Chapter 79: How sure are you? - She said it herself

Steve stared up at his ceiling, lying silently on his bed. He went to bed really late but still ended up waking up too early. He didn’t know if his insomnia was because he was worried about the current situation his friend was in and a bit anxious.

He was definitely worried and thus, couldn’t sleep. Every other person was probably asleep but to be sure everything was alright, he decided to check on them.

"I’ll just check on them real quick and do some work." He told himself and got down from the bed.

This private facility was built with Raymond’s help. It was legal and certified but it wasn’t open to the public. You could say it was Raymond’s private hospital.

He wore a T-shirt, picked up a jacket and slowly walked towards the ward Ariel and Raymond were.

The day was still a bit dark and the sun was gradually rising. Six o’clock to be precise.

As soon as Steve got to the door, he heard moaning sounds coming from the inside and he paused.

’It’s not what I think it is, right?’ He thought in disbelief and his eyes widened.

Through the glass on the door, he could see what was going on and his face flushed in both anger and embarrassment.

He knew he said Raymond should give in to his rising feelings but to do this here and at such a time and such a place... He couldn’t help but wonder how long they were at it.

No, he shook his head. How could they do that while she was in such a condition?

As much as he wanted to barge in and preach some sense into Raymond’s head, he wanted to save himself from a secondhand embarrassment.

’So unbelievable.’ He thought and backed the door. He sighed and looked up at the ceiling.

He had come a long way with Raymond. He knew how much he suffered and how much he had to watch his back, fearing for any form of betrayal.

He knew he suffered so all he wanted was for Raymond to finally be happy.

"Still, is he a beast in heat? Can’t he leave her be, even now?" He shook his head and decided to get some work done in the meantime.

A few hours later, Steve returned and found them both sleeping peacefully on the bed. Though peaceful, he couldn’t help but feel angry that they did that even in Ariel’s condition.

Raymond slowly opened his eyes and beheld a furious Steve, staring down at him with blazing eyes and folded arms.

"Let’s talk." He simply said and walked out.

Raymond kept silent and looked at Ariel in his arms. Her breathing was steady and all the bruises he could see were the ones he had inflicted after replacing the old. Proud with his action, he smiled.

He finally got to embrace her and hold her. Her expressions throughout the session were deeply engraved in his head.

Suddenly, he felt fiery glares being shot at him from the door. It was Steve.

Raymond slowly got down from the bed while trying not to wake Ariel up, put on some pants and walked out the room, glancing back at her once more before closing the door.

"What were you thinking?" Steve attacked him with words. "Couldn’t you just keep your beastly self in your pants for the meantime? At least till she gets better?"

Raymond stayed silent. He didn’t want to make an excuse for his act because he knew it was also wrong of him. He should’ve thought better but he let his desire to possess her control him.

Steve felt ticked by his silence.

"Say something." He said.

"There’s nothing to say," Raymond said. "I did that to her even while knowing she was badly hurt. I was in the wrong."

Steve was speechless. He blinked and adjusted his glasses while clearing his throat. This type of Raymond, he still couldn’t get used to it.

"Well, did you talk about it with her?" Steve asked, referring to when he asked him to hear Ariel’s opinion before making up his mind.

Raymond nodded and glanced into the room.

"She wants to stay with me." He said, his expression gradually softening in delight. "She said, she won’t be able to live without me."

"I see." Steve said and observed Raymond’s eyes as he stared into Ariel’s ward. He was right that Raymond liked Ariel. And as for Ariel... He couldn’t tell if she was with Raymond because he was her life savior, or if she was just responding to Raymond’s feelings positively to avoid growing awkward with each other.

Truly, it confused him. He wanted to just conclude that Ariel liked Raymond too but she was a complicated girl. As simple as her expression showed on her face, she could also neatly keep in unknown feelings.

"Do you know if..." He began and Raymond turned his gaze to him. "Do you know if Ariel has feelings for you? Does she have plans to enter such a relationship with you?"

Raymond darted his eyes aside a bit sadly and shook his head.

"How sure are you?" Steve asked.

"She said it herself." Raymond said, his eyes turning a bit heavy. "She won’t try to win my heart because she’s not confident and what she wants from me is just a physical relationship."

"That is..." Raymond nodded.

"Yes. She wants us to retain a relationship with our bodies at best. That way, no one will get hurt."

Steve felt a drop of sweat roll down the side of his forehead. This was a bit hard. Raymond knew he had feelings for Ariel but for Ariel, she just wanted to have a physical relationship. Was that okay with him?

"Are you okay with that?" He found himself asking.

"For now, I am." Raymond answered and smiled. "I’m going out for a while. Please take care of her for me." With that, he walked away, leaving Steve to dwell on his first words.

"For now?"

Raymond knew that with time, his feelings would keep growing. And if these feelings he had for Ariel continued growing then he would definitely start wanting for more.

He decided to let it be for the meantime. Because once that time came, he would cross the bridge one way or the other. For now, he was okay with being lovers with no strings attached.

Well yes, there were strings attached and all but the kind of strings which had to do with life commitment and future plans, they didn’t have that.

Raymond took out his phone and called White. There were still unfinished matters he had to attend to.

Outside, White waited on standby with some of the guards. He had his hands behind him as he stood at attention, ready for any order that would be given to him.

White had made sure, when leaving the Stein’s manor, to delete the CCTV clip that had him in it. He didn’t want to be perceived as suspicious by Raymond because that would just make all his efforts so far turn to naught.

Raymond glanced briefly at White, no words said to the other and entered the car.

"To the Stein’s manor." Raymond said and everyone took heed to his order. ’I have to finish this before Ariel wakes up.’ He thought.

While on their way to the Stein’s, Paige called Raymond.

"What is it?" Raymond asked outrightly after hearing her voice.

"How is she?" Paige asked.

"She’s recovering." Raymond responded. "Also, I’d like to thank you for your help."

"I didn’t do it for you." Paige said and as if he expected such a responsible, Raymond responded,

"I know that."

They both fell into a little silence, like they were unable to bring up a topic or something

"I talked with Ariel." Raymond finally broke the silence and Paige paused her breath for a second before resuming her breathing.

"And?"

"This may sound like something I made up on my own but it’s from her. I was shocked when she said it but I have no plans to push her away from my life either." Raymond explained and Paige got the hint at what the answer was going to be.

"Does she realize that she will be in harm’s way with you?" Paige asked, her grip tightening on her skirt.

"She doesn’t care." He said and she fell silent. "But I do. I care a lot about her safety. I don’t want her to pass through such a thing another time. She’s suffered so much and I want it to stop."

"What do you plan to do then?"

"I’m going to destroy them and take everything they have." Raymond’s gaze turned dark and cold as he said this. "I’ll crush them so that they can’t pull such a stunt ever."

"There’s no way you’ll be able to destroy a family with such an old history." Paige stated.

"Who said anything about destroying them?" Raymond asked, his left lip curling up in a grin. "I’m going to have everything that once belonged to them. I, will be the head of that household."

Paige was silent.

That would definitely be a smart move. If he could do that then Ariel would be safe for sure. No, why was she siding with him? She wanted to take Ariel back to the family but given all that she passed through growing up, it definitely wouldn’t be easy.

"I’m going to be honest with you, I like Ariel. I really do and I want her to be a part of our family but the only person she relies on is you so the only way I can help her, the only way I can do something good for her that I can smile proudly about is to help you. By helping you, I’m helping her."

"That’s right."

"Where are you right now?"

"The manor." Raymond answered, his gaze turning sharp as he beheld the big manor through the front glass of the car.
