Chapter 246: Is there something on my face?

In the end, they decided to go on the picnic. Raymond carried Alexa in his arms while the maids carried the wheelchair down the stairs.

"Are you okay?" Raymond asked. "You don’t feel uncomfortable, do you?"

His voice filled with affection made her heart beat accelerate and she kept her arms around his neck.

"I’m okay." She answered. ’But my heart isn’t.’

This sort of close contact... It wasn’t the first or second time this was happening but it felt new every single time.

Even after getting to the bottom of the stairs, Raymond didn’t let her down in her wheelchair and kept carrying her.

"Are you okay?" Alexa asked and he looked down at her with a smile.

"Are you worrying about your weight?"

"It’s just... I might be heavy."

"You don’t need to worry because you weigh less than a pillow." As soon as he said this, her face flushed.

"What?"

"It’s true. I’ll need to tell the kitchen to prepare more heavy food. Got to fatten you up before winter comes." His words sounded childish and unreal but why did it make her blush?

"I don’t think in that light?" She muttered, looking away to hide her blush.

"Is that so? Want to see me carry you with one hand?" This made her jolt and she turned to face him, only to catch him laughing.

"You..."

"I thought you would never turn to look at me. I guess that works just fine." He said and this made her feel even more embarrassed. He tricked her.

Aside from that, she didn’t picture him as the kind of guy who liked making jokes. For the longest time now, his expressions had been a bit too serious as he tried his best to take care of her. It was probably because he was worried about her health. Now that she was next to alright, he was much more easygoing.

"Raymond," Alexa called but then pursed her lips. This was a nice moment, she didn’t want to ruin it with her worries so she shook her head and smiled, "...don’t you have to go to work today?"

Raymond stared at her in silence. He sensed that she wanted to ask something serious but then diverted to this. Well, this was fine.

"I’m on leave." He said, smiling like he meant.

"You’re going on so many leaves these days, isn’t it going to affect your work?" She asked further but he shook his head.

"I’m the chairman, I can simply leave everything to the CEO and my subordinates to take care of." He simply said. "Besides, I didn’t work so hard just to keep working for the rest of my life. One of the benefits of being at the top is that I can take breaks whenever I want."

His words were reasonable but she couldn’t help but feel he was taking too much break just to spend time with Rachael and her. If he wasn’t in the office, he was at the kiddies world with Rachael. If he wasn’t at either of them then he was home with her, staring at her face while she slept or asking her how she was doing and what she would like to eat.

He didn’t talk much about his work or how his day at the office was. She didn’t know if it was because there was nothing to talk about or he just didn’t want to bore her.

If it was up to her, she would go to that office with him and see exactly how he spends his day.

She hadn’t gone out a lot since she was admitted. In fact, she hadn’t been to any place at all. Her inability to move as freely as she wanted was such a burden.

Her legs were fine. She wasn’t paralyzed but Steve and Jane advised that she move her legs as little as possible, as it could bring about some problems. In about a month or two, she could be free to walk as much as possible.

"Is there something on my face?" Raymond asked as they walked through the entrance of the garden and she looked away, towards her daughter.

Rachael was far ahead of them with the maids who were carrying the picnic baskets and mat. She looked so happy, running around freely.

"Raymond," she called, "...can I call you Sir Raymond now?"

Raymond flinched and she felt it since their bodies were together. Did he not want it, even now? She was just about to tell him to forget about it when he said,

"Yes."

"What?" She looked at him, seeing a big smile on his face.

"You can call me that. I don’t mind." She stared at his face. Why the change of mind? It made her feel he really was taking her as Ariel now, for him to accept this so happily.

"Sir Raymond," she reached out her hand and touched his face. "You look great when you smile." She blurted out and as soon as she realized what she had said, she took back her hand and cleared her throat. "You should smile like this more often."

"I will." Raymond readily answered.

They got to the picnic spot and met Rachael sitting on the already spread mat. She waved her hands at them.

"Come sit. Come sit."

Raymond slowly dropped Alexa on the mat and sat next to her. He brushed her hair aside for her and she looked away with a little blush on her cheek.

"Thank you."

"Mummy, mummy. You look great." Rachael suddenly complimented and though Alexa didn’t know what brought that up, she smiled and stormed her daughter’s hair.

"Thank you, baby." She said and Rachael turned to Raymond to also compliment him.

"Daddy, you look very dashing today." she said and Raymond took it with a hearty smile.

"And that’s why Rachael looks the prettiest in the world." He said and Rachael giggled.

"Wow, I’m flattered." She said.

Alexa watched them. This father-daughter combo was so great with their words. Was that what she wanted to hear? Scheming Rachael.

Raymond looked at Alexa whose attention was no longer on him but the maids that were unpacking the snacks. This happiness... He liked it a lot. If she was willing to stay by his side, he would do anything for her. And... It was better that she didn’t remember her past. Yes, the past that was filled with only horrible memories. The suffering and torment she had to go through, he didn’t want her to remember any of it.

It would be great if he could make her remember only the good things but since that wasn’t possible, it was best she forgets everything and starts anew.

They were just too much, the pain. If she remembered the torment her family put on her, the suffering his half-brothers put her through, and everything else... He was afraid she would never smile as peacefully as she was doing right now.

Without the memories of pain, she could start anew. This was a good thing for both of them and he planned not to tell her about her past, about her being Ariel, and about his never ending feelings any time soon.
