His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 45: Are You Really Going to Leave with Him?
After Hannah Lowell was dragged out, the hospital room instantly fell silent.
Kiana Sutton pinched the bridge of her nose, exhausted to the extreme.
Hannah’s words were like a demonic chant drilling into her ears, echoing again and again, making her heart ache terribly.
Ethan Sinclair didn’t care about her at all, how could he possibly come to the hospital to see her?
To him, she was nothing more than someone to atone for her father’s sins, someone to help him relieve his desires.
She knew this even better than anyone, yet every time she thought of divorce, thought about her and Ethan Sinclair becoming strangers with nothing to do with each other, her chest hurt so much she could hardly breathe.
When Amy Manning and Evan Shepherd found out Kiana Sutton was hospitalized, they rushed to visit her at the hospital.
After fussing over Kiana Sutton for a bit, Amy Manning gossiped, "Kiana, lucky you took leave recently. You have no idea, President Sinclair’s been like he swallowed a stick of dynamite these past two days—scolding anyone he sees, making the whole company nervous and gloomy."
Kiana Sutton smiled faintly without saying anything.
"The wildest part is, President Sinclair actually has a wound on his face! Everyone’s guessing who grew such a spine to hit President Sinclair in the face."
Kiana Sutton felt a bit complicated inside.
"Everyone assumes whoever hit President Sinclair is definitely doomed, but there are also rumors maybe someone cuckolded him. Only thing is, all anyone knows is President Sinclair has a girlfriend in a coma, never heard about any other woman. Could it be..."
Thinking of something, Amy Manning’s eyes widened in disbelief, "Don’t tell me someone got devious and slept with President Sinclair’s comatose girlfriend?"
Kiana Sutton: "..."
Only Amy Manning could come up with something like this!
Evan Shepherd cut in speechlessly, "Stop talking nonsense, watch your mouth or you’ll get in trouble."
Amy Manning mimed zipping her lips, no longer daring to gossip about Ethan Sinclair.
"Kiana Sutton in Room 33, come pick up your medicine."
Hearing the doctor call, Amy Manning immediately stood up. "Evan, you stay with Kiana, I’ll go get the meds."
"Okay..."
After Amy Manning left, Kiana Sutton looked at the exhausted, dark-eyebagged Evan Shepherd and gestured, "Evan, what’s going on with you? Did something happen?"
Evan Shepherd froze for a moment. He didn’t expect all his careful covering up to still be seen through by Kiana Sutton.
Kiana Sutton had enough troubles of her own; Evan Shepherd didn’t want her worrying about him, so he smiled, "It’s nothing. Just been too tired lately, haven’t rested well."
Kiana Sutton didn’t think much of it, only told Evan Shepherd to take care of himself and get some rest.
The two of them didn’t stay long before leaving.
During Kiana Sutton’s hospitalization, Joshua Sutton came to keep her company every evening after school.
On weekends, he stayed at the hospital the whole day.
Kiana Sutton worried this would affect his studies, so she tried to persuade him earnestly, "Joshua, just focus on your classes. You don’t have to worry about me."
Joshua Sutton peeled a tangerine, feeding half to Kiana Sutton’s mouth, and popped the other half into his own.
He chewed while smiling at Kiana Sutton, "I can study here too."
The bruises on his face still hadn’t healed; when he smiled, it tugged at his injury and hurt so much it made him grimace, his brows knitting together.
Joshua Sutton looked handsome, and though he was only a senior in high school, he was already six feet tall. He wore a white T-shirt, messy black hair, full of youthful energy.
Every time the young nurses came to change Kiana Sutton’s dressing and saw Joshua Sutton, they’d affectionately call him "little brother," and loved hearing him call them "big sister."
Someone even brought a boiled egg back from the cafeteria, peeled it, and wanted to give it to Joshua for a hot compress.
Joshua Sutton didn’t like others touching him. He took the egg from the nurse, thanked her, and handed it straight to Kiana Sutton.
"Sis, I’ll read, you give me a compress."
Seeing Joshua’s bright smile, Kiana Sutton was a bit helpless; she could only take the egg and start rolling it over his face.
The siblings—one gently rolling the egg on her brother’s bruises, hoping to reduce swelling, disperse the blood; the other immersing himself in a chemistry book, studying what chemical reaction two elements might make when mixed together.
The atmosphere was as warm as could be, making others look on with envy.
However, this scene was soon interrupted by an uninvited guest.
Ethan Sinclair walked into Kiana Sutton’s hospital room with a cold expression.
When Kiana Sutton saw Ethan Sinclair, she froze at first, then grew nervous and worried, afraid Ethan and Joshua would fight again. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Sure enough, as soon as Joshua Sutton spotted Ethan Sinclair, he bristled up like a porcupine, tossed aside his book, and stood in front of Kiana with arms spread, guarding her, eyes full of fury and vigilance at Ethan Sinclair.
"What are you doing here?"
Ethan Sinclair’s face looked dark and terrible, his gaze grew colder and murkier when he saw the boiled egg in Kiana’s hand.
He didn’t even spare Joshua a glance, just looked at Kiana and spoke icily, "How long do you intend to stay in the hospital?"
Joshua Sutton’s anger spiked the instant he saw Ethan. "What do you mean by that? You kicked my sister and won’t even let her stay in the hospital to recover?"
Ethan Sinclair completely ignored Joshua, keeping his eyes locked on Kiana, not wavering in the slightest.
"Are you going home to recuperate, or staying here in the hospital?"
Kiana Sutton couldn’t quite figure out what Ethan was thinking. Was he... here to take her home?
"Ethan Sinclair, what’s with your attitude?"
Seeing Kiana silent for so long, Ethan lost patience. "I’ll give you a count of three to decide. Either keep staying here with your dear little brother enjoying your cozy moments, or go home with me."
"One..."
Joshua glared at Ethan, feeling the frustration of throwing a punch and landing it in nothing but cotton.
"Sis, don’t listen to him!"
"Two..."
Kiana was well aware Ethan had no patience. Once he finished counting to three, he’d definitely leave.
No time to think, she shoved a bank card into Joshua’s hand and anxiously gestured, "Joshua, there’s over ten thousand yuan on here. Take it and use it slowly. Don’t let Mom know, and stop going out to work part-time."
Joshua looked down at the card in his hand, feeling wretched. "I don’t want it!"
He tried to hand the card back, but Kiana clenched his hand tight around it, refusing to let go.
"The only thing you need to do now is study hard. If you ever run out of money, ask me. My salary’s gone up, and I’ve got plenty of bonuses."
"Sis..."
"Don’t make me worry, okay?"
Joshua gripped the bank card so tightly his eyes turned red.
"You’re really... going with him?"
Ethan Sinclair’s gaze had never left Kiana. She braced herself and nodded.
"Fine!"
Joshua turned to glare coldly at Ethan Sinclair. "Ethan Sinclair, you listen to me. Maybe right now I don’t have the power to go up against you, but that doesn’t mean I never will. If I ever find out you hurt my sister again, I swear I won’t let you off!"
To Ethan, Joshua’s threat was like a little puppy yapping in vain—he didn’t even bother responding.
Still, his mood seemed much better. Seeing Kiana struggle to get out of bed, he strode over and scooped her up around the waist.
