Chapter 491: Chapter 489: Good News (3)

After recuperating at home for another day, Vera Wave finally got Kris Cooper’s permission to return to work at Ashton.

Due to Kate Palmer’s instructions, Merlin Bradley did not make a fuss about Vera Wave’s resignation. Everyone just assumed she took a few days off due to feeling unwell, and nobody paid much attention.

Additionally, with the new project entering a critical phase, everyone was extremely busy and naturally had no time for gossip.

Once Vera Wave returned to work, she quickly got back into the groove, working overtime with everyone, rushing work, and taking practical considerations... After a week of hard work, on Friday morning, they finally came up with a plan that satisfied Kate Palmer.

In the afternoon, Kate Palmer, Vera Wave, and Archie Perkin attended the board meeting together, where the plan received unanimous approval from all the directors, including Kris Cooper.

The news reached the Planning Department, and everyone cheered out loud.

A week of hard work was finally recognized. Everyone was part of the effort, and now that the project was approved, it was naturally a credit to every single person in the department.

While everyone was still cheering and inspired, Kate Palmer walked in.

"Ahem, is everyone so idle here?"

Seeing her, the crowd immediately restrained their excitement, afraid of being scolded. Wang Xiaya and the others hurriedly rushed back to their seats.

"Since all of you seem to be so free..." Kate Palmer glanced around at everyone, "How about we have a secret ballot election?"

"Elect for what?" Wang Xiaya asked.

"It’s definitely for the manager!" Merlin Bradley said.

"Exactly!" Kate Palmer nodded, smiling. "Just as a country cannot be without its leader, neither can the Planning Department. Let’s practice some democracy and hold a big election today to elect the Planning Department Manager you all respect the most."

"Who are the candidates?!"

"Everyone present here is a candidate."

"So can we vote for ourselves?" a staff member joked, smiling.

"Of course you can." Kate Palmer said in a rarely gentle tone, "If you think you have the ability, you can campaign for votes too."

She took a pen holder off a staff member’s desk, shook the pens out of it, and placed it on the table for everyone to see.

"Alright, everyone think it over, then write down the name of the person you respect most on a slip of paper and put it in here. In half an hour, I’ll check the votes."

Kate Palmer turned to leave, and everyone looked at the pen holder, a bit surprised.

"Seriously?!"

"Seems like it!"

"What are we waiting for, let’s vote!"

...

So everyone returned to their seats, took out slips of paper, and began writing names.

Seeing this, Vera Wave borrowed paper and pen from Merlin Bradley, wrote a name, and dropped it into the pen holder.

Archie Perkin also returned to the office and shortly came over with a folded slip of paper, which he placed into the pen holder.

Half an hour later, Kate Palmer arrived on time.

"Xiaya, you read the votes, Merlin, you tally them!"

The two immediately started, one reading, the other recording.

"Archie Perkin!"

"Vera Wave!"

...

The slips were nothing more than these two names. Although Kate Palmer didn’t specify selecting between them, everyone genuinely acknowledged the capabilities of these two.

"Archie Perkin, twelve votes. Vera Wave, twelve votes!" Merlin Bradley looked at the tally on the notebook, "Director Lin, what do we do about the tie?"

"That’s not right!" Ruben Campbell walked over, "Our Planning Department should have twenty-five people, there should be twenty-five votes in total."
