Chapter 204: What’s the rush?

Paige looked at her phone and sighed. That must’ve been a close one. If she hadn’t called Maxwell, he might’ve gone a bit too extreme in carrying out what he was told.

She looked at her phone. The text he had sent her showed he had discovered who Henry was and who he was working for.

’It took him just one day.’ She thought and looked into the ward where the kids were playing. Alexa was awake and watching them as they played.

She walked in and they all looked up at her.

"How are you feeling?" She asked and they looked up at her.

"I still can’t do anything on my own but it’s alright," Alexa said. "But since I woke up just yesterday, I think this is a great improvement." She smiled and Paige sat next to her.

"I’m glad you woke up." She said, 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Alexa shifted her gaze to the kids while Paige stared at her, wondering how she was going to put out the question.

"By the way, Steve told me you said you had a dream. What was it about?" She asked and Alexa looked at her feeble hands.

"I was beyond happy in my dream." She said, clenched her fists lightly, and looked up. "There was this man. He made sure I was happy and did everything I wanted. He was a good man."

Paige listened quietly.

"How did the dream end?" She asked and Alexa looked up at her with a little smile.

"I never got to see the end of it." She said but secretly, she knew exactly how that happy dream ended.

Now, she didn’t know if you classify it as a mere dream or a nightmare. Somehow, she felt the love for herself and that man in her dream, to the point where she asked herself if he was her husband who died before she lost her memories.

"Alexa," Paige called and then looked down at the kids. "I think the home-made vanilla ice cream is ready. Would you two like to go check it out?" She asked and they got to their feet.

"Alright," Rachael said and pulled Romeo up. "Come on."

"What’s the rush?" Romeo asked, unaware of the dense atmosphere that stood out in the ward.

"Dummy, our mummies need to discuss something important. That’s why your mummy asked us to leave for the moment."

"Hm, are you sure? She could’ve just said so." Romeo said and Rachael shook her head. Sometimes, he could be a little too dumb.

Once the kids were gone, Paige turned to Alexa.

"I’d like to know, that sister of yours, what is her name?" She asked while looking calm on the outside but desperate inside.

"Her name," Alexa mumbled and as if looking for the answers in the ceiling, she stared for a while.

Paige patiently waited for her to gather her thoughts. Then, she lowered her head from the ceiling and turned to her.

"In my dream," she suddenly said, "there was this lady who treated me with so much care and love. She came off as a sister figure to me." She said, "And I wanted to think that she was the one since she had been with me the longest but that sister in my dream, she would never do that to me."

Paige was silent, a bit confused as well.

"That lady posing as my sister, she is not my sister," Alexa said. "And her name... her name is Serena."

Paige’s eyes widened.

"Se-serena?" She asked in disbelief. "Did you just say Serena?"

"Yes."

Paige covered her mouth. How did they not know this? Well, Serena was a sneaky vermin and she was already out of the country during Raymond’s wedding so no one thought in that direction.

It was no wonder she was quiet the whole time.

Paige felt angry. Serena, why go so far? Did she do all that just to torture Raymond?

"Do you know her?" Alexa asked with curious eyes while Paige looked anxious.

She decided to calm down and think rationally.

"This Serena, what does she look like?" Paige asked. She needed to be sure before making any conclusion. Serena Stein could be a suspect but they didn’t know if it was indeed Serena Stein.

"She has brown hair, sharp eyes that seem to bore into you when she asks a question, and a hair of affluence," Alexa explained.

’Brown hair can be a mere coincidence.’ Paige thought, suddenly getting anxious. There had to be some distinct feature. Then she remembered. "Does she have a mole on her neck? The left side of her neck, is there a mole there?"

Alexa tried to think and finally remembered. She nodded her head and said,

"Yes, she has a tiny mole on her neck."

Paige felt her rationality snapping. That bitch... How could she?

She wanted to find her right away and give her a piece of her mind but then she realized that Serena was nowhere to be found.

She was so good at hiding and since she wasn’t causing any trouble, Raymond gave up on looking for her.

Not that he had the time, being haunted by nightmares and all.

"Miss Paige," Alexa called and Paige looked up, regaining herself. She managed to smile and said,

"I told you to call me Paige." She smiled while trying to hide the furry burning in her.

She had to go tell Raymond about this right away and come up with a plan to get Serena out of the hole she was hiding in.

’Well played, Serena. I’ll make sure you rot this time around.’ Paige thought.

"Miss..." Alexa shook the word out of her mouth and tried again. "Paige," she called and Paige met eyes with hers. "Are you okay?" She asked, slowly lifting her hand to graze the corner of her face. "You’ve got cold sweat. Or is it just me?"

Paige caught her hand and rested her cheek on it.

"It’s not you. I indeed have a cold sweat. I just couldn’t help imagining all you went through at the hands of that despicable woman." She solemnly said.

"So, do you know her?" Alexa asked and Paige nodded.

"Serena is... Raymond’s half-sister."
