Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Ambiguous, Intimate, Unrestrained

Natalie Morgan gave him a cold, emotionless glance, didn’t answer his question, and walked away.

The hospital had called and asked her to come over.

They said Yulia White was showing signs of waking up.

She hailed a cab and went to the local hospital.

On the way, she received a call from Felix Finch. "Natalie, did the doctors notify you? There’s been a major breakthrough with your mom’s condition."

"I’m on my way to the hospital now." Natalie Morgan’s voice was filled with excitement.

"I’ll be there soon, too. We can talk when we see each other."

"Okay."

A determined light shone in Natalie Morgan’s eyes—a light of anticipation, longing, and confidence for the future.

Her brother had been rescued.

’If Mom gets better, I’ll definitely divorce Theodore Grant.’

Her breathing grew a little uneven.

Her heart began to race.

Her steps were slightly rushed as she entered the hospital.

"Felix."

"This is such wonderful news."

Felix Finch had arrived a little earlier and was waiting for her, his face beaming with an excited smile.

He had been involved in this project from the very beginning.

He hadn’t expected to see results so quickly.

"I know. I was ecstatic when I got the call, but..." Natalie Morgan had her worries. "...Mom has been lying there for so long. Do you think her mind...?"

"Her mind should be fine. Don’t worry too much."

"Okay."

The two of them walked into the doctor’s office side by side.

The doctor in charge of the project gave Natalie Morgan a PowerPoint presentation on Yulia White’s recent responses.

After the presentation,

Felix Finch asked Natalie Morgan, "Why don’t we go see your mother first?"

"Yes, I can’t wait."

"Let’s go, then."

Yulia White was lying on a hospital bed in the project department.

She had a dedicated nurse, and her body was covered in patches from various medical instruments.

Before, no matter how Natalie Morgan called out to her, she never responded.

But now, it was different. When her name was called, her eyelids would twitch.

For someone who had been in a coma for years, this was a tremendous miracle.

Natalie Morgan’s eyes instantly turned red.

Felix Finch gently patted her back and comforted her, "Don’t get too emotional. Everything’s going to be okay."

"Okay."

In the lab, they weren’t allowed to stay for too long.

After they came out, Felix Finch chatted with Natalie Morgan for a while.

Being a doctor, he mostly talked about health-related matters.

"I have a former classmate who’s a specialist in gynecology. I told her about your condition, and she said there’s hope for a cure."

Felix Finch’s reasoning was simple.

’As long as Natalie Morgan gets pregnant, the antibodies in her blood will be her greatest protection.’

’After all, the Grant Family will stop at nothing to keep Elder Grant alive.’

’Even if the Grant Family shows mercy and lets her go in the end, her health is her own. She still has a long life ahead of her.’

But Natalie Morgan just shook her head. "There’s no need."

"You’re still young. There are many possibilities."

"Felix, I don’t want to get pregnant, and I especially don’t want to... have Theodore Grant’s child." As much as she had once looked forward to being pregnant, she was now equally repulsed by the idea. "...Please don’t worry about this for me."

The resistance in her voice was palpable.

It made Felix Finch a little awkward.

He didn’t press the issue and changed the subject. "I’m no longer working as the Grant family’s private doctor. After this project is over, I’ll be going back to work at the Finch Family hospital."

She said in surprise, "Really? Then what about Elder Grant’s illness...?"

"The Grant Family certainly doesn’t lack for good doctors." He put his hands in his pockets, his gaze distant and filled with a sense of helplessness and melancholy. "Theodore isn’t the Theodore I used to know. Leaving sooner is better for him, for me, and for everyone."

"From now on, you don’t have to be so guarded around me. If you need help with anything, just ask." He tilted his head to look at Natalie Morgan, a faint hint of expectation in his eyes.

Natalie Morgan didn’t look up at him.

She just gave a small smile and nodded. "Okay."

Felix Finch offered to drive Natalie Morgan home, and she agreed.

During the drive, she mostly asked about precautions to take after her mother woke up and how to help her recover her physical functions.

She even asked about whether Thomas Morgan could make a full recovery.

Felix Finch answered every question.

He was patient and gentle.

Occasionally, they would also reminisce about their school days.

While waiting at a red light, Natalie Morgan’s phone fell to the floor. She unbuckled her seatbelt and bent down to pick it up.

When she tried to buckle her seatbelt again, she struggled with it, tugging at it a few times without success.

Felix Finch saw this and quickly reached over to help her pull the seatbelt across and buckle it.

That very moment

was witnessed by a man in a car approaching from the opposite direction.

From his perspective, Felix Finch’s body was leaning completely over Natalie Morgan.

It looked ambiguous, intimate, and brazen.

He could only imagine what was happening—were they kissing? Or something else?

The man sharply turned the wheel, swerving to follow Felix Finch’s car.

Natalie Morgan didn’t have Felix Finch drop her off right at the entrance of the Grant Residence.

She had him stop at the intersection. "Felix, thank you for driving me home. I’ll have to trouble you to keep putting in effort on my mom’s project. I’m so looking forward to the day she opens her eyes and talks to me."

"Don’t worry. That day will come soon."

"Yes."

After saying goodbye to Felix Finch,

Natalie Morgan returned to the Grant Residence.

The house was quiet.

Without Theodore Grant and Wanda Lynch around, even the air felt much fresher.

However, she had barely taken off her shoes when Theodore Grant’s car pulled in.

The butler quickly fetched a pair of slippers and waited by the door.

The man said nothing, not even bothering to change his shoes. He strode over to Natalie Morgan, grabbed her by the wrist, and dragged her upstairs.

"What is wrong with you now?"

Every time things started to get a little better for her, he would treat her roughly.

It was as if he was afraid to let her have even one good day.

"Found your next prospect, have you? That’s made you a lot bolder." He gripped her wrist tightly. "Natalie Morgan, what exactly are you scheming?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"You don’t know?" he sneered, leaning down close, his gaze fixed on her trembling eyes. "Where did you go after leaving the hospital? On a date with your dear Felix, wasn’t it?"

Looking at him, Natalie Morgan felt a bone-deep wave of revulsion wash over her.

He was with Wanda Lynch every day, doing whatever he pleased.

But if she so much as met Felix Finch to talk, it was as if she’d committed a cardinal sin.

"Does a man and a woman being together automatically mean it’s a date? In that case, how should I interpret the intimate relationship between you, Mr. Grant, and Wanda Lynch?"

She glared at him.

It wasn’t jealousy or envy, but indignation on her own behalf.

He didn’t love her at all, yet he was so suspicious of her.

If this was all for the so-called dignity of the Grant Family, then he should be the one to watch his own behavior.

"Are you questioning me?" He glared at her hatefully and threw her roughly onto the bed. "Natalie Morgan, I’m not repulsed by how filthy you are. I’m already giving you enough respect. Do you really think you have the right to question me?"

She seemed to have resigned herself to her fate.

’What kind of woman he thinks I am doesn’t matter anymore.’

As he pressed down on top of her, her lips moved as she spoke coolly, "Since I’m so filthy, aren’t you afraid of catching a disease, Mr. Grant?"

"Do you dare say you haven’t done it with Felix Finch? Did Rhys Lawson sleep with you or not? Natalie Morgan, do you dare say you’ve been completely faithful to me?" The man’s eyes were red as he grabbed her clothes and ripped them forcefully. "Do you dare say it?"
