His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 35: Won’t Auntie Make You Kneel on Durian?
Kiana Sutton never expected the person behind all this would actually be Quinn Sinclair. She pressed her forehead in speechless frustration.
Sure enough, besides those ravenous enemies, you always have to guard against your own people too.
Because you never know when you’ll get stabbed in the back.
"Quinn, hurry up and take all that stuff down!"
"No way, if I take it down, my brother will suspect we’re teaming up just to mess with him. When that happens, it’s not just you, I’ll die a horrible death too!"
Kiana was just about to type something when Quinn sent another message: "Sis, don’t worry, I’ve got the rest all arranged. Just leave it be for now and go check out my brother’s reaction. Hmph~ Someone is publicly confessing to his wife right in front of his company. There’s no way he won’t get jealous."
Kiana’s heart skipped a beat.
Would Ethan Sinclair really get jealous?
She looked up cautiously across the room, only to find Ethan’s figure already gone — he’d left the restaurant at some point without her noticing.
Only Stella Lyn was left, staring at Kiana and striding toward her step by step.
Stella looked absolutely triumphant, her grin practically splitting her face. "Kiana Sutton, you’re done for."
Kiana ignored Stella, but her mood was terrible.
Because of that confession, the formerly quiet Kiana suddenly became a sensation at Evercrest Group.
Almost everyone had heard about the pretty mute sweetheart in the Planning Department, and there was a countless stream of people making up excuses to come see her.
Kiana kept worrying Ethan would come looking for trouble, but after a whole afternoon, except for a few messages from Quinn, her phone stayed completely quiet.
Kiana’s emotions grew more tangled and conflicted.
If Ethan did come to make trouble, at least it’d show she still mattered to him a bit.
But if someone else confessed to her and Ethan couldn’t care less, then he really, truly didn’t give a damn about her.
"Kiana Sutton, Evan Shepherd, you two will handle the amusement park proposal together. Have the plan drafted and on my desk by Monday morning."
After Harold Young left the company, Ethan hired a headhunter and paid top dollar for a professional manager who’d just returned from overseas.
Her name was Crystal Payne. The moment she arrived, she made it clear she meant business. All the bad habits left in the Planning Department disappeared without a trace in her hands.
When it was time to clock out, Evan Shepherd came to find Kiana.
"Kiana, any ideas for this proposal?"
Kiana shook her head. Her brain had been filled with nothing but Ethan all afternoon; she hadn’t been in the mood to even look at the proposal.
"It’s hard to just imagine it without seeing. How about this? Tomorrow’s Saturday anyway, let’s go to the amusement park together for some fieldwork. Maybe inspiration will strike."
Before Kiana could write anything down, Evan added, "This is our first time working together. It’s also the first assignment from our new manager. We have to do an excellent job."
Evan’s work enthusiasm and positivity rubbed off on Kiana. She took a deep breath, pushed thoughts of Ethan out of her mind for the moment, and nodded.
Evening.
When Kiana got home, Ethan still hadn’t come back.
After dinner, she headed to her room to look up information on amusement parks on her computer.
Unfortunately, the computer had been with her for five or six years now, the parts were old, and it lagged like crazy.
She glanced at her bank balance and finally decided to wait until payday to buy a new one.
By eleven o’clock, Ethan still wasn’t home. Kiana had just finished washing up and crawled into bed when she got a WeChat from Joy Morgan. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Kiana, are you asleep?"
"Not yet, what’s wrong?"
"We’ve got a big event at the mall tomorrow, so I can’t look after Willow. Can you watch her for the day?"
Kiana met Joy Morgan when visiting Gordon Sutton in prison, right outside the gates.
Joy’s boyfriend had been sentenced to eight years for intentional homicide. She’d go to the prison often to see him, but the guards never once let her in.
Kiana saw several times how Joy was stopped outside, so she’d have Gordon pass along a message to Joy’s boyfriend.
Over time, Kiana and Joy became good friends.
Willow was Joy’s sister’s daughter. Joy’s sister died young, so Joy raised Willow herself.
Willow was sweet and sensible, and Kiana liked her a lot.
"Sure, I’ll come pick Willow up tomorrow."
"Mwah mwah, thank you, darling Kiana baby!"
Kiana let out a laugh, then suddenly remembered she was supposed to go to the amusement park tomorrow with Evan for the field study, so she messaged him.
"I don’t mind at all—I love kids. See you tomorrow."
Ethan didn’t come home that entire night.
The next morning, Kiana picked up Willow first, then went to the amusement park to meet Evan Shepherd.
...
"Uncle, I’m already six. I don’t want to go to the amusement park."
Ethan shot a cold look at his nephew. "You think you actually have a say in this?"
Quincy Wyatt looked like he was going to explode. "But today’s my birthday! Isn’t the birthday boy supposed to be king?"
Ethan gave a cold snort. "You’re just a little brat. Don’t get ahead of yourself."
Quincy: "..."
Dictator!
Cold-blooded!
Heartless!
Outrageous!
"Uncle, acting like this—aren’t you afraid Auntie will make you kneel on durian?"
Mentioning Kiana, Ethan’s brows furrowed, his face darkening a little. "She wouldn’t dare!"
Quincy huffed, thoroughly annoyed. "Where there’s oppression, there’s resistance. If a gentle, handsome guy goes after Auntie, she’ll definitely dump you."
Quincy really had a knack for saying the worst things possible. Ethan’s face turned even uglier.
Suddenly, Ethan’s phone started ringing.
"Speak!"
"Bro, are you there yet? I think I just saw my sis-in-law with a little girl and some dude at the amusement park."
"Whose kid?"
"How would I know? Need me to go ask for you?"
"No need!"
Hanging up, Ethan barked coldly at Connor Grant, who was driving, "Step on it."
It was the weekend, so the amusement park was packed. Every ride had a long line.
Kiana noticed Willow’s cheeks were flushed, so she took her to get some ice cream.
"Kiana, can I have this one? The bunny ears are so pretty."
Kiana smiled and nodded, taking a headband with bunny ears and putting it on Willow’s head. Willow had big, round eyes and chubby little cheeks—absolutely adorable.
"Willow has one, so shouldn’t Kiana have one too?"
Evan grabbed a red fox-eared headband and tried to put it on Kiana.
Kiana instinctively backed away. When she saw Evan’s hand awkwardly frozen in the air, she felt a little embarrassed herself.
"I’ll pass, thanks."
Willow understood sign language, so on this little outing, she basically played the role of tiny translator.
"You should, you should! Willow wants to see Kiana wear it too."
Evan, being a gentleman, handed the fox ears to Willow. "Why don’t you help Kiana put it on?"
"Okay~"
Evan picked Willow up. Kiana could refuse Evan, but she couldn’t say no to Willow.
When Ethan arrived at the amusement park, the first thing he saw was Evan holding a little girl with bunny ears, and that little girl was putting a fox-eared headband on Kiana.
The scene looked so warm and happy that a surge of nameless anger rushed from his limbs right up to his chest...
