Chapter 232: Breaking up as calmly as possible

"You did it with me when you guys were still dating so why would it be different if we did it while you guys are married?"

The lady’s voice was so demanding and desperate. If asked, she would immediately be pointed out to be the reason they had been continuing whatever that had been up to.

"It’s different." Daniel claimed. "I did it with you all this while because I never really got over you but now, I can do without you. I don’t need to see you or have sex with you to feel complete. All I need is Jane, I..." he gave out a breath. "I really love her and I don’t want to hurt her."

"So you think you’ve not been hurting her by having sex with your ex for three years without her knowing?" The lady asked and Jane covered her mouth, tears slowly brimming down her cheeks.

"I know." Daniel sadly said. "And I regret it. I regret not cutting things completely with you back then. I regret... keeping this a secret and I feel ashamed."

The lady scoffed loudly and folded her arm.

"Well, it’s not going to be a secret for too long." She said and Daniel looked at her like he was being threatened.

"Don’t you dare."

"Oh, I dare. Unless you’re going to continue this with me, I’ll tell her everything." She threatened.

Jane cleaned her eyes and wanted to barge in but she heard Daniel say,

"Go ahead and tell her." He said. "But I’ll make sure to tell her first before you. That way, I will feel better than having to continue this with you while I’m married." He bowed his head. "She’ll feel broken and mad but I hope she forgives me."

"Are you crazy? There’s no way she’ll forgive you. She’ll hate you."

"I believe that is for me to decide." Jane said, carefreely walking into the room.

They both looked at her like they had seen a ghost. She looked at Daniel who immediately looked away because of shame and guilt.

"Sorry to interrupt your conversation but I just wanted to announce that I’m back from my travel and I had a great time." She started speaking and headed towards their wardrobe and took out a big bag. "Alexa asked after you by the way. Rachael’s a little cutie as ever so you don’t need to worry about her getting less food and care."

They listened to her, feeling confused. She just caught them so why was she so calm about it?

"The country’s pretty by the way." She said and parked out her clothes that were on hangers into the bag. "Oh, can’t forget this." She drew out the drawer and paused for a moment before picking up her wristwatch. "It’s a lifesaver, this little thing."

Daniel was confused and though he was ashamed, he stepped forward and asked,

"Are you okay?"

Jane’s grip on the wristwatch tightened but she looked up and smiled.

"Of course. If I weren’t, don’t you know I would’ve been in jail by now?" She said with a deadly look in her eyes and something about her smile made him fear for his life.

Of course she was not alright. He had been with her long enough to know what her character was like.

He hugged her and started apologizing.

"I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I didn’t want to but my heart was still attached and I thought it would end soon but it didn’t. I got too attached but now I can let go. I really can, so please, forgive me."

She didn’t ask who he was referring to and though she knew quite well, she did not ask and used it to her advantage instead.

"So you mean it? You can let go now?" She asked and he nodded. "That’s good." She squeezed her arms around him and then let go with a smile. "Then, you can let go. Let go of me and let’s both be free of each other, thank you Daniel."

Her words sounded like a hammer hitting his head.

"What?"

She turned to continue parking but he caught her hand and asked,

"What are you saying? You... You’re going to leave me? You want to break up with me after so long?" He asked in utter disbelief and she answered calmly,

"Yes. I’m going to leave so let me go, like you said. It’s been so hard on you and I....I don’t want to hold you back. Besides,... " She looked at the lady in the red dress standing at the side. She really dressed up nicely for someone who was a side chick. This was a couples bedroom, did she have no shame?

If it were up to her, she would slam that bitches head to the wall and make her blond hair match really well with her dress.

She looked away from her and smiled warmly, like the innocent girl she was..?

"She seems to need you more than I do, seeing that she doesn’t want to let you go, so go to her." She said, "I don’t mind."

Jane took her stuff, as well as her luggage and headed for the door.

Daniel was dumbstruck. And as he lowered his head, he asked himself, "What have I done?"

He couldn’t even muster the courage to go after her and Jane left with a smiling face.

But that smile soon fell as she realized what she had just done. She broke up with him quite calmly and he didn’t bother to chase after her.

She was glad though. If he had chased her at that moment then she would’ve probably changed her mind and gone back to him.

She cried in the cab that the driver had to ask,

"Miss, are you okay?"

"No, mister." She answered honestly. It was the answer she wished she had given Daniel but she didn’t.

Nothing would come out of telling him that she was deeply hurt by his betrayal. Well, she was sure he got that message quite clearly seeing as he didn’t chase after her.

"I’ll be okay in a minute, mister. Just, let me cry for a while."

The kind cab driver let her cry but he was not very comfortable with her loud sobs, and she wasn’t either so he turned on the stereo and helped her drown her cries in the loud music.

Others may call him crazy for disturbing with his music, but he was just being a kind man by helping this lady feel less uncomfortable as she cried.

The reason why Jane let Daniel off so easily was simple. They were both guilty of the same sin but he just had to fall into it too deep.

Previously, when she referred to their relationship as having started on a whim, this was what she meant.

They were two pairs of people who were going through heartbreak. They broke up with their partner that same day and just happened to meet in that same coffee shop.

Yes, it was a coffee shop.

While she was downing cups and cups of coffee, she met him. He had this expression that made it seem like the world had turned against him.

There were no free seats so he had to leave to find another coffee shop but since she was the only one in a two people’s seat, she asked him to join her.

They were two people from two different worlds who had crossed paths while suffering from a heartbreak.

Before they knew it, they were already talking about their problems. Both had a story of their break up and none of them were the ones to call it quit first so it was painful.

"You know what? Wanna get together?" Jane asked and he looked at her, confused.

She was high on caffeine and was saying everything that came to mind without a filter.

"Let’s just get together and just rid ourselves of that single buds title."

It was Jane’s idea, but Daniel decided to go with it. He didn’t want to be alone either and with his family dinner coming up, he needed a girl to take home if he didn’t want to be nagged and set up with a blind date.

"Alright." He accepted and just like that, they both started dating.

"Ugh." Jane exclaimed as she took her luggage out of the trunk of the cab.

She had left the place in such a hurry and didn’t bring along her important documents. She’d have to go back and get them once she was sure she wouldn’t cry in front of him.

"Thank you, mister." She said to the cab driver who gave her a caring smile and left.

Her phone buzzed and she picked it up to see a text from Daniel. It was his confession and explanation of his side of the story.

She glanced through it and tucked her phone back in her pocket. The damage had already been done.

The same sin. They had the same sin but could it really be weighed differently with reason?

The same sin. It honestly wouldn’t have made a difference if she committed that same sin or not, would it?

The same sin. What was she trying to explain? She was guilty and that was it.
