I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 239: Henry got out!!
As if knowing what was in the picture, Maxwell snatched Jane’s phone from her, did a few things on it before giving it back to her.
"What did you do?" She asked and saw that he had edited all of Daniel’s faces and put funny stickers in all of them.
He looked at her with a smug on his cheek and said,
"Now, even if you come across any pictures of him, you’re bound to smile."
His way of encouragement was very...Bizarre.
"I’m not going to thank you." Jane said and kept her phone.
"You’re welcome."
They both laughed and then his alarm started ringing. She was surprised that he would set an alarm on his phone out of nowhere but it seemed to be for something serious as his face suddenly changed expression and became seriously mischievous.
"Now, Doc, when will you show me that secret you’ve been meaning to show me?" he asked, assuming a serious character and something told her it was time to carry out the operation, so she nodded.
"We’ll need to go somewhere private. Why don’t we go to the fifth floor?" She played along and he got up from his seat.
"Lead the way."
Jane and Maxwell took the elevator towards the fifth floor. He wore a nose mask, assumingly trying to hide his face from the CCTV cameras.
But what was the use? The place was going to get blown up very soon.
"So, what’s after this?" Jane suddenly asked.
"Hm? What’s after what?"
"This operation." She said, "I assume you have your own work but given how you’ve just been keeping your eyes on me for the past couple of days, I thought you were on break."
"I don’t work." He said. "To put it simply, I’m a stay at home husband. Waiting for his wife to her back from work, give her soothing massages, prepare nice meals for her and ... you know the rest." He said with a smudged face.
Though Jane knew what he was referring to, she couldn’t get how he was a stay-at-home husband. Well, not that she couldn’t get it but she couldn’t understand why.
He was so talented, she could see and if he helped out with work at his wife’s end, then it would relieve her stress, wouldn’t it?
Well, what did she know? He and Paige had been married for about four years while she just met him a few days ago. It wasn’t good to make assumptions.
Maybe that was the conclusion they came up with before marriage or maybe that was what he wanted.
He was the kinda guy to wish that, seeing as he was a huge sucker for his wife.
She shook her head.
Those thoughts weren’t relevant at the moment. What she had to do was focus on the mission at hand.
Maxwell secretly watched her through the reflection on the elevator door. The way she changed her expression, furrowed her eyebrows and shook her head as if expecting all her thoughts to simply fall off. It was cute.
The elevator doors opened and they both walked out with Jane being extra cautious. The place was not heavily guarded because no one actually expected that top secret files would be kept in between hospital records.
The only security setting it had was the door that needed to scan the barcode at the back of her ID to be able to open.
"The door’s just at the end of the hall." Jane said, pointing at the last door. It was a metal door.
"It’s so obviously screaming out that there are files in there." Maxwell said and she wondered out loud,
"Hm? How so?"
"The door looks boring." He said and she tilted her head. How did it look boring?
They steadily approached the door, only for it to open from the inside and Henry walked out while holding a stack of files against his body. He peaked to see if there was anyone out there and his eyes fell on Maxwell who was glaring at him with deadly eyes.
He shrieked and tried to run but Maxwell ran after him and caught his hand, causing all the files in his hand to fall and scatter all over the place.
"You piece of shit, how did you get here?" Maxwell yelled at him. "I was sure I had you in locked up."
His grip on his tightened and Henry grinned.
"My Serena is more than capable of getting me out of your little confinement." He said. "You lunatic, you think you’re all that? You, and everyone else who made my beloved Serena furrow her eyebrows, will go down." He yelled and Maxwell felt ticked.
"Then I’ll make sure that ’your’ Serena follows right after you, you delusional prick." He said but just then, Henry took out a little pocket knife and wanted to use it on him but Maxwell slapped it away.
Unfortunately, the force in which the knife was slapped out of Henry’s hand, sent the knife flying towards Jane and she barely dodged it, causing it to slit the side of her neck.
"Ah." She exclaimed and Maxwell turned to see her neck bleeding.
This turned on the deadly side of him and he immediately broke Henry’s hand. He opened his mouth and yelled in a deadly cry. He was yet to recover from that pain when Maxwell broke his right leg as well.
"Let’s see you run now?" He punched his face and wanted to break his other hand and leg when Jane said,
"It’s just a cut." He turned to look at her. "Come on, let’s get what we want and get out of here. Who knows if the bomb has been activated yet?"
Maxwell’s blood boiled. His veins were literally crawling up his neck towards his face and the veins in his overly clenched fists were literally green.
"Haha, if that’s what you’re weary of, know that you’re too late." Henry said and Maxwell’s deadly eyes fell on him.
The anger he felt and the rising of his psychotic trait were showing fully well in his expression.
"No matter what you do now, you’ll all die. You, as well as everyone in this building. You’re all going to die."
"Son of a..." Maxwell raised his fist and pumped Henry’s face a few times till Jane said,
"We’re really going to go down with this building if you don’t let go of that bastard and help me here." He paused and turned to her. She was using a piece of cloth she had torn out of her white lab coat and was pressing it hard against her bleeding neck, trying to stop the bleeding but the pressure wasn’t enough as it was still bleeding.
Past the already soaked cloth, the blood dripped down her wrist and soaking the rest of her clothes. Why was it bleeding so much when she claimed it was just a cut?
He just couldn’t control his anger.
He turned and kicked Henry hard in the guts, sending him flying to the wall and then turned to Jane.
"We’ll fix your wound once we get back so bear with it a little." He sounded so smart and considerate when he said this but she couldn’t help but give him the blank expression and exclaimed,
"Duh! Thanks for stating the obvious. Of course I’ll treat it when we get back." She said and suddenly rubbed his neckwith her bloody hand.
He was startled that she would do such a think, but then she said,
"Now we both have bloody necks, don’t we?" She smiled and he just knew she was trying to cheer him up.
He let out a sigh and helped pick up the files that were littered all over the floor.
He checked a few and discovered they were the information they were looking for.
He glanced back at the unconscious Henry. It would seem Serena got him out of the place he was locked in, just to carry out this act. Did she know he would fail?
No, she probably had high hopes, for her to go through that trouble of getting him out, just to get this information.
’You should’ve burnt them while you could.’ Maxwell thought, smirking with evil eyes. Then, he looked at Jane. Her breathing had changed.
They were in the hospital, maybe they could get a few things to treat her neck before they got out. A neck slit like that shouldn’t bleed so much so why was it still bleeding?
"Are you okay?" He asked and she looked up. He saw the cold sweat that was gradually dripping down her chin. The air con was on so for her to get sweaty like that, she was definitely not okay.
"Yeah, I... I’m fine." She said, managing to smile.
They picked up the rest of the files and he held them. They were about to leave when his eyes fell on Henry. He was going to die anyway, so why not send the last of his not to his dearly beloved.
He cackled and turned to Jane.
"Go on, I’ll catch up." She looked at him with droopy eyes. She wanted to ask what he was up to but she was starting to get dizzy.
"Just hurry up."
