I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 175: Are you more relieved now?
"Why did you start calling Raymond your daddy?" Alexa asked and Rachael’s eyes darted to the side.
"Oh, uh... look at the time. I need to get dressed before I make us go late. Let’s go, Margo." She said while leading Margo, the maid, away.
Alexa watched them leave. What had become of her daughter?
"I don’t mind what she calls me." Raymond said, "Afterall, I already treat her like my daughter. It wouldn’t be too much for her to treat me like her father either, would it?"
"But..."
"And also," he interrupted her. "Don’t you think we fit the father daughter combo very much?" He asked and walked away without hearing her response.
"Did he just... smile?" She wondered if the expression she saw was a smile. She shook her head. There was nothing funny so why would he smile?
Running ahead were two happy children who were coming to the beach for the first time in their lives.
"Careful you two." Alexa yelled as she stared a bit worriedly.
"You don’t have to feel tense." Raymond said to her.
"I just don’t want to end up making a mistake." She said and folded her arms. "They shouldn’t go too close to the water, they shouldn’t talk to strange people. They shouldn’t..."
Raymond placed his hands on her shoulder, surprising her.
"You should relax." He said and let go, walking ahead of her. "If that’s what bothers you then know that I have my people stationed around in case of any suspicious person."
Alexa looked round. There were guys who were secretly watching them but one wouldn’t notice it unless they paid keen attention to their behavior.
It was such a smart move.
She looked at Raymond’s back. Well, it was something to be expected of the country’s richest man. He was being really careful.
She slid her hair aside and walked father to catch up with them.
A little into their time, Alexa started feeling more relaxed. The kids were in plain sight so it was easy to spot any suspicious person approaching them, even though the guards were already doing that.
"Are you more relieved now?" Raymond asked after coming back from his phone call.
"Yeah. I guess I was being a bit too paranoid." She said, rubbing her arms. "Are you okay? Was that an important call?" She asked as he sat next to her.
"Not too important. But I guess I can’t leave my work alone for too long. Next time, I’ll wrap things up and then I can have a proper rest." he said and laid back on the deckchair.
Something about his words got Alexa thinking.
"Is this going to happen again?" She asked and he smiled.
"Why not?"
Quiet, Alexa stared into the beach. The water flowed gradually and was a safe distance away from the children so they weren’t worried about any rising tides getting to them.
She was stuck in her thoughts and couldn’t be sure of her assumptions unless she got affirmed.
Raymond saw her thinking and wondered if she was still concerning herself about the safety of the kids.
"Raymond." She suddenly called. "Were you serious when you said you’d help me?"
A little silence followed before Raymond sat up to face her.
"At that time when I made that promise, I solely had Rachael’s safety in mind but... now, I want to help because it’s your problem."
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"I’m worried for your safety as well." He said and Alexa stared. What was in his mind? Did he know what he was saying?
"And why... Why would you care for ’my’ safety? We have nothing together." She pointed out and Raymond looked aside. What to tell her now?
"We don’t need to have something together for me to care for you, do we?" He simply asked. He got up to head to where the kids were, avoiding further questioning.
Alexa watched him, biting on her lip. What in the world did he mean by that? Or was he caring for her because she looked like Ariel? Why was he being more friendly after last night? It was like he was treating her like a different person?
"Ugh." She held her head. The headache was coming back again. Why did it kick in each time she was trying to remember something? Why did she have to endure this?
"What’s wrong with mummy?" Rachael asked Raymond who had just gotten to where they were.
He turned around only to find Alexa gripping her head under the umbrella. His eyes widened.
He immediately signaled the guards to come over to take the kids inside while he went to Alexa.
"These uncles will take you in now, okay?" He said to them, "I’ll go get your mother inside right away."
With this assurance, they watched him rush towards Alexa.
As Alexa saw him coming over, she sat up and acted like it wasn’t hurting as much as it looked.
"Don’t worry, it’s not that serious.. I..." she said, knowing he’d worry but he swept her off the chair and started heading towards the villa. "Hey, I’m..."
"You’re fine." He interrupted her. "I know that’s what you’re going to say and I get it." He looked down at her. "I’m only taking you to rest. The sun’s rays are harsh now, it’s not good for your skin."
Alexa was silent.
Her head was hurting really bad but for some reason, it was like her heart was hurting more. The way he came over to sweep her off, only to hide his care with a logical reasoning, it made her feel a feeling she couldn’t recognize. It was ... painful.
Her chest felt congested and she felt she couldn’t breath but it didn’t look like any of that had anything to do with Raymond Stein.
’If it’s just because of the sun, why won’t he let me walk on my own?’ She thought.
And then she looked down, squeezing her eyes tight while holding on to him tightly.
’Raymond Stein, what are you thinking?’
"Mummy, are you okay?" Rachael asked, coming down from the guards arms.
"I’m okay, Rachael." Alexa said and managed to smile.
"That’s a relief." Rachael said, hugging her mother’s leg. "You can’t get sick, okay?"
"Awn, look who’s worried about me?" She said and giggled while Rachael pouted. "Little woman, I’m not that weak, okay?"
"Hope not." She muttered.
"Rachael, let’s go have some ice cream." Romeo whispered to Rachael and she looked up at her mummy. She didn’t want to leave.
What if when she left, her mummy started feeling sick again? She wanted to stay there.
"Don’t worry." She rubbed her hair aside. "I’ll be fine."
Rachael looked up at her, rubbed her face on her leg and let go.
"You have to promise you won’t get sick anymore, okay?"
Alexa looked up at Raymond for some reason before looking down at her daughter and smiling.
"Okay." She said, squatting down and kissing her forehead.
