I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 202: She didn’t notice it
Rachael’s eyes immediately grew teary as she saw her mother. It wasn’t the fact that her mother looked weak, pale, and lean that made her tear up. Rather, it was the fact that she had been holding herself back from going to see her and the tears she held in for too long.
"Mummy." She got down from Raymond’s arms and ran to her, her tears streaming down like there was no tomorrow. "Mummy."
She got to where Alexa was but her intuition said she just couldn’t jump on her mother. Plus, Raymond already told her to be careful since her mother was still a bit weak after being asleep for so long.
"Mummy." Rachael cried, gripping her skirt. "You’re awake. That’s *sniff* great." She smiled through her tears but that did not stop her from crying more.
"Rachael," Alexa called, feeling her own eyes tear up. "I’m so sorry, baby. I made you worried, didn’t I? I’m so sorry."
"Welcome back, mummy," Rachael said as she kept crying.
"Thank you, baby."
All she could do at this moment was stroke her head and manage a smile.
"Mummy is okay now." She said and Rachael cried even more. She rested her head on the bed while Alexa stroked her hair.
Left for her, she would’ve taken Rachael in her arms and hugged her tight but with her current condition, she probably wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Raymond came in and carried Rachael in his arms. She kept crying but he did his best to comfort her and pat her back. He didn’t tell her to stop crying though. There was just so much a little girl her age could keep in.
Alexa looked up at Raymond. Was this the reason he did not come to her straight? He wanted her daughter to be the first to see her, huh?
"Thank you." She said with a low tone but he heard it and nodded.
"I’m glad you’re awake." He said and though it sounded like a normal greeting, she felt something from his words.
She looked away. It must’ve been the aftereffects of the dream she had. Her dream...
"We’ll go now," Raymond said. "You need to rest more."
Alexa looked at him. Would it be too much if she asked them to stay longer? She wanted to do that but her eyes were getting heavy.
"Alright." She said, "I’ll just sleep for a while and when I wake up, Rachael, you can tell me all about your week." She smiled.
"Yes, mummy," Rachael said and sniffed while resting her head on Raymond’s shoulder. "But mummy, don’t sleep too long this time, okay?"
Alexa was silent and her eyes grew teary once more but she hid it with her smile.
"Of course. I wouldn’t want to miss you too much."
Raymond and Rachel walked out of the ward and Steve came out shortly.
"She didn’t notice it." Raymond suddenly said.
"What?"
"She didn’t see the bandage on Rachael’s arms." He said. "I was getting prepared to apologize for not taking care of her daughter properly. I was getting ready to take the blame but she didn’t..." he paused as Rachael grabbed his face.
"It’s not Daddy’s fault." She said and smiled. "Let’s just keep it a secret, okay?"
Raymond rested his head on her head and said,
"I don’t think I can do that." He brushed her hair. "If she asks me, I’ll have no choice but to tell her about it."
"Okay, till then," Rachael said. "We’ll keep it between us till then. Is that okay? I don’t want mummy to worry after waking up so it’s better to keep it away from her."
Steve watched and shook his head.
This particular concept, he could understand. With this, both parties would not be hurt unnecessarily.
Love in all ways had a way of hurting. But he guessed one had to be so much in love for them to be able to bear whatever hurt.
They probably had the strength to move on and make tough choices because they were in love.
He watched Romeo rush towards them and grabbed him before he crashed into anyone. Romeo laughed while excitedly saying how happy he was that Rachael’s mother was awake.
Paternal love was no different. He felt that if the situation called for it, he just might give everything up for Romeo.
"You’re happy now, aren’t you?" Romeo asked excitedly and Rachael nodded.
"I am but... Mummy looks so skinny. We’ll have to fatten her up." She said,
"Of course. Let’s give her a lot of pancakes and..."
"Hold it right there, champ," Steve said before Romeo could start listing food. "She just woke up so she’ll have to eat lightly in the meantime. But don’t worry, once she’s a lot better, you can feed her as much as you want."
"But doesn’t mummy always say eating makes one healthy?" Romeo asked with his head tilted to the side and Rachael giggled.
"Let’s listen to the professional." She said, "Come, let’s go play."
She held his hand and they both walked away towards her too where their toys were littered on the floor. They had been abandoned as soon as Raymond came to get her with the news that her mother had finally woken up.
"Does it still hurt?" Romeo asked, looking at her elbow. "It looked pretty bad."
"It’s fine now. It does hurt a little but after seeing my mummy, it was like the pain magically disappeared." She chuckled.
"Don’t you want to spend more time with your mummy, though?" Romeo asked and she lowered her head.
"I do, but I also want her to recover fast so I won’t disturb her while she is resting," Rachael said and Romeo nodded.
"Hm, you’re so wise." He said and she smiled.
"Will you call me wise big sis from now on?" She asked with a sneaky grin and he scoffed.
"You wish." He said and she laughed. He also laughed.
Paige saw the two kids walking away and laughing and she turned to the direction they were coming from.
"Things seem to be going well now." She mumbled.
