Heavenly Blessed Baby: Fleeing Famine, Busy to Prosper!-Chapter 186: Sharp Tongue, Soft Heart
"Huh? Set up a stall?"
Mu Yunniang’s eyes widened in shock: "We’re setting up a stall? Is this even possible?"
"Whether it’s possible or not, won’t we know once we try?"
Yi Meng smiled gently, "Alright, Third Sister-in-law, come, help me with the fish balls."
"Oh, oh."
Though Mu Yunniang was still a bit anxious, she obediently started learning hands-on.
To be honest, making fish balls doesn’t require much skill, especially for a woman like Mu Yunniang who learned to cook from a young age; she picked it up quickly.
With Mu Yunniang joining in, the speed increased significantly.
When Wang Daya and Qu Laodi came in, they saw this scene and hurried to wash their hands to help.
The four sisters-in-law chatted and laughed, working even faster.
"By the way, where’s the fifth sister-in-law? I haven’t seen her around."
Wang Daya suddenly remembered something and asked Yi Meng.
Yi Meng shook her head, "I’m not sure either, maybe she went out to buy meat!"
Qu Laodi quickly added, "That should be it. I noticed the fifth one wasn’t home either, and they were talking to your second brother when he left, maybe they went out together."
Hearing this, no one said anything more.
Going out to buy things, they’ve all experienced it.
In this freezing weather, there’s not much to browse around, so there’s no envy.
A pot of fish balls floated up and down in the soup, looking quite fun. Qu Laodi even used a spoon to push two down, but as soon as the spoon was lifted, those two balls floated up again.
Wang Daya laughed and scolded, "Second sister-in-law, look at you, acting like a child!"
"Heh heh, they just look like dumplings, so interesting."
Qu Laodi wasn’t annoyed but didn’t press down on the fish balls with the spoon again.
Speaking of dumplings, Mu Yunniang, who hadn’t said much, suddenly asked Yi Meng, "Meng Niang, do you think we could sell dumplings?"
"What? Sell dumplings?"
Wang Daya was surprised, "You mean sell dumplings?"
Qu Laodi was also puzzled.
Mu Yunniang hadn’t realized that the eldest and second sisters-in-law didn’t know about this, and now that she’d mentioned it, she blushed, looking at Yi Meng in embarrassment.
Yi Meng chuckled and explained, "Our family will set up a stall to sell fish ball noodles tomorrow, like this."
Then Yi Meng answered Mu Yunniang’s question, "Third Sister-in-law, that’s a great suggestion! But then we need to consider whether to make and cook the dumplings fresh, or pre-freeze some to cook when ordered."
Wang Daya and Qu Laodi exchanged shocked glances.
The Qi Family is really going to start a business?
This is different from selling vegetables and fish. Can it work?
The two sisters-in-law had similar thoughts but didn’t voice them.
Mu Yunniang didn’t notice her sisters-in-law’s reactions and seriously thought about it, finally saying, "I think for regular fillings, we can pre-freeze them. For more precious fillings, we should make and cook them fresh for the freshest taste."
"Great!"
Yi Meng readily agreed and said to the two older sisters-in-law, "Eldest Sister-in-law, Second Sister-in-law, this might be more work for everyone, but how about we prepare some ordinary dumpling fillings today and sell them along with the stall tomorrow?"
"We’re really setting up a stall!"
Wang Daya smacked her lips, "Making dumplings and all is fine, but... but we’ve never set up a stall before, can we do it?"
"Oh, what’s the big deal? If we can sell, we sell. If not, we’ll eat it ourselves! We have a large family; it’s not like the food would go to waste."
Yi Meng winked at Wang Daya, making her burst into laughter.
The four sisters-in-law agreed to add dumplings to their stall menu for the next day.
With so many people involved, adding one more item wasn’t a big deal.
Qu Laodi suddenly exclaimed, and seeing the other three looking at her, she said quickly, "If we’re making dumplings, we need to check if we have enough flour!"
"Right, Second Sister-in-law has a point."
Yi Meng tapped her forehead with her wrist, "I was so caught up in the idea that I forgot something so important. Let’s quickly check how much flour we have, as we’ll need it for both noodles and dumplings."
Qu Laodi rushed to wash her hands and check the flour sack.
After checking, there seemed to be around ten pounds left.
"Let’s start with that! We can try tomorrow, and if it works, we can buy more. If not, we’ll just eat it at home."
Wang Daya suggested.
Mu Yunniang and Yi Meng had no objections.
Buying too much at once for home consumption is fine, but if it’s for a stall venture, it feels different.
The whole family was informed about setting up the stall to sell food the next day.
Ai Zhaodi regretted missing out on making fish balls with the sisters-in-law and immediately volunteered, "Then I’ll take charge of making dumplings! I’m not as good at mixing fillings as the fourth sister-in-law, but I’m alright at making dumplings."
"I’ll roll the skins!"
Qu Laodi raised her hand immediately.
Wang Daya then said, "I’ll knead the dough!"
Mu Yunniang looked at this one and that one, and finally said softly, "Then I’ll work with the fourth sister-in-law on the fish balls."
Seeing her daughters-in-law so enthusiastic, Mrs. Qi was pleased but still scolded a little, "In this cold weather, you shouldn’t be the ones doing the hard work. Just stay by the pot, anyone who needs to boil noodles or dumplings should, let’s leave the hands-on work to them!"
As she spoke, Mrs. Qi’s gaze swept over her six sons.
The five daughters-in-law were stunned, not expecting their mother-in-law to be so unsupportive at first.
But Yi Meng was the first to catch on, smiling and saying, "See what I mean? In this household, it’s our mother who cares for us the most! We’ll be warm by the pot for sure."
With her words, the other four daughters-in-law also understood, and they all looked gratefully at Mrs. Qi.
Mrs. Qi truly cherished her daughters-in-law, and even though the words were spoken, having them look at her like that made her feel slightly uncomfortable.
"Hmph, who said I care for you! You’re daughters-in-law of the Qi family; working is expected!"
Mrs. Qi grumbled with a hard mouth.
The five daughters-in-law glanced at each other, then nodded and covered their mouths, laughing.
Their mother-in-law had a sharp tongue but a soft heart!
The men of the Qi family dared not speak, not daring to voice a single objection.
With years of experience, they’ve long learned.
If anyone dared to oppose, they’d face not only their mother’s wrath but also their father’s and their wives’.
So, being obedient and doing as told is the wisest choice.
