Chapter 102: I hate you

Ariel walked out of the shed and silently closed the door after her. Raymond saw her and hurried towards her.

"How was it? Did he hurt you?" He asked and Ariel slowly lifted her gaze to look at him. She had a sad smile on and eyes that spelt a lot.

Scared that White really did something to her, Raymond’s eyes grew.

"That bastard!" He attempted to charge in but Ariel held him back.

"Nothing happened." She said, "I’m just feeling a bit out of it."

With her gaze aside, Raymond knew she was hiding something.

"Ariel, what did he say to you?" He asked her but she remained silent, dwelling on the words she heard. "Ariel."

"You know... I feel really bad right now." She said and he flinched. "Can I just be alone for a moment?"

"Ariel, what did he say to you?" Raymond demanded to know. She looked into his serious eyes and knew he wouldn’t let her go with it so she nodded.

"We talked." She said, "I said..."

Recalling...

After Ariel said what she wanted to say, a short silence followed before White spoke up.

"Are you always so full of yourself?" He asked which surprised her but she did not refute it. "You suffer and wish for goodness and when you get goodness, you feel it so unreal that you don’t want to live with it. Do you think everything will work in your favor? The world isn’t simple"

Ariel was silent. Of course she knew the world wasn’t simple. She experienced all the awful things, first hand. There was no way she would assume the world was simple.

That wasn’t what she intended when she said those words to him but if he interpreted it like that then he certainly had something against her. But what was it?

"Don’t get ahead of yourself." White said, jolting her out of her thoughts and she looked at his back, feeling deep hatred coming from him.

He definitely had something against her.

"You’re someone who got picked from the dust so you should act your part and be a useful person to him, and not be picky about your circumstances. It’s sickening."

White finally turned around and she saw his face. His eyes were deep in and his eyelids looked really dark and heavy.

His cheeks were drawn in like someone who’s life force was slowly being drained.

That poised and extremely delicate, yet strict face had turned into something she could no longer recognize.

"You stick by the boss’s side and do everything with him. You live your life under his wings and yet you still have the time to complain. What? Is it not good enough for you? Do you want something more? You want to own his entire body? You’re already doing a lot of damage to him and ruining his perfect personality as it is, what more do you want?"

Ariel’s lips slightly parted. The angry look in White’s eyes, his fierce temper towards the things she did with Raymond... She was starting to get it. The reason why he did what he did.

"Do I... " Her words hung on her throat and slowly, she gulped it down. "...look like a sore thumb in your eyes?"

"Yes." White fiercely answered, looking at her in disdain. "You... If you didn’t show up, MY master wouldn’t have changed. He would’ve remained indifferent, perfect and nonchalant to everything that brought him no gain. You... He said you were useful but when you no longer had any use left, he still kept you by his side. It’s maddening. Why... If he was going to change... Why did he change after YOU arrived?"

The gravity of his words reached Ariel deep inside her gutt and she gulped down. White was... He was blaming her for changing Raymond? A perfect person? Did such a person even exist?

In her eyes, he was good and way beyond her standards. He was like a god, doing everything to perfection but he was not perfect. He said it himself, he was human and humans were never perfect. He wasn’t perfect.

Seeing the look on White’s face, one would be compelled to think that there really was a perfect human being and that perfect human happened to be Raymond. In his eyes, Raymond was perfect?

But she couldn’t get the reason why he was so mad. What exactly did she do to taunt his perfection? Was it because he started caring?

Unlike the first few moments of their lives together, Raymond had become someone who truly cared for her well-being. Was that it?

"Your fucking appearance changed everything." White accused her and gritted his teeth. His chains rang in a terrifying manner and she flinched. "He was perfect. I stood by his side and was always behind him as his shadow and I was happy to see him every single time. I was the one he called every time he raised his head but after you came..." He clenched his fists tightly, causing the chains to clank once more. "I just wanted you out of the picture so that we could go back to how we were. But in the end... I dug my own grave."

Wait a minute. Ariel’s eyes widened in disbelief. If her reasoning was right then White wasn’t just being loyal or filled with admiration for his boss. He was infatuated. He was... She covered her mouth in disbelief and looked aside. How did that happen? No, when did that happen?

How would she even know? It was possible he felt that way from the beginning before she came into the picture. Then that means she came in between his chances of being with him?

No, Raymond is straight. There was no way it would work but White would still blame her regardless. He was content with the relationship they had in the past but after she arrived, it seemed things were falling apart for him. Then did he do this out of jealousy? Envious that she was closer to Raymond than he ever could?

"But I’m as much a soldier as you are." Ariel suddenly said, causing White to glare at her hatefully.

"Foolish girl. Do you think the Boss would do all this if he didn’t hold some sort of feelings for you? A soldier?" He laughed sarcastically and returned his bitter gaze to her. "He’s too scared to let you go to the bathroom alone, what sort of soldier are you?" He asked her. "It’s very hateful. You succeeded in stealing his heart and yet you come here to act oblivious in front of me. I want to kill you right now. I want you out of his life. I want you to disappear without a trace and then maybe Boss will glance at me."

"You’re talking nonsense." Ariel said to him in defense. She looked restless. "You don’t know what you’re saying. Raymond probably only considered you as a friend and as for me... There’s no way Raymond would have feelings for me. I’m filthy."

"Shut up." White aggressively yelled at her. "Hearing you makes me want to kill you more. I acknowledge that he would at most see me as a friend but you... You’re filthy? He thinks you’re filthy and he lets you call him by name? He thinks you’re filthy and yet he kisses you in every part of your body, shares a bed with you and even went as far as having fucking sex with you. Are you that oblivious or are you just acting dumb to piss me off?"

His words made sense and the hostility that was coming from him was real. Too real. He truly despised her.

Ariel was left speechless. What could she say? She was indeed acting oblivious. Even when the facts were right in front of her, she refused to acknowledge it and stubbornly stuck to the reasoning that Raymond needed her for her body.

Till now, that was all she could think. That was the only reasonable reasoning to her. But White had already made his conclusion, there was nothing she could do now.

"White." She called his name, pursed her lips and looked with a pained expression. "I thought of you as a friend. What about you?"

"I hate you." White spat out and her heart hurt. "I never once considered you a friend. I got close to you and followed you around on orders. And when I saw a perfect chance to dispose of you, I took it. Honestly, if I have the chance to do it again, I will take it. That’s how much I hate you."

His words ended and only the clanking sounds of his chains were heard. They were as sharp as a knife and really painful too.

Ariel felt more pain than she anticipated. He hated her that much yet she always fantasized about them having a friendly relationship. In the end, it was all her wishful thinking.

She got up and headed for the door. At the door, she stopped and turned to smile at him. Her smile was bitter and sad and she held in the tears that were building up in her.

"White," she called. "... You know the saying that ’people do crazy things for love’." She said and nodded her head. "Your level of crazy was extreme but I... I know all too well what lengths a person would go to in desperation so, I forgive you."

"To hell with your forgiveness." White spat at her sincerity and she nodded.

"Yeah, we’ll certainly see each other there, no doubt." She tried smiling brighter before walking out.
