The group quickly left Sophia Thompson’s law firm and hurried back to the City Bureau. By the time they arrived at Michael Freenan’s office half an hour later, he had already taken Vera Wave’s new testimony.

"Mom!" Vera stood up. "I’m sorry."

Michael nodded, leading his assistant out of the office.

"It’s true. It was I who pushed the person; Kris was just taking the blame for me. He always refused to admit it because he didn’t want me to be punished." Vera lowered her face. "I’m sorry for causing trouble for everyone."

"Let’s do this," Lucille said, turning to Bailey and the others. "Leave her with me for now. I’ll have my people investigate thoroughly."
