I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 689 - 688: Pregnant?! (11)
Lucille Matthias folded her arms. "Sophia, you’re an outsider. What do you think?"
Sophia Thompson closed Vera Wave’s new testimony, which Lucille had handed to her.
"Kris Cooper’s previous statement had many questionable points. Objectively speaking, regardless of who is telling the truth, there are many doubts. From my perspective, it’s possible that what Vera is saying is the truth."
She took a shallow breath. "In the current situation, this development might be more advantageous for us! Nathan Leafcastle and Vera Wave were childhood friends. If Vera is the one in the defendant’s seat, perhaps he might be lenient, which would benefit us."
"We can’t rule out another possibility!" Lucille took a sip from her water glass. "If Nathan Leafcastle’s love for Vera Wave has turned to hate, then he might become even more relentless."
"Then what should we do?!" Bailey Hansen asked.
Just as she finished speaking, Christopher Cooper’s phone rang. After answering and listening for a moment, he put it down.
"What’s wrong?" Bailey Hansen asked.
Christopher Cooper quickly tapped his phone a few times and then handed it to her.
"Vera has made everything public."
The others gathered around, looking at his phone, where a news headline was displayed on the screen:
"Vera Wave Publishes Confession, Admits She Is the Real Culprit."
Below that, there was a screenshot and the content of the confession Vera had posted on her Facebook page.
After a long silence, Sophia Thompson finally spoke again.
"It seems we can only respect her decision."
Now, Vera Wave had made the truth public, announcing to everyone that she was the murderer and stating her intention to turn herself in.
An arrow, once loosed, cannot be recalled. At this point, there was no way for them to reverse the situation.
"That child..." Bailey Hansen raised a hand to her forehead, her voice filled with helplessness. "Why didn’t she discuss this with us?! If Kris Cooper finds out, he’ll definitely go mad!"
"There’s no point in saying these things now." Sophia Thompson stood up. "Since it’s a done deal, let’s focus on getting Kris Cooper out first."
Christopher Cooper put an arm around Bailey Hansen’s shoulder, patting her comfortingly.
"For now, that’s all we can do."
Sophia Thompson looked up at Lucille Matthias, who nodded gently.
"I’ll go make the arrangements."
「The detention center.」
The key slid into the lock, turned gently, and the heavy door swung open.
At the table, Kris Cooper, who was typing on his keyboard, turned his head.
A staff member standing outside the door spoke calmly, "Kris Cooper, pack your things and come with me."
Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow, closed the laptop in front of him, and stood up.
"Your clothes too, all of your belongings!"
"What do you mean?" Kris Cooper asked.
"You’re free."
Kris Cooper was taken aback. His face didn’t show the elation the staff member had expected; he merely asked in confusion, "What’s going on?"
No court hearing, no trial... and he was free?
"I’m not quite sure about the details. Your family is outside. Please hurry."
Ignoring the clothes in the wardrobe, he casually stuffed his laptop into its bag and picked it up.
"Let’s go!"
The staff member looked at him but didn’t say anything more, simply leading him through the corridors. Through the series of locked gates, Kris Cooper could already see Bailey Hansen and the others waiting outside.
As the doors opened one by one, Kris Cooper walked out, bag in hand. Bailey Hansen immediately rushed over and threw her arms around her son.
