I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 107: Am I doing the right thing?
The next morning, Ariel refused to leave her room till Raymond left for work. It was clear that something happened when he stopped himself from going further and he wondered if that was what she was mad about.
He didn’t want to touch her not because he saw her as filth or anything of that sort but rather because he was afraid that she wasn’t yet healed. The way she looked so frightened when he reached out for her still haunted him so he didn’t want to make that same mistake.
His negligence to her condition that time made her tremble so he was not confident that he would be able to handle breaking her with that same negligence.
It was already three months since then but he couldn’t be so sure. But if that was what she was mad about then, he wondered what he would do.
"Steve, Ariel’s mad at me." Raymond said to Steve over the phone.
"How come? Did you make a mistake?" Steve asked him.
"I don’t know. Last night, while we were being intimate, I stopped myself from going further and since then, she refused to see me. Could the reason why she’s mad be because I held out?" He asked and Steve’s pen fell from his hand.
"Wait, how long has this been going on?" He asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Did you perhaps hold out since, you know... Then?"
"Yes. I haven’t touched her since then." He answered and Steve almost gasped.
"Seriously, sometimes I wonder if you’re an idiot."
"Steve." Raymond called strictly.
"I know, I know. But, for someone who’s more than convinced that her body is filled with filth, the best thing to do is assure her and sleep with her. Why hold out so long?"
"She was hurt, Steve. And you were the one who told me to give her space and let her heal. I didn’t want to make a mistake."
"Yeah but that was three months ago. A month or two was enough for her to recuperate but it’s been three freaking long months. Of course she’d get mad." He suddenly realized something. "Wait, did she cry?"
"I don’t... " Raymond pursed and remembered the sound of her voice. It didn’t sound like she was completely fine and he couldn’t be so sure that she was crying either so he couldn’t answer clearly. "I don’t know. She locked herself in her room."
"Raymond, I understand you’re dense when it comes to things like this and you’re scared of hurting her so I won’t blame you but you’re filling her with so many insecurities. Right now, she probably wants you to hold her tight, embrace her and assure her that she’s not the filth her mind tells her she is."
"So you’re telling me that right now, she’s self hating herself?"
"Probably."
Raymond’s eyebrows furrowed and he palmed his face in regret. He had made yet another mistake even when he tried hard not to make one. He boasted about protecting her and making sure she would never get hurt but he was obviously hurting her heart and her mind.
This was difficult. Was loving someone so difficult that they must get hurt one way or the other?
"Steve, what should I do?" He asked.
"If you’re not too busy, get off work early. Prepare to take her out. Eat something nice in a nice place with a nice view. And then, set the mood right. You two, you can do whatever your heart is set on. Don’t hold back."
"Am I doing the right thing?"
"Hey, you’re not forcing her into it. She wants you. She wants you to love and embrace her. If anything, you’re doing the wrong thing by holding back. Fix this mess and put her heart to rest." He concluded and cut the call.
He gave out a heavy sigh, leaned his back on his chair and looked up at the ceiling. It was from one problem to another with those two.
Raymond pondered on Steve’s words. It was good to be careful but being too careful can harm the next person. His extra precaution was probably killing Ariel inside.
"I need to set things straight." He pressed the button on the telephone next to him and picked it up.
"What can I do for you, Mr Raymond?" His assistant, whose office was just right outside his, asked.
"How is my schedule?" He asked her.
"You have a meeting scheduled at 2 o’clock. That is all." She said and he sighed in relief.
"Cancel it. And if anybody asks after me, tell them off. I’m leaving for today." He said and dropped the telephone, cutting the call.
The assistant looked at the telephone in confusion.
"What?"
She hadn’t heard about Raymond canceling any meetings. She was new to the company and while working as Raymond’s assistant, she noticed that Raymond was very hard working, took his work as his priority and never missed out on an appointment. So for him to suddenly cancel the meeting.
Raymond opened his door and walked out. She watched him leave and wondered what was so important that he was leaving the office so early.
Though she was curious, she didn’t dare to ask. As much as she looked up to her boss, she couldn’t help but feel a certain chilly and cold atmosphere around him. Plus, he was scary.
"I will do as I am told." She told herself and proceeded to cancel the meeting.
Twelve in the afternoon, Ariel sat relaxed in the living room. She did not expect Raymond to be back at such a time so she carelessly left her room.
Sitting comfortably with her legs on the couch, she ate a bag of chips and watched a funny show on the gigantic screen TV. Her mood had been a bit sour so she decided to watch something funny and let loose.
While laughing, her eyes suddenly darted to the entrance of the living room and there, she saw Raymond. Standing with a little disheveled look, a flower bouquet in his left hand and a box of chocolate in his right.
Stunned by his appearance, Ariel moped and her chip fell from her hand. What was he doing at home at such an hour and why... Why was he looking like that? Those were the questions she wanted to ask but before she knew it, Raymond was already charging towards her for reasons she didn’t know and out of instinct, she started running as well.
Heading towards the stairs, Ariel discovered Raymond was right on her tail.
"Why are you running away?" Raymond asked her as he tried to catch up with her.
"It’s because you’re chasing me." She said,
"But I just want to give you a hug." Raymond said and Ariel paused in her tracks.
He immediately caught up to her and hugged her tightly from behind. His breathing and her breathing unstable from the little exercise.
Ariel realized he was telling the truth. He just wanted to hug her, so why was she running when she saw him running towards her?
