Chapter 172: His Ariel

Thinking about it, Alexa’s eyes suddenly became teary.

Why has life become so awful and hard? She was happy living in oblivion but she couldn’t blame anyone now.

"Wahh." She cried out, shocking Raymond. He frantically looked left and right, as if looking for something to calm her down.

Why was she crying like that all of a sudden? It took him by surprise and he didn’t know how to handle it.

"Here." He handed her a box of tissues but instead of taking them, she pulled him to herself and hugged him tight, crying more as she couldn’t think of anything to fix her situation.

"I feel so useless." She cried.

"No, you’re not useless. You’re popular for being a very capable lady."

"A capable lady who can’t even solve her own problems. What sort of capable lady can’t protect her daughter? I can’t think of anything to fix my mess and here I am, crying my heart out to a man who has suffered way more than I have." She sobbed and buried her head in him.

Raymond didn’t know how to react to this. How was he going to cheer her up?

He instinctively placed his hand on her hair and said,

"Sometimes, even the strongest can not solve their own problems." He said. "They reach out for help and those who care about them help them out. There will always be someone you can stretch your hand to for help. Why don’t you do that?"

"It doesn’t always work like that." Alexa said. "Help doesn’t always come simply because you reach out."

"But your helper is right here." He said and she paused, raising her head to look at him with her puffy eyes. "I am not a hundred percent sure that I can help you solve this issue but I will do the best I can."

He said and her eyes became teary again.

"Why do you want to help me? I’m not Ariel." She said but he didn’t feel anything about her words and smiled.

"I know. You’re Alexa, my psychologist. The one who brought me out of my dark world with her cute little daughter." He said and brushed over her nose with his thumb. "You’re the lady who made me sit on a merry-go-round with other kids. The lady who bit my hand really hard while trying to endure pain. And, you are the lady who is sitting in front of me with a snotty nose and puffy eyes."

"Pft." She almost laughed but then sniffed and said, "You really aren’t thinking of me as Ariel, right?"

’She’s speaking like she’s drunk.’ Raymond thought and stroked her head. "Don’t worry. You’re not Ariel and I won’t try to see her in you anymore."

"You won’t try to what?"

"Forget it." He said and hugged her. "Just know that when there’s a will, there’s a way. Whatever that’s threatening you right now, I will try my best to save you from it."

He sounded sincere. He sounded sure and Alexa felt those were the words she needed to hear. All her life, at least all that she could remember now, she had been trying to perfect herself in hopes that she would never need to ask for help.

She wanted to be everything Rachael could ask for. She wanted them to lack nothing but... it seemed she got ahead of herself. Now, asking for help, it felt just right.

"Okay." She said with a silent voice and closed her eyes.

Raymond looked down at her as he stroked her hair. Of course he would not try to see Ariel in Alexa because he was sure of one thing now, Ariel was Alexa.

He stroked her hair and held her tight. Whatever happened that made her this way, whoever was responsible for taking her away, he would get them. He would make sure to destroy them, whoever and wherever they were.

"Everything’s going to be okay from now on." He said as he continued stroking her hair. "I won’t let you go again."

The way Raymond was able to confirm all his numerous suspicions was after the maids took off her dress to wipe her down. He quickly remembered she didn’t like anyone seeing her scars so he wanted to do charity and do it by himself, only for him to find her necklace. The same silver necklace Ariel got from her mother’s possession.

He asked her in her half conscious state,

"Where did you get this?" And to which she replied.

"It was... my mother’s."

This was all he needed to know for him to dispel everything as a coincidence.

This was Ariel. His Ariel. How did she get here like this? How did she become someone’s sister? How did she... get so far from him?

Well, no matter, she was here now. She was in his grasp. He wouldn’t let anyone take her away and gradually get to whoever did this to them.

’I will get revenge for us this time.’ he thought and hugged the sleeping Alexa tight.

He left Alexa to sleep and went to Rachael’s room. They were still sleeping soundly and he was assured.

He walked in and admired Rachael. Since Alexa was Ariel, that would mean Rachael was his daughter, wasn’t it?

His real daughter. The sound of it made him feel warm.

The connection he couldn’t understand, the connection that had him drawing close to this little thing. It was blood, wasn’t it? Who would’ve thought it was because he was connecting with his actual daughter?

That explained why he felt so much joy hearing her call him father. He felt so much joy having her around, when she smiled, when she laughed. He felt everything clearly and that was because she was his daughter.

"Rachael." He muttered her name and lightly stroked her hair, before smiling at her light snuggling reaction. "My daughter."

He became a bit emotional and kissed the top of her head. This time, he would protect them both.
