I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 233: Cause I’m as guilty as he is, okay?
A few days after Jane and Daniel got together in that caffeine talk, after Jane had been surprised with the news that she was meeting Daniel’s parents, after the awkward meeting and after he sincerely apologized for the awkward behavior his family put up in front of her...
(it was hilarious, trust me. Daniel was a Mama’s boy but his parents seemed to have fallen head over heels for Aliya and neglected him)
...she got a call from her ex-boyfriend who broke up with her. He had refused to tell her the reason at the time of the breakup but now he was ready.
He told her he didn’t have long to live and so that was why he decided to break up with her. He didn’t want to leave her so abruptly but then he thought of how pained she would feel and maybe blame herself so he decided to tell her the truth.
Jane was hurt by the news and the fact but she couldn’t just push him away because she had a new boyfriend. This was someone who had only a few days to live so she decided to have a secret relationship with him while retaining the one she had with Daniel.
He was such a nice guy that she couldn’t bring herself to break up with him and she couldn’t leave her ailing ex either so she stuck with both without letting the other know.
That was her reason and her sin. As for. Daniel, according to the text she got from him, he got back together with his ex after the family dinner.
The reason she broke up with him in the first place was because she didn’t want to meet his family.
That aside, she wondered, if her ex didn’t die, if he had a different reason for breaking up with her and got back with her, would she have stayed in a secret relationship with him till now or would she have ended it?
In any case, Daniel claimed he initially planned to call it quits with his ex and told her he had a new girlfriend but she was nonchalant about it and insisted on still seeing him.
That was where it all stemmed from.
They had been together for so long and she didn’t even know. She didn’t know if to call herself a fool or a trusting fool. Whichever it was, she was still a fool.
But how could she not be a fool when Daniel had loved her unconditionally, cared for her and acted like the perfect man. This was his only flaw so far but she wouldn’t go back to him just because it was his first.
Though she admitted that he was a good man so far and he would definitely repent after this incident, she couldn’t deny the fact that this little stain would be the chaos of their relationship.
Who knows if that would be the trigger to every quarrel, every fault and hurt and every misfortune? She wanted to avoid that at all cost so although it was painful, she would rather stick to that pain and forget about it later in the future than enter an eternal torment in her relationship.
Then, she remembered when she paused at her drawer. She instinctively wanted to pick her ring but went ahead to pick her wristwatch instead.
She didn’t need to take it with her since she left it for him.
"Stupid gut feeling." She muttered. "We’re both guilty." She drank the next cup of cappuccino.
"Found you." She heard a familiar voice and looked up with lazy eyes.
"Ugh, you’re the last person I want to see right now." She said, "And the same goes for that expression on your face."
Maxwell grinned. He could smell a rat.
"What happened to your smile? Did you break up with your fiance or what?" he asked and took a seat next to her.
She disgruntledly shifted because it looked like he was going to forcefully push her if she didn’t.
"Stop making accurate guesses and get another seat. You’re going to squeeze me to death." She complained.
"But you’re doing fine now." He said and suddenly realized something. "You broke up?"
He looked quite surprised and other than the sinister and obedient side of him, this was the first time she was seeing him show a surprise expression.
"You can laugh but don’t laugh too loudly. People will think you’re crazy." She solemnly said and drank the next cup of cappuccino like she was taking tequila shots.
She was heading for the next when Maxwell took it from her.
"Hey, what are you...?" She saw a serious look on his face and her tongue got tied. The way he looked... Was he feeling sorry for her? Was he getting mad on her behalf?
She couldn’t tell what he was thinking since it was her first time seeing him like that.
"As much as I want to laugh, I don’t really find this humorous." He said and dropped the cup. "I was instructed to keep you away from too much coffee so..." he smiled, "Let’s chat."
"Ugh." She felt she had been overthinking it. That smile of his was back. "Leave me. You already know I broke up, what else do you want me to tell you?"
"I don’t know, like how they do it in the movies. They get home to see their guy cheating and hit him in the balls and beat the shit out of the other woman. Action like that." He said and realized something. She wasn’t saying anything which meant there had indeed been another woman. "What happened?"
"There was indeed another woman." She finally answered. "But there was no ’hit him in the balls’ or ’beat the shit out of the other woman’ kinda action." She tried to steal the other cups of cappuccino but Maxwell didn’t let her. "Anyway, since I understood the situation, I didn’t fight back and just picked my things and left. Not all of them though, I think I forgot a few important files and my PJs, haha."
She tried to laugh it over but Maxwell wasn’t laughing. Then he said,
"Even if you did understand the situation, even if there was an excuse, it doesn’t make cheating right."
"Wow, look at you talking about rights and wrong. I feel like I’ve entered a different dimension all of a sudden." She chuckled but it ended when she pursed her lips. "You’re right. It’s not right but... what can I do when we were both so in love?"
"If he loved you, he wouldn’t do that." Maxwell insisted
"And that’s why I said I understood the situation. If I didn’t, I would’ve left there with a few strands of hair hanging from my fingernails or an arm at most. Whichever works fine." She said and looked away from him. "I couldn’t bear to look at his face too long ’cause I knew I’d cry and do something stupid like get back with him, so I left."
She laughed.
"If anyone heard me right now, they’d think I’ve been trying so hard to get away from him but..." she pursed her lips. "I really loved him."
"Do you want me to deal with him for you then?" He offered but she shook her head before saying,
"No thanks. I don’t need you to do anything for me. I would rather we be on talking terms and still be able to see each other’s faces than become hostile."
"Why would you do that when he cheated on you?" Maxwell asked, almost to the point of yelling and she yelled back.
"Cause I’m as guilty as he is, okay?" she yelled at him. "We both went back to our freaking exes and if mine didn’t die, maybe we would all still be running this shit show til one of us got caught and called it quits." She breathed out. "So, how am I supposed to blame him when I did the same thing? Committed the same sin and guilt as he did."
Maxwell was silent. Was this what she meant when she said she understood the situation? This was the reason why she just walked away and let that guy go?
It was a shitty reason. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
People were wondering what was going on in their table and he shot them a glare, forcing them to mind their business.
"Maxwell," Jane called his name and he turned to her. "You love your wife, right?"
"I do." he answered firmly and she nodded.
"I’m going to make an example, okay? So don’t flare up and chop my head off. I heard you’re great at doing that." She said and he nodded. "It’s just an example but imagine she goes ahead and has sex with a guy she knew a long time ago, what would you do?"
Maxwell’s countenance immediately changed.
"I’ll chop that man’s crotch off." He answered straight up and Jane almost laughed. He was so serious and she was sure he would definitely do it.
"And why is that?"
"He committed the sin of enticing and tempting my wife."
"You won’t do anything to your wife?"
"No."
"And why is that?"
"Because I trust her and I love her so much that I won’t be able to do anything to her. So I’ll decide to take it out on that bastard."
Jane literally saw veins popping up his neck and she laughed. She bowed her head on the table and laughed. Why was he taking an example so seriously?
He loved his wife that much, hm?
Maxwell didn’t know why she was laughing now but he felt it was better than the sad look she had on.
"Now you get it, right?" She suddenly asked and turned her face to look at him while smiling mischievously. "I can’t do anything to Daniel because I still love him but as for that bitch, no, no, no. She can’t get away with this. Why don’t you help me take care of her instead?"
