Raymond dwelt on Ariel’s answer. Yes, from the beginning he considered her a pawn but along the line, he had a change of heart and made her his partner instead. They both help each other out for each other’s benefits. It was a done deal.

Yet, she still saw herself as a pawn.

"Hah." He covered his face as he sighed, then rubbed his nose bridge carefully.

Why was he feeling so stressed about this topic? He faced his laptop and decided to search for the cause of his symptoms. Since Steve was so reluctant to give him the results of the test, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

On his search box, he typed in ’I feel strangely happy when the girl beside me is happy and torn when she cries. What sort of symptoms are these?’

He tapped on search and waited patiently as the results displayed. A strange word he never thought to come across in all his years of living surfaced.

"Love." He said out loud. "You are in love with her." He read.

Raymond paused and blinked his eyes. He shook his head and tried to retype it.

"I must’ve asked the wrong way." He said to himself and changed the form of the question. "Why do I feel sad when I see the woman close to me sad and why do I feel torn when she cries?" He tapped on search and once again, the results came out the same.

In disbelief, Raymond read the rest. There were places where it said it was because he desired her. He longed to hold her in his arms and keep her in his embrace. He longed to have her beneath himself at night and watch as her expression changed from the pleasure he would give her.

Raymond blinked his eyes in disbelief but still kept reading.

Symptoms of love varied from person to person.

There were some people who had no problem killing for the person they loved. There were also very possessive people, not wanting others to look at their love interest even for a second. There were some who treated their love interest like eggs and also respected their every wish no matter if it defied their own wish.

But all in all, everyone in love can never stand the sight of seeing their love interest in tears or in pain from external or internal forces. They smile when their love interest smiles and worry when they fall sick.

Raymond immediately remembered when Ariel told him he was smiling a lot recently. Yes, maybe it was because he had avoided making her cry like he used to in the past, when he intentionally brought up what pained her in order to fuel her thirst for revenge.

He had been really careful with her these days. Was it because of ...?

Raymond quickly closed his laptop. How was he to believe that?

Love.

It was true he knew nothing about love and had never felt it before but he was certain that whatever he was feeling wasn’t love... Right?

There was no way. There was no way he was in love with Ariel. There was no way he was in love with a girl who was ten years younger than him. There was no way he desired her body and there was no way he craved to be... He paused and thought about it.

"This must be a rare disease." He concluded and took out his phone. With annoyance, he called Steve.

"Hel..."

"I give you thirty minutes. Be in my office in thirty minutes." Raymond said, ignoring the usual phone greeting etiquette and cut the call.

For some reason, Steve felt he had landed himself in really hot soup.

Steve used twenty nine minutes to get to Raymond’s office. And once he entered, he met Raymond seated silently with his elbows on top of his desk and his fingers interlocked, blocking most parts of his face and thus, Steve wasn’t able to see his expression.

But from the aura around him and his tone on the phone, Steve could tell he was definitely not in a good mood.

"Steve, is your hospital lacking in any way?" Raymond began and Steve shook his head.

"Not at all. We have the best and all facilities are of top quality." He mindlessly answered but soon regretted it when Raymond threw him the next question.

"Is that so? I see no reason why you haven’t been able to identify my strange illness." He said. "Why haven’t you given me a report on the kind of illness I am being plagued with as of late?"

Steve bit his tongue. What was he going to do now?

He hoped that the affection or sympathy, whatever he was feeling for Ariel would subside soon and then he wouldn’t have to answer such a question. But unfortunately, it didn’t look like it subsided but rather, the affection level seemed to have increased.

Steve gave out a heavy breath, adjusted his glasses, straightened his back and looked up, trying to be confident. But the moment he met eyes with Raymond’s questioning and defensive eyes, his confidence died and his back slumped.

"Raymond, I really don’t know what to say." Steve said.

"Why? Is it terminal?" Raymond asked him and with a heavy heart, Steve decided to confess.

"It would seem you have caught feelings for Miss Ariel." Steve said but Raymond remained silent. ’He must want a proper explanation.’ He cleared his throat but before he could say any more, Raymond fired him.

"You’re such a worthless doctor." He said. "You couldn’t diagnose my illness properly so you decided to come up with an absurd word like me catching feelings? How is that possible?"

’I knew he wouldn’t believe it.’ Steve thought.

"In the end, I might have to fly to Germany to get a proper diagnosis." Raymond said and started massaging his nose.

"There won’t be a need for that. The facts are, you like, if not love, Miss Ariel. Her presence elevates your mood. Her smile makes you smile and her tears make you feel bad. Right now, you’re probably getting conflicted knowing you will put her in harm’s way, am I right?"

"How did you...?"

"That’s love, Raymond. That’s how it works and even if you try to ignore it now, you’ll end up realising it later. The changes and all the smiles weren’t exactly there before she came into your life. Thanks to her, I’m sure you finally have a real desire other than that of revenge. Having someone to love is bliss on its own so please, do not try to deny it and give love a chance. You might just like the feeling."

White heard this from the door and his blood boiled. He was just returning from the down floor after running some errands and here, he was hearing that his once cruel, emotionless and plain master had fallen in love.

And it was with none other than Ariel.

Ariel! Ariel!! Ariel!!!

Ariel had to go. She had to disappear. Only then would the cold and heartless man he knew return.
