Chapter 165: Romeo, Rachael is older than you

Alexa walked out of the room and found Rachael smiling at Romeo. She was actually being friendly with him. When did that happen?

Raymond saw her coming out and she instinctively moved her gaze to him. Once their eyes met, she found herself looking away. She was probably feeling awkward after the conversation with Jane.

’Thinking about it now, I can’t deny the fact that Rachael is changing a lot with his appearance. It’s like she is... happier than she ever was with me.’ She pursed her lips. ’If she were to choose, would she choose him over me?’ Rubbing her arms gently, she dispersed the chill she felt from that thought.

The dress she wore had short sleeves and thank goodness they were able to cover up her scars if not she didn’t know what she’d do.

"Mummy." Rachael called and she looked up. Raymond was no longer looking at her but why did her gaze go to him first?

"Yes, baby?" She managed to smile and Rachael ran towards her but she didn’t look like she was rushing in for a hug.

"Are you alright now?" She asked and Alexa nodded. "Then," she tapped the tips of her index finger together and nervously asked, "...It wouldn’t be too much to ask for a hug, right?"

"Of course not." Alexa said and carried her off her feet, pressing her head on her shoulder. "I’m not that much of a weakling. See, I can do this much."

"I’m happy, mummy." Rachael said, snuggling herself in her mother’s arms.

Alexa looked down at Romeo who looked like he desperately had something to say.

"Romeo, what is it?" She asked and that was when Rachael remembered she had things to say.

"Mummy, meet my new minion." She announced and Romeo shyly looked aside.

"I only agreed because I’m not a loser who can’t accept his defeat." He said and folded his arms.

"Hm? What happened here?" She asked, directing her gaze to Raymond who was equally clueless.

"They were already playing minions by the time I got out." He said and she looked at Rachael.

"Rachael? How did Romeo become your minion?" She asked and Rachael listed her head in pride.

"Romeo didn’t want to agree that I was older than him so we played three rounds of rock paper scissors. I won in all the rounds and so he’s the younger one and so," she took a deep breath and proclaimed with her head held high. "...He is now my minion. Haha."

Rock paper scissors? What a smart way to deceive a child around her age.

"Come on, my minion. Say hello to my mummy." Rachael called but Romeo still had so much pride that he couldn’t just do what Rachael ordered.

"So all this started because you couldn’t tell who was older?" Alexa asked and Rachael nodded. "Then," she turned to Raymond. "How old is Romeo?"

"He should be turning four in a month." Raymond answered and Alexa nodded. He was still so young yet his stature was very similar to Rachael, if not bigger. It’s no wonder the two argued.

"Romeo, Rachael is older than you." Alexa said with a smile. "And I’m not saying this because she’s my daughter but rather because she’s already been four for a while now and three months from now, she’s going to be five. Do you understand?"

"Yes, ma’am." Romeo said, looking a bit dejected. "Then, is it true that she’s uncle Raymond’s daughter?" He asked and Alexa blinked twice.

"What?"

"She said it herself. She said she was my uncle’s daughter." Romeo repeated and Alexa looked at Rachael who instinctively looked away to avoid looking into her mother’s face.

Alexa also looked at Raymond but he was suddenly in a very important call and was backing them. It seemed none of them wanted to explain the words of this child.

’They are already delusional.’ she thought and shook her head. "Anyway, Romeo, you don’t have to listen to their words. If you’re curious about anything, you can come to me."

"Alright."

"Mummy, when can we go to the amusement park?" Rachael asked out of the blue.

"What amusement park?" Alexa asked and Raymond turned around. So now he was done with his ’important’ call.

"Today is Saturday." He said and cleared his throat. "We previously talked about my treatment method and a fun day out was what you suggested."

Alexa blinked. She almost forgot about that.

"I got the tickets already." He said. "It’s an amusement park."

"Then, are we going out now or...?"

"Let’s go now, can’t we?" Rachael chipped in. "It’s already noon. Please, mummy." She let out the puppy eyes but Alexa blocked them immediately by looking away. She had to be rational with this.

"Where are you guys going?" Romeo asked, seeing as they were talking about a topic he had no idea about.

"The amusement park." Rachael immediately answered. "You wanna come with?"

"Can I?" Romeo asked and she nodded.

"You’ll let him come with us, right mummy?"

Alexa was silent. She was yet to agree to them going and now she was already sending invitations. Well, it wasn’t that bad. And Romeo seemed to be her first friend so it would be okay to go out together... if his parents agreed, of course.

"We can go." Alexa said.

"Yay." Rachael looked excited as she yelled out but the celebration was too soon as Alexa added,

"That is if his parents agree to it. We can’t take someone’s child without getting their parents permission first." She said as she dropped Rachael on her feet.

She stood straight and felt her waist crack. It seemed she wasn’t fully recovered yet. Of course she wasn’t.

"So, will you make the call?" She asked Raymond who nodded and took out his phone.

"Steve, come out to the living room for a while. And if you see Paige on your way here, ask her to tag along." He said and cut the call. "Let’s go to the living room."

"Hm." Alexa held Rachael’s hand and they started leaving to the living room but Romeo seemed to slack behind. Probably because of his short legs.

"Come here." Raymond lifted him off his feet and he smirked while looking down at Rachael.

Rachael felt offended with her mouth open. How dare he shove it in her face?

"Mummy, mummy. Can you carry me? My feets are starting to hurt." She made an excuse and of course, Alexa carried her.

"There. Is this better?" She asked and Rachael nodded, sticking her tongue out at Romeo.

They both engaged in a fierce battle of facial expressions and Alexa found herself laughing.

"What’s funny?" Raymond, whose attention was firmly up front, asked and she shook her head.

"The fact that we’ve been fooled." She said and though Raymond did not understand, he let it be.
