Alexa took Rachael home. She decided to clear her schedule for the rest of the week and check the house thoroughly if there were any more of those mini cameras.

Once she was convinced that there was none, she would start parking up. That wasn’t a one day job so she was glad she decided to clear her schedule.

Driving into the parking lot, Alexa got a call from the building’s security team asking her to come over, an intruder had broken into her apartment.

Shocked, Alexa immediately made her way to the elevator. She was confused. What intruder? And why were things taking turns like this to disturb her mind?

’Please, let it be a false alarm.’ She begged in her mind and opened her eyes.

"Mummy." Rachael asked, clutching tightly on to her mother’s hand. "Your palms are sweaty. Did something happen?"

Alexa looked down at Rachael and shook her head. She wanted to look okay but her heart couldn’t stay at ease.

"Just stay by mummy’s side, okay?" she said and Rachael nodded. She held on with both hands and planned not to let go.

Once the elevator doors opened, Alexa carried Rachael from the ground and into her arms and walked briskly towards their apartment.

As soon as they got there, they found three security guards, someone kneeling on the floor and Serena.

Alexa’s eyes furrowed. What was she doing here?

"Alexa." Serena called as soon as she saw Alexa approaching. The guards, as well as the man on his knees looked up and that was when Alexa saw who it was.

"Javen?" She looked confused. Why was he on his knees like a criminal? Wait, was he the one they were referring to? The intruder?

"Ma’am, are you the owner of this apartment?" One of the security guards asked and Alexa nodded.

"Yes, this is my house." She said, her eyes swiftly darting to Serena and back to the guards. "Can someone tell me what’s going on here?"

"Your sister here claimed to have caught this man snooping inside your apartment." He explained and Alexa turned to Serena.

"What’s going on?"

"You know we parted on hard terms yesterday and I felt bad so I came to apologize." Serena said, acting the good girl but Alexa wasn’t buying it.

Just the other night, she was so adamant not to apologize for what she did, confident that she was in the right but here she was, claiming she wanted to apologize?

What did she take her for? A four year old?

"I asked what’s going on here and not why you’re here, Serena." Alexa said quite coldly and Serena closed her eyes for a moment. She was trying hard to keep her cool and didn’t want to blow up in front of the guards.

"When I walked in, I found this guy snooping around. You know him, right? That guy who ’desperately’ wanted to be in a relationship with you." Serena explained and Alexa felt she was just trying to shame Javen. "Anyway, I asked what he was doing here but he didn’t respond and even tried to run away."

Alexa looked down at Javen with eyes that asked if what Serena was saying was true but Javen chose to avoid eye contact like someone with a lot of guilt.

"And in his bag," Serena continued. "...were these." She took something from the guards and Alexa’s eyes widened. "They look like mini cameras."

"That... Javen." Alexa called in shock. "Look at me, is this true?"

Once again, Javen looked away.

He stayed silent, neither confirming or denying the accusations but since he was caught red handed, they had reasons to take him away to the station.

Alexa was confused. He set up those mini cameras? Why? Was it to spy on her?

Her eyebrows twitched. What was all this nonsense?

She turned her gaze to Serena who pretended to be worried, of course. She knew Serena was behind this. Javen had been nothing but caring and polite. There was no way he would do such a thing.

Hard to take in, Alexa went straight into the apartment and looked round. Nothing was out of place but the cameras she found were gone. Did Javen take them? How did he know where to find them? Was there another camera she had not discovered?

"Alexa." Serena called and Alexa turned. "You’re scaring Rachael." She said with a hidden smirk and Alexa looked at Rachael who stood at the corner. She looked scared and confused.

"Mummy, what’s going on?" Rachael asked with a little silent voice.

"Rachael, I’m sorry." Alexa apologized and knelt before her. She rubbed her eyes with her palms to hide any worry tears that had formed in them. "Mummy just feels a little restless. Don’t worry."

"Alexa, with all that’s happened, why not come to stay with me for the meantime?" Serena suggested and Alexa shot her a glare.

So this was her plan all along? She just knew it. Javen was innocent, but why wouldn’t he speak for himself? Was he being threatened?

There was no way to find out until Serena left. She’d talk to him later on.

"Don’t worry about it." Alexa said and stood to her feet. ’She’ll know I suspect her but it can’t be helped.’

"What do you mean? It’s not safe and I can’t leave you and Rachael here. What if there’s another break in?"

"Don’t worry." Alexa insisted, gritting her teeth at her through her not so friendly smile. "After this incident, the security guards will pay more attention to the security. I think Javen was able to get in because he knew the passcode but don’t worry. I’ll change it." She said and smiled even brighter like she was unaffected.

"I still can’t feel assured." Serena persisted.

"Then what would you have me do? I don’t want to leave." Alexa said, almost to the point of yelling. This startled Serena and Rachael.

Serena’s face contorted as she tried hard and long to keep cool. She closed her eyes and breathed out.

"Since you don’t want to move in with me, I’ll assign a few bodyguards to keep you safe. Let me do this at least." Serena finally said and Alexa’s eyes twitched. She wasn’t going to stop, was she?

She walked towards Serena and leaned over to whisper in her ear.

"I don’t need your help. I’ll solve this myself so just do yourself a favor and get out of here." She harshly said and stepped away.

She looked at Serena with cold murdering eyes and Serena knew she couldn’t have what she wanted this time.

"Fine. When you get into deep shit, you know where to find me." She said and made her way out of there.
