Paige was silent. He was such a fool in love.

"Won’t you ask me how I feel about you?" She suddenly asked him and he shook his head.

"You already agreed to marry me and keep me around and that’s all that matters."

"So you don’t want to know what my heart feels for you?" She asked but he remained silent.

"I do want to hear it but you’re too honest." he said. "I would rather live in oblivion of how you really feel than get broken with your response."

She tried not to look at his face and lowered her head.

"For the record, I like younger guys and you just happen to be my type." She said and smiled brightly. "Was that a satisfactory answer?"

Maxwell watched her with his eyes gradually growing teary and he buried his face in her hair.

"Haha, are you about to cry again?" She asked but he wouldn’t answer and she could only laugh.

After that, Paige announced that she was going to be engaged to Maxwell and if her grandfather had a problem with it, he could go ahead and find a suitor who could stand up to Maxwell.

It was like you were digging a grave for yourself by getting on Paige Winston’s nerves because surely, you would go down.

Maxwell remained sinister and after carrying out an act, he would smile with deception written all over his face.

Her sinister fiance had his way in getting things done and he was very clingy. Though, he had an odd switch when his madness started and that was when Paige gave the word.

All she had to do was tell him to stop and he would stop.

He couldn’t even be punished by the law for what he was doing because it was a medical condition. He was practically a madman in the eyes of the law so he was let free each time he caused a commotion but it was very often he got caught causing a commotion either.

The only time he got taken to the station was when he publicly beat up a man who had shoved Paige aside and not apologize.

He had suggested they go on a date and Paige happily agreed. She has been quite busy for some time so it made him really happy when she agreed to go out.

They visited a nice restaurant and then went shopping. After that, they took a stroll around the area.

While strolling, a guy ran over while in a hurry and shoved Paige. She almost fell to the ground along with the things in her hand but luckily, Maxwell caught her.

"Hey, watch where you’re going." Maxwell calmly said to him but this huh just had to dig his own grave and make a stupid remark.

"What? It’s not my fault your bitch was in the way. The road isn’t for dumb lovers like you so get out and let me pass."

"Say that again." Maxwell growled under his breath and Paige looked up at him. This wasn’t good. He was going mad.

"It’s alright, I’m fine." Paige said and turned to the man. "I forgive you so be on your way." She said but as if looking for trouble, he grabbed her hand and said,

"How can you forgive me when you’re the one hogging the lane like two animals in heat? You should apologize for that." He said and Paige stared at him in disgust.

Maybe she should just let him get beaten up. That was what he thought but the moment Maxwell lounged in him, she couldn’t help but cover her mouth in fright.

It was too much. He overpowered this man and threw his fists rapidly at him. He was going to kill him.

"Say that again." Maxwell yelled at him as he threw his punches at the unconscious man. "You dare say that to Paige? My Paige? You better die by my hands if not you I will hunt you till you do die."

The sight was so shocking that Paige forgot to tell Me well off till security arrived and dragged Maxwell off the man amidst a lot of struggle.

Paige was very shaken by what had just happened and once again, she reminded herself that Maxwell was a dangerous man with an unusual obsession with her.

She should’ve stopped him but she couldn’t find her voice. She couldn’t do anything even if she knew she could.

At the station, she sat in place while the officers apprehended Maxwell. She had explained what had happened.

Though they agreed it was the man’s fault for spewing all that nonsense, they didn’t see it justified that Maxwell would go so far and beat the man nearly to death.

The man was currently hospitalized and Paige agreed she would cover the hospital bills but they still wouldn’t let it go, not until she showed them Maxwell’s medical records.

He was a man with mental illness so this sort of thing wasn’t his fault. Seeing this, they had no choice but to let him go.

On their way back, Maxwell was silent. Paige didn’t know if it was because he had learnt his lesson but his silence was unusual.

"Hey, it’s late." She said, "What would you like to eat?"

Maxwell remained silent.

"Are you regretting your actions?" She asked and surprisingly, he nodded. "Do you feel bad for hitting him?"

Maxwell suddenly looked towards her with a disgusted look and said,

"That bastard deserved more than death." He said. Well, she expected such a remark but then what was he regretting? "Earlier," He began, "Paige looked restless while talking to the officers and I felt I had caused trouble for you."

Paige was silent. It was no longer a surprise that he had her in mind in all that he did but it was still heartwarming to know he cared so much.

"I should’ve dealt with that bastard where no one would see." Maxwell remarked and Paige smiled awkwardly. Typical Maxwell.

He turned to look at her with an apologetic look in his expression.

"I’m sorry I caused trouble for you." he apologized.

"It’s alright but promise me," she brushed the side of his hair. "...that you won’t go after that man. He’s already gotten what he deserved so let him be."

It took a moment till Maxwell finally nodded and agreed to it.

"That’s a good boy. Now, let’s go eat."
