He Does Not Deserve My Devotion-Chapter 75: Fantuan Keeps Mommy Company
Since a little puppy arrived at the villa, Nina Walsh had become more active. Although she was still cold toward Aiden Sinclair, she no longer spent all her time locked away in her bedroom.
Fantuan’s legs were too short. It couldn’t get over high steps or even navigate slightly larger holes in the ground. But despite being a clumsy little thing, it had a big adventurous streak, always insisting on chasing birds and pouncing on butterflies in the yard. Several times, it got stuck in the flowerbeds, just barking WOOF WOOF WOOF.
Nina Walsh would have to go downstairs to rescue it. After this happened a few times, she simply started coming out with the silly little pup whenever it went out for some fresh air.
With all the extra activity, her appetite improved as well.
Days went by, and she seemed to be growing more carefree.
One morning, when Nina Walsh got up, she couldn’t find Fantuan anywhere, upstairs or down. She called out for him in the garden a few times, but got no response.
"Ma’am, is Fantuan missing?" Mrs. Lane asked as she came out.
Nina Walsh nodded. "I haven’t seen him all morning."
Mrs. Lane slapped her thigh and said nervously, "Oh no! There’s a hole in the wall in the northwest corner of the garden that we never fixed. Do you think he ran out through there? Ma’am, please don’t worry. I’ll take some people and go look for him."
Mrs. Lane sent all the staff into the garden to search for the dog. A short while later, someone shouted, "Found him! He’s in the small storeroom."
Nina Walsh followed the voice. Behind the villa was a small storeroom filled with old, forgotten items.
Fantuan had a faded baseball in his mouth. Behind him was a torn cardboard box, and old toys were scattered all over the floor.
Mrs. Lane stared in surprise for a moment before seeing the old objects and starting to ramble.
"These are White Sugar’s toys! I thought they were thrown out ages ago. It turns out the young master kept them all."
"Ma’am, White Sugar was a puppy the young master had when he was a boy. Just like Fantuan, he was all white and very cute."
"The young master didn’t have many toys as a child. He found White Sugar on his way from school one day and brought him home, raising him in his room like a precious treasure. But that wretched Julian stole White Sugar and... and threw him to his death. The young master cried in secret for a long, long time..."
After hearing a few sentences, Nina Walsh bent down, picked up Fantuan, and left the storeroom.
Fantuan refused to let go of the baseball, so she had no choice but to let him carry it back to the villa.
She hadn’t even reached the main hall when Aiden Sinclair’s car pulled up at the bottom of the steps.
"WOOF—"
Fantuan barked. The silly pup, who was usually too scared to even go down the steps, leaped right out of Nina Walsh’s arms. Forgetting all about his ball, he bounded straight toward Aiden Sinclair as he got out of the car.
Aiden Sinclair was impeccably dressed in a suit. Upon seeing the little puppy, his eyes crinkled, and a gentle smile broke through his typically stern expression.
He held Fantuan in his arms and stroked his head. The sunlight fell on him, casting a soft glow around him.
"Fantuan, did you go for a stroll in the garden with Mommy again?"
"WOOF WOOF WOOF—"
Fantuan turned his head and started barking at the baseball on the ground.
Aiden Sinclair’s expression faltered. He bent down and set the dog on the ground.
"Are you feeling unwell at all today?" Aiden Sinclair asked as he walked toward Nina Walsh.
"I’m fine."
Nina Walsh turned and went upstairs.
’Although their relationship was still tense, at least she wasn’t trying to leave anymore.’
"Fantuan, you’ve been taking good care of Mommy. Daddy’s going to give you a reward."
Aiden Sinclair opened the trunk, pulled a dog toy from a pile of baby supplies, and tossed it to Fantuan.
The little puppy started chewing on it happily, while Aiden Sinclair got busy moving the baby supplies he had personally selected into the nursery.
......
At dinner, Nina Walsh had only a little soup, but just a few minutes later, she threw it all up.
Aiden Sinclair grew anxious. "I thought your morning sickness was over. Why are you still throwing up?"
Nina Walsh’s face was pale from vomiting. She raised a hand to push him away. "I have no appetite. I want to lie down."
Aiden Sinclair didn’t press the issue and carried her upstairs.
Later that night, Nina Walsh started throwing up again. She hadn’t eaten anything, and after retching twice, she only brought up bile.
Aiden Sinclair held her, gently rubbing her back with one hand while reaching for the phone on the nightstand with the other. "I’m calling the doctor."
Dizzy and weak from vomiting, Nina Walsh leaned limply against Aiden Sinclair.
"I want to eat spicy crayfish."
Nina Walsh whispered, her stubbornness finally giving way to her craving. She kept her eyes closed, refusing to look at him, her expression clearly uncomfortable.
Aiden Sinclair put down his phone, the hint of a smile on his lips. "We don’t have any crayfish here, but I’ll go out and buy some right now."
The kitchen was stocked with all sorts of healthy ingredients—plenty of seafood, fish, and shrimp—but not a single crayfish.
’Even though he knew they weren’t particularly healthy, this was the first time Nina Walsh had ever asked him for anything.’
’Aiden Sinclair was determined to grant her wish. He would just make sure she ate them in moderation.’
"You lie down and rest so you don’t catch a chill. I’ll be back soon." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Aiden Sinclair hopped out of bed, changed his clothes, and ran downstairs. A moment later, the sound of a car engine started up below.
......
Aiden Sinclair drove to a nearby street and, after some effort, finally found a late-night food stall that was still open. The stall had some frozen crayfish.
When it came time to pay, he realized he had left in such a hurry that he’d forgotten his phone. Luckily, he had some spare change in the car, so he was able to pay and rush back without any delay.
"Nina, I’m back with them!"
Aiden Sinclair ran upstairs excitedly, waving the plastic bag in his hand as if he’d accomplished something extraordinary.
"You can’t eat too many of the crayfish, so I bought some other things too."
Aiden Sinclair enthusiastically peeled a crayfish tail and held it to her lips.
The adoration in his phoenix-like eyes was so intense it was almost tangible. As if bewitched, Nina Walsh nodded and opened her mouth to eat the morsel of meat he offered.
"I’ll do as you say."
Her docile manner tugged at Aiden Sinclair’s heartstrings, and he couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Darling, you’re being so good."
Nina Walsh kept her head down, focusing on her food and avoiding his gaze. Aiden Sinclair assumed she was just being shy.
This time, Nina Walsh didn’t get sick again. She ate until she was mostly full, walked around the room a few times, then brushed her teeth and washed up before returning to bed, where she slept soundly until morning.
In the morning, Aiden Sinclair gazed at the woman snuggled in his arms, his entire being filled with the blissful feeling of having recovered something precious he had lost.
He joyfully kissed her eyelids. "The doctor is coming for a prenatal check-up today. I have to stop by the office, but I’ll be back later to see our baby with you."
Nina Walsh nuzzled her cheek against him and murmured lazily.
"Make it later... I want... to sleep..."
Aiden Sinclair stroked her hair. "Alright. Just have Mrs. Lane call me when you wake up."
After holding her and lingering in bed for a little longer, Aiden Sinclair got up and left for work.
Half an hour later, Aiden Sinclair was out the door.
Nina Walsh opened her eyes. She got out of bed, threw on a coat, and, while the staff were busy in the kitchen, quietly slipped out of the villa. She made her way to the northwest corner of the back garden.
"Fantuan..."
Nina Walsh called out in a low voice.
Just then, Fantuan bounded out of a bush. At some point, a collar had appeared around his neck, and hanging from it was a tiny box.
Inside the box was a bow-shaped hair clip and a single red capsule.
