military College.
Oswald couldn’t help but glance at Liliana. In a subdued voice he said.
"The Imperial University seems to favour the King rank a lot." His tone was suggestive. "They even sent their second strongest to recruit him."
Ma’am Liliana glanced at him and said with a smile. "I am not here for him."
That took everyone within the room by surprise, including Mayor Alex.
’...Is she perhaps here for my son?’ He thought, feeling hopeful for Brandon.
Another lady with long black hair and eyes leaned forward. There was a slight burn on her cheek that she tried to hide with her hair.
She was the professor of Obsidian College, Lady Ivy.
"Then who are you here for?" She probed gently.
Ma’am Liliana pointed with her sleek hand. "That boy." She said. "Mikhail Brightburn."
The members of the three colleges paused before they quickly picked up the information file.
’Mikhail....’ Alex was aware of the boy from his son. ’Isn’t he the one Brandon was complaining about?’
He hadn’t given it much thought back then but now Alex felt uneasy.
The first to frown at Mikhail’s information was Professor Asper of the Lotus Institute.
"Why is his class blank?" He asked, glancing at the mayor. "Is there a mistake?"
Alex nervously replied. "I told the school to double check."
"He is allegedly a Tamer of Viscount class." Professor Ivy said softly. "Did he say he was a tamer and the school accepted it without questioning?"
"...."
Alex just stood there without any response.
"This has to be a mistake." Oswald added, putting the file down.
"There is no mistake." Ma’am Liliana said casually. "I saw the record. He got a reaction from the awakening stone but no class."
Lady Ivy frowned, unable to understand. "...Is that possible?"
Oswald, Asper and Alex all looked at Ma’am Liliana expectantly.
She put her legs down and sat back straight, her face gradually turning serious.
"There are only two possibilities." She said, raising two fingers. "One, that the awakening stone malfunctioned, but this can be ruled out as there were students who came after him and it worked perfectly."
She lowered one finger and glanced at the others in the pod.
"Do you know what the highest class the awakening stone can show is?"
Professor Asper of the Lotus Institute, known for their knowledge, immediately replied. "Emperor’s rank."
Ma’am Liliana smiled and put her hand down.
A stunned silence gradually took over the pod as they tried to comprehend her message.
Lady Ivy gasped audibly. "Are you suggesting his class is above Emperor?"
Liliana only gave a short nod, refusing to elaborate.
Oswald’s breathing grew heavy as he thought to himself. ’Is he perhaps an Angel class or God....’
He quickly shook his head, finding it blasphemous to have someone on the same level as a God.
"...How are you going to confirm it, ma’am?" He asked softly.
Liliana touched the black suitcase by her side and mumbled.
"Any class above Emperor class has more than one skill. If he uses any skill that is not present in the public domain, he might be one." She said. "And I also have many other ways."
Just as they were talking, Mikhail stood up and walked towards a teacher.
He handed her his question paper and answer sheet with a smile.
"Is he already done?" Lady Ivy asked in confusion. "There were thirty questions at college level."
Liliana glanced at Mayor Alex. "Bring me his papers."
He nodded and quickly called a staff member who didn’t take long to bring Mikhail’s papers.
Liliana took the papers and began to read while the others leaned in, trying to catch a glimpse.
The more Liliana read his answers, the brighter her smile became.
---
Mikhail, after completing his papers, sat relaxed in one of the seats as he looked at the others writing.
’I wonder how long I have to wait...’
From his perspective, the questions weren’t that hard to answer.
In his previous life as a shut-in keyboard warrior, Mikhail had argued a lot with strangers online.
His previous half-baked knowledge combined with the actual knowledge he had learned in the last two years made him quite sharp.
’...This is boring.’
Having nothing else to do, Mikhail secretly took out Methew from his subspace to play with him.
Mikhail wasn’t worried about someone asking about Methew. He could just say the cat had been roaming around the school.
He grinned and roughly handled the cat in his arms.
Methew gave him an annoyed look but Mikhail didn’t stop messing around.
"Meowtherfucker!"
Methew’s voice echoed within the silent auditorium.
"...."
Everyone turned to glare at Mikhail who lowered his head.
’...Fuck.’
---
The written test lasted for two and a half hours before the papers were taken back.
Kevin wrote until his paper was snatched away and he still had a distressed look on his face.
"Chill out." Mikhail said, patting his shoulder. "The written test won’t matter much for you."
"Fuck you." Kevin grumbled. "I just hope I don’t get a zero."
’What the fuck were you writing?’
Mikhail turned his gaze towards Professor Alan who stood at the stage once again.
"Onto the second test!!" His voice echoed within the auditorium. "It’s quite simple: make a mana ball and keep it in your hand for one hour."
Mikhail turned to look at Kevin who turned to look back at him.
They both smiled at each other and shook hands. "May the best man win."
Kevin replied smugly. "I will win as I got bigger balls."
Mikhail only smiled and didn’t reply.
Professor Alan looked at the time before he declared. "Begin!!"
---
Mikhail and Kevin were the only two who could keep their mana balls up for an hour.
And by a slight margin, Mikhail won in their internal competition.
