I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 140: The pain she was feeling in her heart
Henry had originally been a secret admirer of Serena when the Steins still reigned supreme in the business world.
He could only look at her from afar and marvel at her ’perfection’.
But he couldn’t work in the Steins so he went to work in Ultio with the thought that if he got to a high position and the company started thriving, he would be able to boldly approach Serena.
But Ultio did not even need to thrive much before Serena set her eyes on him. His face was nice to the eyes, great body build and also, he looked timid.
He looked fun to play with, according to Serena.
Serena had her fun with him and toyed with his feelings but he did not resent her. Instead, he was even more infatuated by her. Rather, he was in love with her.
He was in love with a devil who had no remorse for others’ sufferings and only cared for what she’d gain.
Thus, he wanted to be useful to her.
He kept contact with Serena, worked as an errand boy and also gave her necessary information. But because he did not know who the real owner of Ultio was at the time, he could not report to Serena that Raymond was behind everything.
That was the first time Serena glared at him with cold eyes and since then, he felt he had lost half his worth.
That unrequited love he had for her was his driving force, making him do a lot of dirty work on her behalf and making him lower himself to the level Serena liked.
Henry closed his eyes. He had to do something that would occupy Raymond’s attention. He needed to make sure he had no time to come over to Germany anytime soon.
He took out his phone while shoving his fingers in his hair. He dialed a number and waited for the other to pick up.
"Hello, I’m ready for the schedule. Send it to me through mail." He said and the other side responded positively before he cut the call.
He let out a breath and looked at the empty room. The scent of the woman he loved so much, the woman he worshiped, lingered in every corner and it was as if she was still there.
This was driving him crazy. He had to prove his worth to be able to stand confidently next to her. And he didn’t care what he did. He would do anything to get her full recognition.
Alexa sat in front of her laptop and stared at the screen. Her legs were curled up and she stared as if the answers to all her questions were hidden on the screen.
Struck by reality, she lowered her head and sighed. What did she really see to gain from looking at the picture of Raymond’s dead wife.
Yes, the thing she had been looking at so intently was Ariel. She looked so pretty, was smiling carefreely and was loved.
Her hands trailed to her back and she shut her eyes tight.
These types of scars, Ariel didn’t have them, did she? She must’ve been really loved and adored seeing that smile on her face. Her life must’ve been easy. She must’ve been...really happy.
If she were married to Raymond, would she equally be that happy? Not that she wasn’t happy with Rachael but... She saw how happy Rachael was with him so if she learned to like him as a person, would she equally be that happy and free herself from the unknown burden she felt in her heart?
Suddenly, tears started rolling down her cheeks. She raised her head and touched the cheek.
"Tears?" Stunned, her eyes stared into space. Her feelings were hurt. Why were her feelings hurt? Why was she crying?
While being shocked and confused at the sense that she had no clue why her heart felt heavy, she gave into it and cried. The tears rolling down her cheeks drenched her night dress but she couldn’t care about that.
The pain she was feeling in her heart was too unbearable and the worst part was that she didn’t know what that pain was.
"Please, make it stop." She muttered while her body trembled. She hugged herself tight while gripping onto her scarred back. "Please."
The tears still rolled down. She didn’t want to cry any more but her heart was in pain.
What could she do?
A few minutes later, Alexa was able to calm herself. She went to the bathroom and took a bath once more, put her tear drenched night dress in the washer and went back to her study like nothing had happened.
She looked at the screen. Ariel... she threw her face away.
She was probably hurting because there were deep feelings she had for her late husband and yet she couldn’t remember and was thinking of another man.
It was the guilt of the heart.
Alexa sighed and rubbed her eyes with her palm.
"Let’s call it a night." She mumbled and was just about to get up when she received a message on her phone.
She picked it up only to see it was from Serena.
Her eyebrows furrowed as she remembered the show down she had with her in the restaurant. They were yet to come to terms with what she did and Rachael refused to speak of it.
Even when Rachael said it was already in the past, she couldn’t just look past it. For all she knew, there might’ve been other words she said which are still affecting Rachael.
Who knows, one of them might’ve been the reason why Rachael was so attached to Raymond Stein.
"What am I thinking now? Not everything should be blamed on another factor." She told herself and looked at the phone.
Serena’s message was brief as all she wrote was,
"I’m coming over next week and I think I’ll sleep over."
Alexa closed her eyes for a moment before responding to the text.
"You have to come with a good explanation." That was what she sent back.
She looked away, sighed and looked back at her laptop. The image of Ariel was still boldly displayed on the screen. Her smile was so bold, broad and carefree.
It made her wonder, how can two people look so alike and yet have two different personalities? She could never smile so carefree like Ariel. Did she have a reason to?
"Ugh." She immediately closed the laptop and covered her face. "I must be going crazy."
