I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 134: I need to calm down
Alexa did not expect such a proposal. It was so sudden.
"Um, I’ll have to think about it." She said,
"It’s not too much. Just the weekend. Your trip to and fro will be taken care of and I’ll make sure you’re not in any form of discomfort." Raymond assured and though she got what he was saying, she still wanted to think things through.
"I understand but I still need to think about it. I’ll also have to make sure I don’t have any weekend plans scheduled for the future so it may take a while." She said and looked away. "Maybe a day or two. I’ll tell you my decision then."
"Alright. Thank you, Miss Alexa." Raymond said and made his way out of there.
Once he was gone, Alexa breathed out in uncertainty. Today, Raymond talked more than usual. He actually went ahead to say things without being told and he took the initiative towards getting more treatment.
She originally thought he would be a hard patient since he was always unwilling, at some point, to talk about his problems but today, he surprised her.
Not only that... she touched her chest. The pain in it was real. She could feel his pain.
This wasn’t normal. This was the first time she was handling a patient and actually feeling that way.
Why was she getting affected by emotions that weren’t even hers? Was she always a sentimental person? No, that wasn’t it.
"I need to calm down." She told herself and sat on her chair.
Raymond Stein, he held broken emotions that were strangely reaching out to her deeply. Too deep. And she couldn’t understand this.
"Alexa." Jane called as she opened the door.
"Yes, Jane?"
"Um, by any chance, did Rachael come to your office?" Jane asked and Alexa’s eyes widened.
"What do you mean by that? Weren’t you two together?"
"We were but then we started playing hide and seek, you know?"
"Jane." Alexa called angrily. "Don’t you ever learn from past mistakes? Rachael will only play hide and seek with you if she wants to get away from you." She got up and started heading for the door.
Now she was worried.
Rachael always managed to fool Jane and this was why she never liked taking her to the hospital or the school. She wasn’t the type to stay in one place.
Now she could be anywhere. Where would she start looking?
"I’ll go to the entrance to make sure she doesn’t leave the building." Jane said and Alexa nodded.
"I’ll go to the rooftop."
Meanwhile, Rachael, with her little legs, strode through the hospital grounds looking for her mummy. She knew the direction of her office but the problem was the grown ups. If they saw her, they would immediately take hold of her till her mummy was done.
’I am not causing trouble for my mummy with this, am I?’ She wondered and stopped. Thinking this through, she realized that if her mummy started looking for her, she would get worried. ’Let me go back to aunt Jane and wait for mummy there.’
As she turned, she came across a tall man and she stared. From her height, she marveled at his face and the man, in turn, looked down at the little girl staring at him.
Then, he squatted down with one knee on the ground and asked,
"Are you lost?" She shook her head. "Then are you with your mother?"
"She’s working." Rachael said and she saw how the man looked at her. His eyes looked sad and her hands moved on their own.
She touched his face, running gently beneath his eyes and asked,
"Did you cry?"
The man, Raymond, was stunned. This little girl looked so smart. She was also cute and for some reason, reminded him of Ariel.
"No." He answered and closed his eyes.
"Then, are you sad? Your eyes look like they’re missing something. Did you lose your way in this big building? Or are you looking for someone? Is that why you’re sad?" She asked and Raymond opened his eyes.
She was such a caring little thing.
"I am missing something but don’t worry. I’m not lost." He said and held her little hands. They were so small.
This little girl looked like she was about four to five years old and he found himself wondering, if his child was born, it probably would’ve been as big as her and these little hands...they would’ve been the same size, no less.
"Mister." Rachael called and he looked at her face. Her little know it all expression was so cute that he wanted to fondle her cheeks but that might look inappropriate so he refrained from doing so. "You’re handsome but you can cry if you want."
Raymond was silent. Cry? Why would he cry here?
"My mummy says that crying isn’t for the weak. And I believe that if you’re sad and burdened, if you’ve lost something precious, or if you’re feeling stressed at heart, do not hesitate to cry. Crying actually helps, you know." She said and smiled.
Raymond marveled at the wise words of this little girl. Who was her mother? She was very wise and she raised her daughter well.
"By the way, Mister, we’re going to the aquarium today. Would you like to come with us?"
"Us?"
"My mummy and I." She said and once again beamed with a smile. "I bet if you watch the fishes, you’ll feel better."
Raymond was silent. This little girl was speaking English to him very fluently. She didn’t look German so she was probably a foreigner.
"Won’t you go with your father?" Raymond asked her and she passed.
"Well, we would’ve... If he were still alive." She said and Raymond realized he had brought up a wrong topic. "But don’t worry about it. It’s not like I miss him or anything."
"You don’t?" she shrugged her shoulders.
"I can’t really miss what I’ve never experienced, can I? He died before I was born so I do not feel his absence." She said but then her mood suddenly changed. "Though, I do wonder at times what it’s like to actually have a father to spend time with."
"Sorry about that, kid." He said and patted her head.
Seeing his sympathetic look towards her, Rachael immediately took this opportunity to ask what she had in mind.
"Then, will you do this ’kid’ a favor and go to the aquarium with her and her mother?" She asked, her eyes sparkling in anticipation.
"What?"
He definitely did not see that one coming.
