Chapter 656: Chapter 654: The Appearance of Humans

Two months later.

Lin Yan entered the cityscape of the White King’s dreamworld once again.

She lay on her yoga mat, connecting with the White King’s dream with the help of Professor Li Xianping and his team.

It was a separation and remolding of spirit and flesh, a heavy burden for Lin Yan.

Her vision darkened for less than a second before she felt a sense of detachment, like the sensation of falling fast in a dream. Then, with a loud clang, she abruptly appeared on a bustling street.

People’s voices filled the air around her, a familiar scene that looked like a replica of the Sethiyan Federation. This was Golden Avenue; to the left was Georgetown Central Park, and to the right, towering white buildings, the headquarters of the United Council. Behind her, the display screens of Time Square were just peeking out from the top of a golden hotel. The street was alive with people and traffic; if she didn’t know that this was a state created by Illusion Creation, it would be hard to discern real from fake.

In those two months, Lin Yan thought of a way to quickly help the White King understand the most basic elements of the human world—by looking at the news and pictures. Currently, they had no way of allowing the White King to venture out for field studies and, besides most of the world’s population had probably been transferred to Heisai State, so there wasn’t much to see.

But the news and pictures still preserved dribs and drabs of human society’s past. Even though it was the 22nd century, paper media remained a backup means of transferring information for humanity, and thus hadn’t been eradicated by the wave of digitization. Adventure groups made up of refugees braved risks to collect vast amounts of newspapers, magazines, and all sorts of novels—any written and pictorial material they could find, even promotional flyers for various products, were hauled back in bulging bundles. The libraries in the city were emptied out.

The White King’s language and literacy acquisition were astoundingly rapid. Just last week, it had already begun to speak quite like a regular human. In the time that followed, the White King went through all the materials the adventure groups had brought back. Thus, when it reentered the dream, it was able to construct an incredibly lifelike Sethiyan Federation, far more authentic than the small nation of East Continent it previously depicted.

As Lin Yan strolled down the streets, for some reason, her eyes filled with hot tears because this was an everyday life that couldn’t be returned to. Divine Power Tianyang had completely changed this world, and even if they eventually dealt with him, this world could not go back to the way it was.

The street was extraordinary lively. She took a close look at the faces of passers-by, but couldn’t spot any flaws. Quite satisfied in her heart, she wiped away her tears with her sleeve, collected her emotions, and decided to stay here a little longer.

At that moment, a commotion arose on the street, followed by two gunshots.

Lin Yan frowned and looked in the direction of the gunshots, only to see two men wearing masks and caps, holding pistols as they fled in panic. On the street, a woman lay in a pool of blood.

"Ah... you are..." Lin Yan pressed her forehead, originally wanting to scold the White King, but on second thought, this indeed was the kind of incident that could happen in the Federation. Even in this fictional world, crime had to exist, or it certainly wouldn’t feel real.

Lin Yan sighed. All she could do was watch as patrol officers blew their whistles and gave chase to the criminals, and this disturbance ended at the next street corner.

Police cars sped by, and this street conflict lasted less than five minutes. Ambulances stopped at the curb, and medical personnel carried the body onto a stretcher, leaving splotches of blood on the ground.

Soon the crowd covered those blood stains, stepping over them, turning the bright red splotches into inconspicuous black marks on the ground.

Lin Yan had nothing to say, suddenly inspired to see how many functions of this fictional city were actually operational. She walked down the stairs at the side of the street, arriving at a subway station. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

The narrow corridor, the yellowing walls, and the low ceiling that you could hit with a raised foot reminded her of her days as a student in West Soil, where the Libitelli subway stations were just as cramped.

As soon as she descended underground, the air became hot and stifling, and the place was especially crowded. Under normal circumstances, the experience of riding the subway would surely annoy her, but now, the emotions in her heart were inexplicably complex, and the noisy sounds around her ears became somewhat pleasing.

It took her a few minutes to observe the people coming and going—elders and youngsters alike, all appearing to act naturally—mothers with children, couples chatting, slow-moving elderly people, and staff weaving through the crowd. Yes, that was exactly it!

After waiting for more than half an hour, Lin Yan wasn’t the least bit impatient. When the subway finally slowly pulled into the station, she followed the flow of people into the crowded carriage and found a corner to stand in.

At that moment, the subway broadcast was playing an announcement about a delay. It was supposed to be a minor issue, but after listening carefully, Lin Yan realized something was seriously amiss...

"... The Subway Service Center of Newton City informs you that a terrorist attack has occurred at the Folfox station. Part of the subway tracks have been destroyed, and we are currently repairing them. The station has been sealed off, and we ask passengers who wish to go to Folfox Station to transfer at the next stop..."

Lin Yan felt a headache coming on; she glanced at the little girl sitting opposite her, who had beautiful blonde hair and exceptionally charming blue eyes.

"Lady, are you going to Folfox Park?" the girl asked with a smile.

Lin Yan paused for a moment and then smiled, "I... Yes, I’m going there too."

"Are you going to meet your family?" the girl asked with another smile.

Lin Yan thought of her parents and her classmates and colleagues, a wave of melancholy washing over her. Just then, the train arrived at a station, and as the little girl was led by her mother toward the door she said, "Hurry! We’re at the stop! We can get off together!"

Lin Yan shook her head and said, "I’ve changed my mind."

With that, the girl’s mother turned around and gave Lin Yan a look filled with wariness; it seemed she had mistaken her for a bad person.

The subway doors clanged shut and Lin Yan took a deep breath. At that moment, a long-haired man wearing a ski cap leaned over, his back toward her.

This world seemed very real, yet permeated with a lot of unfriendliness. And in less than two hours, there had already been a street murder and a terrorist attack—it was too abnormal.

While Lin Yan was still pondering, she suddenly felt someone touch her thigh. Turning to look, she saw the man wearing the ski cap, his hand thrust into his pocket and then, through her pants, rubbing against her.

"What the hell are you doing?" Lin Yan said.

"Oh~ I was just fantasizing about how to fuck you," the man lewdly replied with a smile.

Lin Yan raised her hand and slapped the man, then huffily left the fabricated world.

She sat up from the yoga mat and peeled off the patches stuck to her chest and temples.
