I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 142: Should we go home now?
Rachael got up and attempted to walk out of there but the boy snatched her cardboard and immediately ripped it. The kids were shocked but then they started laughing again as if something really funny had just happened.
Rachael looked at the cardboard and bit down on her lip.
That was a drawing she was preparing to give to Raymond when next they met and now it was ruined. She was sad. She didn’t want to hear any of that any longer. She wasn’t a bastard. She was just unlucky to have her father die early.
But... she didn’t want to be seen as a fatherless child anymore. She wanted to have a father too. She wanted...
Tears brimmed in her eyes while still staring at the torn drawing.
’Mummy, I want to go home.’ She closed her eyes and wiped the tears with her arm.
"Your mummy can’t save you because women are weak." They boy said with a proud smirk. "You bastard shouldn’t be in this class with us. Go find your daddy and come back." He pushed her and she fell back.
"Rachael." Alexa called and Rachael’s eyes widened in surprise. She turned her head, only to see her mummy walking towards her with a pained look in her eyes while also looking furious. "Rachael."
"Mummy?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Alexa carried Rachael from the ground and hugged her.
"My baby. I have been this negligent, haven’t I? I’m sorry. This won’t happen anymore, you hear me?"
"Mummy." Rachael’s eyes gave way to tears and she cried.
Alexa felt her heart cry as well. Her baby had been hurting for so long and she didn’t know. She thought everything was fine simply because she didn’t say anything about it. What sort of mother was she?
Every morning... She walked her to the bus every morning and Rachael laughed happily like she loved going to school. Did that mean that all her excitement about school was fake the whole time?
Really, she couldn’t catch on to her daughter’s act. Why was she so good at acting? She had her fooled for sure and now this happened. If only she spoke up earlier.
"What is the meaning of this?" Alexa’s cold gaze fell on the little boy and his friends and they froze in fear. "Is this what your parents teach you at home?" She turned to Luna. "Is this what your teachers teach you over here as well?"
The kids were all shivering in fear. Alexa looked like she would eat them alive and they couldn’t meet her eyes.
"Women are weak? What about you? Aren’t you ashamed to be picking on a weak little girl? And what? Do you feel big just because you have someone to pick on? You say words that you can’t even understand properly and you feel nothing about it. Why? Because you have your mother and father to back you up? Is that it? Spoiled brats."
She so much wanted to punch this little boy but that would only make her look violent. She turned to Luna.
"I believe you saw everything that happened here." She said and Luna flinched at Alexa’s cold eyes. "I’m taking my daughter with me but this isn’t over. I will come back and I will like to have a word with that brat’s parents. All their parents, in fact." She said, holding
Rachael tight in her arms and started walking out of there.
She gritted her teeth. Rachael, how long had she been suffering such words and humiliation?
This was her fault.
In the car, Alexa didn’t let her daughter down and she, Rachael, also refused to come down.
"My baby." Alexa muttered. "You’ve been suffering, haven’t you?" She stroked her hair.
All those words, she must’ve heard all those words on a daily basis. Was that why she felt desperate to get a father? But it was still strange. She got so attached to Raymond the moment she met him and even if she was indeed desperate, she wouldn’t go for a total stranger.
There was Javen. Why didn’t she get attached to him who has been so nice to her from the beginning?
She clutched onto Rachael tightly. How desperate was she? Should she have to rethink the idea of getting into a relationship?
"Should we go home now?" She asked and Rachael answered,
"I wanna get ice cream."
"Really? Is that what you want?" Alexa asked and Rachael nodded. "Alright."
Alexa watched her daughter as she took gradual scoops of the ice cream and put it in her mouth. This continued for a while till the cup of ice cream had gone half.
Rachael shifted the cup towards her mother.
"Hm? You want me to have the rest?" She asked and Rachael silently nodded. "Okay." She took it and attempted to scoop when she realized the ice cream was already melting.
She waited for a moment and looked up at Rachael who had her eyes glazed on the ice cream cup.
"Rachael, do you know that once an ice cream melts, no matter how long you keep it in the freezer, it will never revert back to its frozen state?" She asked and Rachael raised her head.
"How come?"
"It will get cold, yes but it can never solidify the way it was when it was just newly made." She said and smiled. "And that also works for trust. Once a person’s trust starts melting, it’s hard to get it back to how it used to be."
Rachael once again lowered her head and kept her gaze on the ice cream cup.
"I trust you, Rachael. And I trust that all what you do is out of goodwill and a bit of childish explorations. So from today, there will be no more secrets, do you understand?"
Rachael pursed her lips.
"Do you want my trust in you to start melting, Rachael?" Alexa asked and Rachael shook her head. "Then will you tell me everything that’s going on with you from now on? Will you still hide things from me?"
"I didn’t... I didn’t want mummy to worry." She said. "You’re already very busy as it is, I don’t want to bring you down."
"Rachael, that is not for you to worry about." Alexa said. "I am an adult. I am your mother. It is my job to listen to your worries, tackle any issue and take care of you. If you fall, I will pick you up. If you get beaten, I will fight for you and take care of your wounds. If you cry, I will console you. That is why I am your mother, remember that. And no one can do that job better than me so do not hesitate to tell me everything. I mean it."
"That’s right." Rachael muttered and raised her head, smiling gleefully. "That’s why you’re my mother."
"Rachael."
"I’ll tell you everything, mummy. I’ll also tell you what aunt Serena said."
