Chapter 138: So, have we come to a conclusion?

At the end of the fun time at the aquarium, Rachael once again asked Raymond to join them for some desserts.

Alexa was getting even more uncomfortable with Rachael’s persistence but Raymond looked okay with it. He was literally liking every demand Rachael threw at him and this made her realize something.

"When does your plane leave?" Alexa asked Raymond while they had coffee.

"I... I’ll just reschedule it." Raymond said, meaning he had already missed the time of his flight.

"Are you sure you want to be doing this?" Alexa asked him and glanced over at Rachael. "You can always say no."

"But I don’t want to say no." Raymond said and Alexa fell silent.

She nodded and sipped on her coffee. Rachael was sinking in the cake that she had been served and happily drinking cocoa.

Alexa hated to admit it but Rachael looked happier than she ever did with her. Did she secretly long for a father?

How would Alexa know? Rachael wasn’t really the type to talk about her problems. Though she had started opening up, Alexa knew there were still some things she was yet to say.

’Does she want me to get married?’ Alexa thought, bowing her head. She was still young so getting married was always an option but she was always busy. So busy that she sometimes neglected Rachael without even knowing it.

She loved her job and loved her students, as well as treating her patients but then she’d have to make compromises in order to take care of her family.

If she were to get married now, more responsibilities would be added to her daily workload and then she’d only end up tiring herself. So for the meantime, it was best to stay single.

Rachael watched her mother as she lost herself in her train of thoughts and wondered,

’What is mummy thinking about?’ She trailed her eyes over to Raymond who was now looking at his phone and a dreaded feeling filled her. Was it already time for him to leave? She didn’t want him to go.

"Mr Stein." Alexa called and Raymond looked up from his phone. "I gave your proposal a thought."

Rachael’s eyes widened. What sort of proposal? Was her mummy getting married to him already?

Her expectations grew high. That is, until she heard the rest part.

"I can give you therapy sessions on the weekends." Alexa said and Rachael’s hopes crashed down. "And according to my observation, your heart seems to feel more at ease when spending time outside. Have you ever thought of doing some outdoor activities since the incident?"

Raymond shook his head and Alexa closed her eyes. That was to say her speculations were correct.

"I will come to you on weekends but on one condition." She said,

"What is it?"

"You clear out the entire weekend. I don’t care if you have some work to do but what I want to do for you will help you so you’d have to choose. Which is more important? Regaining your peace of mind or your work?"

Raymond was silent. Clearing out his weekend was easy. In the first place, he only took on those hectic schedules just to occupy his mind. But since she was going to keep him busy, he could clear them.

"Alright." Raymond said.

"That’s good. I believe the more outdoor ’fun’ activities you participate in, the more at ease you’ll feel." Alexa confidently said but Raymond shook his head. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"I don’t think it’s that simple." He said and she wondered what gave him that thought.

She watched him as reached out his hand to stroke Rachael’s hair.

"This time, I could only relax this much because of her." He said. "It’s because of Rachael that I had no problem smiling. Don’t know why but that’s how it is."

"In other words," she pursed her lips as she took his words into consideration. "...You want me to bring Rachael along."

The atmosphere suddenly turned heavy and Rachael wondered exactly what they were talking about. She could get fragments of their conversation and put them together but she was at a loss as she couldn’t fully understand everything.

"If it’s too much for you then... "

"No." Alexa shook her head. "It’s alright." She raised her head. "I wasn’t planning on leaving my daughter in the first place."

Raymond’s heart beat normalized as he felt relief course through him for reasons he did not understand.

"So, have we come to a conclusion?" He asked her and she nodded.

"Yes. Every weekend. I will treat you every weekend."

The day came to an end and Rachael had to say goodbye to Raymond. She waved while holding back her tears. She didn’t know what they talked about and she was scared that they wouldn’t see each other again.

"You look like you’re about to cry." Raymond said and approached her. "Don’t cry." He said to her and kissed her forehead. "We’ll see each other next week."

"Really?" Rachael asked, rubbing her eyes with her arm. "Will we see each other?" He nodded and she turned towards her mother. "Really, mummy?"

"Yes. Next week, you and I are going to visit Mr Stein."

"Yay." Rachael screamed in excitement.

"Rachael, I’m starting to think you like this mister more than me." Alexa teased and Rachael giggled.

"Of course not, mummy. But I do like the mister a lot. I wish he were my daddy." She said out of excitement which stunned the both of them.

Staring with wide eyes, Alexa realized Rachael had already thought that far. This was a bit embarrassing. She looked at Raymond who was equally shocked.

"Haha, enough with the jokes, Rachael." She said, intending to brush the topic aside. "Anyway, the mister has to leave so say goodbye."

"Bye, mister." Rachael said which brought Raymond out of his thoughts. He smiled at her and nodded.

"I’ll see you, then."

Alexa watched him walk towards a black car that had been waiting at the side. The driver came down, opened the door for him before he got there and as he entered, shut the door and ran back to his place.

Raymond watched from inside the car, the mother and daughter who were watching him depart and he laid his back on the chair and sighed.

The last words of the little girl played in his head,

"I wish he were my daddy."

The words of a little girl were filled with no impure intentions and that was all she honestly felt.

"Be her daddy." He muttered and closed his eyes.

Alexa had a splitting resemblance to Ariel. If he were to commit such an act and marry her, would Ariel forgive him?

No, he shouldn’t be entertaining those thoughts.

"Head for the hotel. I’m not going back tonight." He said and the driver took heed.
