Chapter 36: Chapter 36: He Thinks He’s Gone Crazy

"Sis-in-law!"

Hearing a familiar voice, Kiana Sutton turned her head and saw Quinn Sinclair waving at her.

Quinn!

Kiana smiled at Quinn Sinclair, then immediately saw Ethan Sinclair’s sullen face.

Meeting his cold, sharp gaze, Kiana’s heart jolted violently.

Ethan Sinclair? Why is he here? And why does he look so pissed?

Remembering that Evan Shepherd was around, and guessing that Ethan didn’t want anyone at work to know they were married, Kiana quickly gave Quinn Sinclair a knowing look.

Quinn, clever as ever, caught on instantly.

"Hey, Kiana! I can’t believe I ran into you here. What brings you around?"

"My colleagues and I need to put together an amusement park project proposal, so we’re here to check things out."

As soon as Evan Shepherd saw Ethan Sinclair, he gave a respectful nod. "President Sinclair."

Ethan Sinclair’s dark eyes swept over Evan Shepherd coolly. "Evercrest Group is lucky to have employees as dedicated as you."

Then, his chilly gaze landed on Kiana Sutton.

Under Ethan Sinclair’s stare, Kiana felt the hairs on her scalp stand up. She’d been feeling hot just now, but suddenly she felt icy all over.

"Hey, it’s rare for us all to bump into each other like this—and it’s my nephew’s birthday! How about we form a little group and play together?"

Only then did Kiana notice Quincy Wyatt. Since she and Ethan Sinclair never had a wedding, and she’d met just a few from the Sinclair Family, she naturally didn’t know Quincy Wyatt.

Even though Ethan didn’t love her, she was still his wife. As long as they weren’t divorced, Quincy was technically her nephew.

She hadn’t brought a gift, so she figured whatever Quincy Wyatt played today, she’d just pay for everything. She nodded in agreement.

Evan Shepherd of course had no objections. Getting to hang out with President Sinclair and his family? What an honor.

If he played his cards right with the boss’s family, maybe there’d be a raise or a promotion in the works.

With that thought, Evan Shepherd became even more enthusiastic.

No matter where they went, he rushed ahead to pay; Kiana didn’t even get a chance to spend any money.

Luckily, with two kids around, things didn’t feel awkward or boring.

Except...

Ethan Sinclair was dressed in a black suit, his aura overbearing, his face icy, totally out of place in this childlike amusement park.

Kiana’s attention was glued to Ethan Sinclair the whole time. When everyone else went off to play, he sat off to the side with a cold face, not saying a word, and managing to look absolutely terrifying.

Near the Ferris wheel, Evan Shepherd tried to impress, speaking respectfully to Ethan Sinclair: "President Sinclair, would you care for a ride on the Ferris wheel?"

Ethan Sinclair shot him a frosty look. He didn’t speak, but his eyes said: "Do I look like someone who likes Ferris wheels?"

Seeing this, Kiana secretly WeChatted Quinn Sinclair: "Quinn, you take Willow and Quincy for a ride on the Ferris wheel—I’ll stay here with Ethan."

"Okay. My brother’s a big kid in a bad mood right now—be careful," Quinn replied.

Kiana: "..."

There were so many people here—Ethan Sinclair shouldn’t try to mess with her, right?

The Ferris wheel could seat just four people, so Quinn took the two kids and dragged Evan Shepherd along as well. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

As noon approached, the weather got hotter and hotter. Kiana noticed the sweat beading on Ethan Sinclair’s forehead, so she bought a can of iced coffee and handed it to him.

Ethan Sinclair’s mood was about as awful as it could get. He figured he must be out of his mind to bring Quincy Wyatt here just to roast in the sun.

Also, he could clearly just leave—so why...

The more he thought, the more annoyed he got, teetering right on the edge of exploding.

Seeing Ethan Sinclair not taking the coffee, Kiana popped open the pull-tab for him and handed it over again.

"You want me to drink canned coffee?"

Kiana knew Ethan was picky. She set the coffee on the table in front of him, gesturing, "The owner swears this brand’s great, and it was the most expensive—twenty-two bucks a can!"

Ethan Sinclair: "..."

Twenty-two bucks a can? Is that even drinkable?

When he saw the sweat running down Kiana’s forehead and nose, Ethan Sinclair frowned, picked up the coffee, and took a sip.

Not exactly nasty, but not especially good either.

"What about you?"

Seeing Ethan Sinclair care, Kiana’s heart leapt with happiness. "I’ve got mine!"

Kiana fished out a two-yuan bottle of mineral water from her bag, twisted off the cap, and took two big swigs.

Maybe it was just too hot, but her cheeks were flushed. Watching her lips press to the bottle, someone’s eyes darkened and he felt even hotter.

Kiana had barely finished drinking when she saw Ethan Sinclair had left already. She glanced at the still-spinning Ferris wheel, sent Quinn a message, and hurried after Ethan.

"Where are you going?"

"You expect me to stand out here, in this hellish sun, just to wait for people?"

Kiana glanced around. There didn’t seem to be any shaded spots to sit.

The next thing she knew, Ethan Sinclair grabbed her and yanked her into the haunted house nearby.

It was much cooler inside. Just standing by the entrance, Kiana suddenly felt a lot better.

But staring at the pitch-black, bloodstained, claustrophobic scene, she still felt pretty scared.

She really didn’t like haunted houses.

Noticing Kiana’s fear, Ethan Sinclair snorted. "Didn’t you say you were here to check out the amusement park? Can’t even handle a haunted house, so what’s there to inspect?"

Ethan Sinclair had already turned and walked deeper in. Kiana gritted her teeth—hadn’t he said these amusement park attractions were all childish? So why go into a haunted house?

She knew it was all actors in there, but seeing Ethan go in, Kiana couldn’t help worrying about him. After hesitating, she followed.

With creepy music and blood-splattered props, Kiana was scared out of her wits. She dashed ahead several steps but never caught sight of Ethan Sinclair.

Worst of all, there’d been a crowd before, but now, in this huge haunted house, she seemed to be the only one left. She couldn’t even call out, so she had no choice but to keep running forward, heart racing.

Suddenly, a strong hand yanked her arm, and she was dragged into a "prison cell."

Ah...

Kiana was terrified—she wanted to scream, but no sound came out.

There was a scary NPC inside the cell. Seeing someone enter, he was about to do his bit—when a bone-chilling, icy voice sounded: "Out."

Heh, not only wasn’t this guy scared, he actually told him to get lost?

Fine. Time to show him what he could do.

"Ooooh, rahhh~ hoooo... ooohoo~"

The NPC bounced towards Ethan Sinclair and Kiana, but before he could whip back his hair and scare them with his bloodied, lolling tongue, someone kicked him clean out of the cell.

The NPC landed hard on his ass, gritting his teeth in pain.

Holy shit, what a jerk! Who kicks an NPC?!

"Emergency announcement: Situation in the haunted house. All NPCs and players must leave immediately!"

"Emergency announcement: Situation in the haunted house. All NPCs and players must leave immediately!"

The haunted house’s broadcast sounded frantically. Everyone immediately searched for the exit and scrambled to get out.

Kiana wanted to run, too, but Ethan Sinclair had her pinned against the cell wall—she couldn’t move at all...
